Why Jerry is trying to sign Dak now

Or, it's completely logical to realise that there are lots of teams who need a QB, and Dak would be someone they'd want. For example, he's been brilliant against our NFC East rivals overall. I can think of a lot of teams that would like to have a QB who can typically beat his division rivals.

Winning your division automatically gets you in the playoffs, if you can go 5-1 every year that's a big step towards winning the division, certainly gives you the tiebreaker over 2 of the teams...

Your keying in on that one piece of his post, which I admit is a big stretch, and ignoring his whole point.

I think the OP is pretty spot on, JJ wants a deal now because JJ wants Dak and the open market will be very kind to him because there's never enough QBs to go around and he looks good and upward right now.

He's not missing anything. At this point, the OP has basically turned into a Dak troll.

If the OP wants to start a solid discussion throwing in that Brady comment undermines his point. But as noted, he's just trolling at this point.

Yet there are still mindless morons that call him Quincy Carter. Carter and Brady were always being compared.....
I'm not sure which side of the fence you're on. You say people are morons for calling him Quincy Carter, but then you say Carter and Brady were always being compared.
Are you saying he shouldn't be compared to Brady, or are you saying he shouldn't even be compared to Quincy Carter?......or are you saying Carter and Brady both suck and they shouldn't be compared to Dak?

In all seriousness, what are "lots of teams"? The Dolphins, Jags, maybe Denver and maybe the Giants? Who else?

It's pretty clear now that Dallas grossly over rated the weapons around Dak going into this season. Besides Zeke, who was there? Then Austin gets hurt. Then the offensive line starts to have issues. Tell me what QB thrives under these conditions? How do you think Big (I can't beat the Oakland Raiders) Ben would do? I think he'd throw about 65 picks because that's what he does under pressure.

Now that Cooper's here things are slowly improving. Gallup seems to be improving and Jarwin is starting to find openings in the middle. Beasley is starting to be targeted more. Not because he's playing better, but the entire team is. It's a work in progress from where this team began to where they are now, and the offense is only getting better from here. At least that's my opinion. They haven't peaked. Four touchdown passes and 387 yards can't be ignored. And he missed Cooper twice deep or he'd be closing in on 500.

I'd pump the brakes on teams backing up a brinks truck for Dak, but I'm starting to see some flashes of '16 when he was calmly distributing the ball to open WRs. Keep in mind our O-Line played much better in '16.

See this proves the point..

So you're telling me that in 2016 Beasley and Witten where beasts but in 2017 they just forgot how to play the game?

The guy throwing them the ball matters..

Now Jarwin and Gallup as seen as "good options" but the only thing that changed is that Dak is finally throwing them the ball. They didn't suddenly develop skills they didn't have..

As far as the Offensive line goes, people literally expect Dak to have 5 minutes back there.. it's maddening. Running QBs are usually the ones who lead the league in sacks , as was the case this year, plus you add the fact that Dak is extremely conservative and holds the ball too long and I don't know what the Oline can do to avoid sacks. With Dak, you're pretty much guaranteed to be in the top 5 sacks allowed because of the way he plays the game no matter how many studs you have there.

Having said all of that, I keep hearing people say that Dak has shown flashes but that's not a good thing. Consistency is everything in life.
"Dak has played lights out these last 8 games"
Well, Fitzpatrick has stretches were he looks like a hall of famer...but , the clock hits 12 and he's back to being a JAG. Flacco had that stretch in the playoffs where he looked like he had arrived... now he's on the bench.

Consistency is everything. That's what separates good QBs from JAGS. Even Blake Bottles has had 400 yard 100 QBR games in his career...

...............without giving up a ton of draft capitol. I think KC traded 3 first round picks to move up for Mahomes.

Only 2 first round picks. Or just one extra first round pick because they traded their 2017 first round pick to get a 2017 first round pick.

Exactly, and it'd be a big plus for Dak on the open market.

I think that he was being sarcastic about the Carter and Brady bit.

Of course it's somewhat a guessing game - if Dak continues to get better, especially substantially better, signing him to a long term deal for even $30 million would certainly be cheaper than what even an average quarterback will get in 3-4 years, as the going rate for a starting qb goes up every year. On the other hand, if you do the same deal and he doesn't get better or heaven forbid gets worse, you're stuck with a high contract that prevents you from getting another good one.

Considering Jerry made his money by taking risks in the oilfield, I'm betting he will take the risk on Dak...

Yes, and probably others like the Bengals as well.

Even if you throw the Bengals in there we have to consider the draft order for 2019. The first 4 picks don't need a QB. We don't know what Tampa will do. You have the Giants and Jags after that. I think they'd probably draft a rookie over breaking the bank on Dak. Then you have the Lions and Buffalo. Then Denver and Cincinnati. I don't know how deep the draft will be for QBs, but I know teams looking to pay Dak 25+ Mil a year is very limited. Maybe non existent.

We need to extend Dak this offseason. He’s earned it.

Dak has completed 66.1% of his passes over his first 3 seasons, best in NFL history. He is clutch, a winner, a leader, and has high character.
