Wishful thinking. The day Jerry steps down would be the day he says farewell to his life.

Lets get this straight, Jerry Jones said repeatedly he is Owner, President and GM of the Cowboys. Anyone who thinks otherwise is drinking some poisoned KoolAid.

Its a good story, but that is it... Jerry headstone will say Owner, President and GM of the Dallas Cowboys.

Like I said in another thread. One moment this season, 3-5, opinions were at an all time low on Garrett, and people were thinking that this was his last year. Now a playoff win, and people think that Garrett is the mad scientist that build this team and ready to promote him to GM. :) We need a Manic Depressive/Bi Polar Zone

I'll preface this by saying to take it with a grain of salt. Give it as much or as little value as you see fit.

A friend of mine talks with someone with connections to the Cowboys organization, out of respect for privacy and confidentiality, I can't and won't give any names, so if you think I'm full of it, well, it won't be the first time.

But I'm told that there's talk that Jerry might make an unprecented move to keep this train going. It's been talked about the possibility of promoting Jason Garrett to the GM role and naming Kris Richard the team's head coach. It would quiet any talk of why Jones won't hire a GM and allow the team to keep a coach that the entire organization loves. Garrett would work with Will McClay on the draft and get a raise and everybody wins.

They love Richard but also love what Garrett has brought in terms of the culture of the organization and have discussed how to maintain all of that.

Again, it's second hand rumor from a friend of a friend, so take it for what it's worth. Something or nothing might come of it, but I felt it was an exciting possibility when it was shared with me so I wanted to pass it on.

And here I thought @Risen Star was the likes collector!!! ;)

Hearing this from a few different places too.

I was talking to a friend here and thought it would make sense if it was a contractual clause given as part of Richard's offer to stay. Something like a huge raise and a guarantee to be HC within 3 years with Garrett taking an executive position.

It's not the worst idea I've seen.

If Richard doesn't take the Dolphins job, he will be an NFL or college HC within 2 years. I know of two big-time college programs that have real interest in him, one being his alma mater.

It makes sense. JG won’t ever lose the HC position. Unless he gets promoted to GM or some executive position. Which I can see happen. Which makes room for Kris. I’d rather have that to be honest.

Maybe, but I'd have to hear him say he meant that JG isn't good at designing plays, or deciding which ones fit his personnel. I find it hard to believe someone who started as a backup QB, became an OC, then a HC (okay, we all know HC position was a gift from JJ) isn't capable of being an "X's and O's" guy.
Wait!! You didn't address the jumbo Snickers and we're not moving forward until you do.

Its a good story, but that is it... Jerry headstone will say STILL Owner, President and GM of the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys aren't just a football team anymore. They have substantial real estate holdings (the stadium and the Star), merchandising, handling concessions and ticketing, among other things. The traditional management structure of a professional football team probably doesn't really fit them anymore. When Stephen takes over, he's probably going to be the CEO not the GM and there may be more than one person filling the traditional GM role.

Agree, no football guy should be GM of the Cowboys business machine anymore than a businessman should be running football operations

IMO, there needs to be a title created like say "GM of football operations" and only the best and brightest who have devoted themselves to the intricacies of the game and how to build and sustain a winning team should be considered

Dammmmmmmm, I called this one too!!!!

Not word for word, but I did think JG would get promoted and a new HC would take over.

And I would love this move. As long as Jason promised to never draft another Gavin Escobar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This may have been a backup plan in case Dallas faltered or went one-and-done, maybe.........

I don't see him getting moved now, especially if Dallas advances past this weekend.

That would be phenomenal! I'd believe it if/when I see it. I like Jerry but I do think Garrett would be a great GM and Richard would be an EXCELLENT head coach for us

Stash that's one rumor I hope comes true. I'd love to see K. Richard stay with the Cowboys as HC!

Garrett's strength, far and away, is as a motivator and player-culture cultivator. I don't think any positions above HC could take advantage of that strength. I expect he could be a serviceable GM, but if a change is happening there are others (maybe even McClay) who might be more likely to thrive in that position.
