How about we wait to see his post season performance before we starting talking about throwing around top dollar contracts for Dak?

This is a thread about what Jerry is doing and why. Jerry hasn't waited for the offseason to talk about this, we aren't waiting until then to talk about him talking about Dak lol

If Prescott wins 1 playoff game then his agent can start negotiations @ $105 mill for 5 years plus inflation and salary cap increase since 2013 when we signed our last great QB, Antonio Romero Romo. Clearly if JJ waits there is a risk of Dak winning more than 1 playoff game and then the price goes up. Get 'er done this week JJ because the risk increases exponentially after Saturday night

Jerry also never said that a signing was imminent and yet people are talking like it is.

it seems the front office knows Dak will be a hot commodity given his rapid development.

Since the Amari cooper trade Dak has a higher passer rating in his last 8 games than Drew Brees. His stats Projected over a 16 game season would have been 28 TDs 6INTs 110 passer rating

They know if they don’t sign him this offseason, far too many teams will back up the brinks truck for a 26 year old with a career passer rating higher than Tom Brady.

Of course part of this is that Brees went through a 3 game rough patch toward the end of the season, but Dak has definitely picked up his game in the second half of the season.

Jerry is tryin to get him at a bargain again. SMART MOVE but I doubt Dak and his agent will bite. If I am Dallas, I franchise tag him in the offseason. Make him prove it. You can always negotiate a longterm deal later. I would sign DLAW longterm, and tag Dak.

So let me get this straight...those of you that again don't think he's worthy of 25M. Give me a name of a QB that in 2 of the past 3 years has won his division and the year he didn't win it missed the playoffs by 1 game with his All pro RB missing 6 games. Is seemingly clutch in the 4th quarter and still improving. For 3 years the Cowboys have paid him a rookie salary and you think that type of production will not be rewarded. Do you really think there's some Patrick Mahomes type available in every Draft? Some of you really need to stop drinking...Dak will get his money and I'd rather have him here with Zeke for a few more years.
O.k. ,,,I'll attempt in the endeavor of helping you
"Get it straight" my fellow forum fan,,, "for it was the best of times,it was the worst of times" ,,,it's hard to argue against not shoveling him the cash after witnessing that 4&15 game winning t.d. to Beasley last week ( or any of the double fistful of on the money& in the x-ring targets HE HAS HIT,this season, The Beasley t.d. being easily the most recent to recall,,,yet,,,it's the easiest thing in the WIDE WIDE WORLD of SPORTS in screaming "NO WAY" to even half of that 25 million figure I recall you mentioning, when ,the consistently inconsistent is continually on display,,, like the myriad of plain ol' whistledick blown screen/dump pass plays due to Q.B. error, the wheelhouse vapor lock of footballish acuity while under pressure, whether actual or perceived equalling excessive SACKAGE/FUMBLEDOM,,,the unacceptable easy T.D. scores to open receivers DUE solely to a piss poor pass being left out on the field,,,and,,,NO, I AIN'T GONNA STOP DRINKING!

*Hope this helped you out some in the quandary of the straightening processes, buddy:thumbup:

Right now 23-25 is where I’d be at. If you would’ve asked me 2 weeks ago I would’ve said 18-21, but I saw somethings on Sunday that looked different, and things I was waiting for. I’m hoping he carries that over to Saturday

If I'm Dak's agent my starting point is one Antonio Romero Romo contract signed 5 years ago plus inflation and yearly increase in salary cap since 2013. IF DAK WINS 1 PLAYOFF GAME. Yep that's in the 22-25 mill range. Watch out if he wins more than 1 though. If I'm JJ I'm getting it done after Saturdays first playoff win

There are a lot of bad teams out there that would love to have Dallas's issues and are desperate to have a QB like Dak no matter how mediocre people think he is. At this time, Dallas has no better replacement so it only makes sense to keep him.

I'm not sure which side of the fence you're on. You say people are morons for calling him Quincy Carter, but then you say Carter and Brady were always being compared.
Are you saying he shouldn't be compared to Brady, or are you saying he shouldn't even be compared to Quincy Carter?......or are you saying Carter and Brady both suck and they shouldn't be compared to Dak?

Wow...this really confused the heck out of you. Seemed pretty simple. No one ever compared Carter to Brady. Dak's QBR IS being compared to Brady's. So to compare Carter to Dak is moronic.

tag Dak,then see how the 2019 season starts out...if he looks good, reboot longterm contract talks,if not, let him play it out and hit the open market.

You specifically said Carter and Brady were always being compared, and you can't deny that people write a lot of really stupid things on this board. Without knowing you, how would I determine what you actually believe, without , :muttley:, or even :omg:?

signing him earlier, rather than later, allows those in charge of the financial decision making to have a better feel of how to treat other up and coming negotiations. it helps with figuring our signing bonuses (guaranteed money), how to structure the bonuses to avoid cap troubles in the future and come to the reality of which players will not be resignable. it makes perfect sense. but as with all financial negotiations, it comes down to the money. dak recently hired a new agent known for representing qb's. it will be like zack. quiet, but tense.

Sure, in theory.

But let's say you sign him early to a fairly sizable offer that carries large guaranteed money and Dak just continues to bump along as a mid-level QB. Then you have hamstrung yourself to a mediocre QB making big time money.

People are ignoring the reality that there is a downside here. Dak very well may end up being a true, elite, franchise QB. And maybe signing him now will end up being a real steal. But IMO, I think I'd let him play 2019 under his existing deal, make him put two good seasons back to back and then sign him long term or franchise tag him.

the monicker "dak continues to bump along as a mid-level qb" is your assessment of the man, not mine. and if the level of his play increases, every other team will take notice. in which case his agent will just raise the bar. at some point tell him to just wait until free agency. then we'll have to franchise tag him at a top five salary, fully guaranteed. and if we franchise him a second time, he gets a 20% raise, again fully guaranteed.
