I think someone like Shamar Stephen or roll the dice on a Jordan Phillips is more likely than Snacks Harrison.

I can only comment on Phillips in Miami but it never clicked on for him there. One game he would be the unstoppable force inside and the next 4 games he played like he was hungover. The physical talent is there. He's athletic for a big dude. Not some fat run plugger that runs a 40 in 3 days.
And when he was off, he wouldn't control his gap assignments in the run game. Even back when Suh was there the middle was open for business when Phillips wasn't trying hard enough.

The way he left too publicly in Miami probably didn't impress a lot of GMs either. Gase was a ******, but Phillips didn't handle stuff any better.

Lions got him for a 5th round pick. Why do we let these opportunities slip by? Could you imagine the difference he would have made on Sunday?

He was at our 1st playoff game supporting Woods...a guy who seems to be a pretty popular player around the league. I need to know why we keep passing on big stout run defenders up front. Marinelli's stubbornness is sickening.

We were the #1 rush defense this season in ypc allowed. It was the Rams scheme that beat us, not the players we were trotting out.

Rod gets too little credit and a ton of blame. Defense does well? Richard. Defense does poorly? Blame Rod. It's a weird fan obsession

We need Grady Jarrett or Snacks Harrison this off season

Snack current contract ..... it originated with Giants but was part of the trade to Lions

3/9/2016: Signed a five-year, $46.25 million contract. The deal contains $24 million guaranteed, including an $8 million signing bonus. 2018: $7.75 million, 2019: $6.75 million, 2020: $9 million, 2021: Free Agent

I wanted to get him. But for some reason, RM does not like big bodied, run stuffing DT's.

Rod wanted 340 pound Vita Vea, this assertion is simply not true anymore.

Also one of our biggest free agent signings as of recent was run stuffer Cedric Thornton

Marinelli needs to be told what he's getting at this point, not asked. His way has gotten us Nick Hayden, Henry Melton, Stephen Paea, Joey Ivie and a bunch of disappointment. He tries to sacrifice run defenders for "Rushmen", and ends up with neither.

The team needs to draft and invest in this area and not ask Marinelli what he thinks about it. Tell him you're coach the players he has, but no more seats at the table on draft day or free agency meetings. Defensive tackle needs to be more than an afterthought.

When the giants started calling around offering the trade, do you really think Dallas was one of they teams called? What are the chances they would have made the trade to a division rival for a 5th? Dallas got the same exact production from Woods that they would have from Harrison for about 1/40th of the price!

The reason we don't sign these guys or put them on our draft board is b/c they do not fit what Marinelli wants at DT. One reason I hope Kris Richard is our DC next year is to rectify this absurdity. We need big DTs against zone blocking OL's like the Rams.

Woods is 320, Collins 312, exactly how big do they have to be. There would have been the same exact results in that game with Harrison except he would have been on the sideline sucking wind halfway through the 3rd quater!

Its just a fact. I'm sorry you are hearing this for the first time. We take the 340-350 lb DTs off our draft boards. Marinelli doesn't do 1-technique DTs. Its common knowledge.

Do you really think 20# would have made a difference. The rams had a whole week with nothing to do but review film of there possible opponents.

Ever consider that one of the reasons Marinelli is liked so much by Jerry is because they have the same philosophy. Jerry never felt he got his bang for the buck from the Maryland pick. Name a DT since that was picked before the 3rd round because I cant remember one. Even when they were in the 34 he wouldn't subscribe to using the 340# space eating wind suckers. Woods played the 1t position as well as anyone will this season, adding 20# isn't going to change this one game enigma. When Marinelli leaves the next DC will have the same philosophy or will evolve to it! Jerry ain't putting money into a position that is a glorified block absorber!

I made a general comment, not just about snacks.

You have absolutely no idea what the next DC will do.

Yeah man. Scooby snacks was the answer to the Lions woes for sure so it should follow suit that he could have changed our woes in the inside of the line . How about a change in philosophy about the need for a DT1 first then follow that up in the draft.

If the line was tipping what they were going to do like many believe he would not have made too much of difference.

He's going to do whatever the resources Jerry allows him to do. There is a history of avoiding using resources on the position going back to the Maryland pick. When they did put resources into DTs it was undersized 3t Glover types. At its peak Seattle's line was anchored by 315# Mebane. Instead of paying him they let him walk and draft the 315# Jarran Reed. Dont expect much of a change in philosophy just because of Richard. He comes from the same exact philosophy that Marinelli espouses! Which just happens to be the same philosophy that Jerry holds!
