Aquaman:

That movie was flat out amazing. I like everything about it. The action scenes were off the charts. The build up scenes with music were also done well not corny imo. The story was good as well. 10/10

Venom:

Average movie. I think it left a lot on the table but Harsy was solid and the overall movie was ok. 6.5/10 .

"A Quiet Place" (yeah..I'm late to the party). A solid 8.5/10. The level of detail they put into how you'd need to live/operate without making noise was astonishing.

"Bird Box" 5.5/10. I had high hopes, but it just floundered for me.

Venom - I loved this movie way more than I was expecting. I'm honestly getting pretty burnt out on all these comic book/super hero movies, but, this one felt different for me. I really enjoyed it.

Recent movies like Venom and Deadpool or even older more recognizable titles like Tim Burton's Batman or Superman III have/had satirical based plots and dialogue. Could that be one of the reasons why you find a movie like Venom more refreshing as opposed to more drama-driven comic book movie adaptations?

Huge fan of the series. This was a choose your own adventure/interactive movie length episode. Worth the watch.

You mean because they don't take themselves too seriously? That's why Spiderman was always my favorite superhero, and why I hated Toby Maguire in the role.

Well, the character was created from the perspective of a teenager gaining super powers and how he would deal with them in the greater world. Ergo, a superhero starting his career fighting the good fight like a teenager would. It bears to reason the character's personality would not change much as he entered adulthood.

There are TONS of characters, each illustrated with their own individual personalities. Some characters, if not most, would not approach their everyday activities--sometimes dealing with life-and-death situations--the same way Peter Parker does. They would be internally and externally serious more often--just like most of us folks existing in the real world.

Personally, I did not dislike Maguire acting. I think Sam Raimi (I think it was Raimi) pictured his idea of Parker and thought Maguire best fit the character. What I did not like is that Raimi's idea of Parker (or Mary Jane for that matter) dd not match the character in his titles in my opinion--sort of like how Tim Burton perceived Bruce Wayne (and Batman). So I did not necessary get mad at Maguire for acting more like himself than how the character would act and behave.

Holland is the best match of actor-to-character but I did enjoy Garfield's acting as Parker much better than Maguire. I think he would have endeared himself more with fans of the character IF The Amazing Spider-Man 2 how not been such a disappointing sequel.

I just fell in love with Spidey's sarcasm (imagine that) and while Peter Parker was a bookworm, I think Toby was too nerdy. The newest kid has the sarcasm down pat, but he seems a little too neurotic as Peter, though I can't blame him for the writing.

If there was a Jason Bateman type at the right age, that would be my ideal actor for the role.

I know right? I thought it would be stupid, and it actually was good and had it’s own anti-super hero movie style. That actor did an awesome job doing that role too. He came up with a lot of those goofy things he does, like the fish tank scene and all that stuff.

Tom Hardy is good solid all-around actor. And underrated in my opinion. Venom was his second big venture into the genre (that I can recall). Hardy played Bane in The Dark Knight.

I've never really thought of that but you may be on to something. I LOVED both Deadpool movies.

And it's not that I hate all of them. I feel like there have been some really good comic book movie adaptations. I absolutely loved Christopher Nolan's Batman movies (I am a Batman homer though, as you may have noticed by my avatar) and I enjoyed some of the Iron Man's and etc. etc. Could never really get into Captain America though.

Yeah, pretty similar movie types, but not very believable or executed that well. A Quiet Place was vastly superior though

Took my daughter to see Mary Poppins Returns. Fun movie, Emily Blunt was great in it, as was Manuel Lin-Miranda ... but the songs weren't as memorable as the original. 8/10 ? Great movie though overall.

Mission Impossible Fallout, was just great, story had lots of twists and just a fun fast paced action movie. 9.5/10

Aquaman - 8/10. I enjoyed this one quite a bit and I can safely say that for me it was the best done film of the DCEU. I thought the effects were excellent throughout, especially the underwater features and the depictions and conversations underwater. I thought pacing was very good and I didn't find any moments were I felt the film lagged. While it might have been a bit longer than it needed to be, it moved along quickly throughout. I thought all of the actors involved did a good job, with Dolph Lundgren being surprisingly good.

If you're into the superhero genre, you'll enjoy yourself with this one. James Wan managed to not only craft an amazing underwater world, but he and Mamoa have managed to make what has often been labeled as a lame character, very cool.
