Rapoport: Zeke wants a new contract this offseason

Gee. I don't know.

Let's see. Two guys with talent. Top 5 in the draft talent. And a guy who can't throw an out route.

Decisions, decisions.

I'll get back to you.
LOL!

Before last week, it was “Dak can’t throw deep” and “Dak can’t attack the middle of the field.”

Then he crapped on your face, so now he supposedly “can’t throw an out route.”
:lmao2:

if push come to shove between keeping DLAW OR ZEKE, The choice will be to keep DLaw. He's come so far over the past 2 years. The dude has become an elite edge rusher, and a vastly underrated run stuffer. Elites dudes off the edge don't grow on trees. We search for so long to find one,and now that we have, NO WAY IN HADES DO WE LET HIM TEST THE MARKET...NOT HAPPENING.A running back void can be filled,if anything,by committee.

As a backup? Why not? I know he lacks burst and is a bit slow to the hole, but that's what you get as a backup. He's tough and plays very hard. Bill Bates type.
I understand. We just see it differently, I suppose.

Smith lacks vision and run instincts IMO. Despite his size, he doesn’t break many tackles and doesn’t punish defenders... all while lacking explosion and any type of suddenness. There are many backup RB’s who are better than him, I think.

That’s just my opinion though.

that said...Zeke aint leaving,so its a moot point. Stevie and Will McClay will find a way. The franchise tag is our friend.

Use him up. No extension, now or ever. Nothing against Zeke. He’s performed wonderfully. But it’s a mistake to give a second contract to a running back.
So then why did we draft him? Why waste the 4th overall pick on him? I know Jalen Ramsey gets a second and maybe third contract. There is no such thing as salary cap he’ll anymore. The cap is going to be over 190 million. It has gone up over 10 million per year since 2013. Did you see what Fox paid for TNF? Wait till the Sunday packages come for renewal. The rumor is Amazon is going to knock the NFL’s socks of with a grandfather offer for some package. That is a whole nother discussion.

Prediction - Zeke is a holdout next season which may lead to a trade. This could be his last game as a Cowboy.
Good for us long term....the trade.

The last game bit.... Not going there.... Because of... The implication

You think we can get someone better as a backup? Not a starter, a backup.

I agree w/ what you're saying about him. He lacks suddenness. However, he runs tough and the one thing I disagree w/ you about is that he does punish defenders.

He appears to be a team guy, doesn't get hurt, knows the plays, and as long as we don't have to pay him a ton, he appears to be an adequate backup. I'm not talking about starting quality. There's not more than a handful of teams in the NFL who have 2 starting quality RB's.

Is there any other profession where outsiders are mad about young people getting pay raises?

Which young person? There are like 6 of them that are all due for new contracts and want a "Pay Raises". Which ones get it and which ones don't if the team pays them early?

depends what your trading him for in return.A trade doesn't always equate equal or greater value in return.

Paying is not a problem. We can sign all our guys, the question is do we want to overpay for Dak. I’m fine with pting Lawrence and Zeke.. need to see more of Jones. We don’t to worry about LVE for 5 years, 2-3 for Jaylon. Oline is paid up.

I actually LOVE the violence the Rod Smith brings when he runs. He is high energy and quick in the hole. He is decisive..and hits it hard. Hard runner to bring down and impossible to arm tackle. I think short term we wouldn't be losing anything if Zeke held out in 2019,long term, we dunno.

He'll hold out two games, Gregory will get in Jerry's face and throw his helmet through a wall after an 0 and 2 start. Jerry will sign Zeke and we go on and win the superbowl. Only the second team with an 0 and 2 start to do it. Can you guess the first?

actually..I think we can get Dak on the Franchise tag this year and save some money.Let him prove it.MONEY IS A PROBLEM.I DISAGREE. Yes we have much more cap space than we normally do, but "paying is not a problem.?" We have many guys up for new deals etc. NO WAY CAN WE KEEP THEM ALL. We will lose someone we want.

No way.

Frankly I am not sure we should resign him at all given the wear and tear on TBs.

As good as he is it arguably was a waste of resources to draft him #4 overall. Many of us maintained that all along (and continue to do so). No need to compound our mistake and throw good money after bad money by giving him a second contract.
