I don’t really care if Richard stays or goes

So you bring up Nick Saban? I mean, I’m surprised you didn’t mention belichick, who is the other biggest anamoly of all time.

And yes, I know good coaches get fired. I also know that like, 90% of these hot coordinators that get an HC job flame out within a few years.

But mostly, I’m not impressed by the “passion” that people slobber over like its actual substance.

I get what your saying and I’m not arguing, just debating. Honestly, just debating the ‘just got fired’ comment. Your right ab hot Coordinators flaming out.. I’m not suggesting Richard be our HC, but I definitely wouldn’t mind him taking over the DC position when Marenilli hangs it up (which seems likely sooner rather than later)

I’m in the minority on this site, I like Garrett and believe it’s telling that his players seem to never quit. Garrett didn’t have much experience when he took over HC duties, yet he seems to get better every year. His record speaks for itself and continuity means more to a football team than most will admit, but talking ab Garrett is reserved for another thread.

As far as Richard, he’s proven to be a good, if not very good defensive understudy. And his passion shouldn’t be understated, exp when we’re talking ab Defense. If there’s one thing this team seemingly has been lacking for a few years, is the ‘dog’ like attitude. Call it passion, call it unbending confidence, call it what you want.. but it’s absolutely necessary, exp on defense. Richard has that attitude, which is the main reason I was excited ab him coming to Dallas in the first place. Not speaking for everyone here, but I believe there’s many that feel the same. The last thing I want is a talented lack-luster Defense. With Richard, you don’t have to worry ab this.

Last year the defense was 25th in DVOA. This year it’s 9th. Points per game is also down. Points per drive also down.

To say the defense is no different than 2017 is a stretch.

steve wilkes would be my next D coord in 2019 if God forbid we cant hang onto Richard....MAYBE TODD BOWLES,the familiarity thing with him.
In house we have Ben bloom. He's done a very good job with Waylon and love. His career is trending upward.

I can’t let this pass.

Garrett is in his 9th year so using the inexperienced excuse is a real reach. And it’s a stretch to say he gets better each year. His career is basically a roller coaster.

Players respecting and playing for you is great but here have been a lot of coaches who weren’t very good but players loved them. It can’t be the biggest factor in whether a coach is good or not.

Lots of people slobbering over a guy that isn’t even the DC of a defense that was about the same as last year. Why? Because he has “passion” I guess. I know he’ll get interviews but what he has shown besides “passion” that make people think he’ll be a good HC? “Passion” lasts about a week so hopefully he has more to offer.
You a part of the practices?

Film room?

position technique coaching?

'Operation Richard Isn't really that good' right on cue.

He's coaching his last game in Dallas. After we get molested by the Seahawks he'll get his head coaching opportunity. I don't know if he'll be a good head coach but I'd be willing to give him a shot. He'd be head coach of the Dallas Cowboys in 2019 if I had my way.

Sadly, the white owners continue to make a farce of the Rooney rule. I’m afraid mst of the interest in Richard is partly due diligence and partly getting the minority interview out of the way. As a defensive guy, it’s unlikely that the teams with young QBs who need development are going to go with him. Most are more likely looking for an offensive guy who will tailor the offense to their QB investment.

Jerry will make it more attractive for Richard to hang around and build an even greater resume as asst. head coach so he will have his choice of jobs rather than going to a dumpster fire.

He’s not the DC. And have you seen the defensive numbers compared to the last two years? Very similar.
The numbers might be similar. But not the level of play. D-line, lb's, and d-backs playing considerably better.

Yep they took out the anointing oils real fast with Kris....some here want him asap to become HC now!
Remember Mike Singletary....lots of passion lots of screaming...but where did that get the Niners?

Why on earth would you make a Singletary comparison? Mike had 5 years as an LB coach after being out of the game for 10+ years. Richard worked his way up as a grad assistant, assistant DB coach, position coach, and defensive coordinator. Kris Richard worked for this opportunity. Singletary largely benefitted from his HOF career. He was clearly thrust into his role too early.

I do not understand the crowning of Richards.

From 2017 to 2018, we went from 8th in yards to 7th, and 14th in points to 6th. Marinelli spent his 5th year developing the defense in the offseason. LVE got drafted. Smith got better. Gregory turned his life around, at least for a year. Chido and Lewis developed.

In that same time frame, Richards got fired and found a new job at Dallas, where he took over lots of playcalling and became to the secondary what Marinelli is to the DLine. He moved Jones to CB and Jones exploded. In general I think all the DBs have improved.

So when I look at these two paragraphs of things that happened and improved this team totally without Richards, and things that Richards did or was a part of, I don't see someone I'd call elite.

I see a damn fine assistant defensive coordinator, a great game manager since he got Marinelli's blessing to call plays, a fine developer of secondary talent. I see lots of good things to be sure.

But the track record to confirm greatness? It isn't there, not for me. Call him a great secondary coach if you want, there is a track record for that (Legion of Boom), but not as a DC or HC, not yet.

There also isn't confirmation that he's the reason we improved. Too many good things happened for this defense to confirm it was Richards who moved the needle most. In my opinion you'd need to be in the locker room to even get a feel for it.

Jury's still out for me but I do love what I see.

Good, fair post.
