Not only is his anyalysis and play recognition great, but I love that he’s not afraid to actually be excited and actually enjoy the game. He sounds like a kid watching the games at times with his excitement and it’s refreshing compared to some of the older stuffy guys that call the game like it’s golf
His enthusiasm is just him being himself, one of his characteristics that CBS saw in him when he was hired. The network should be applauded for their insight in him.

By the time Sunday's AFC title game ended, retired quarterback Tony Romo, formerly of the Dallas Cowboys, was drawing high praise for his game commentary.

I thought he did an awesome job as well. Not only with his obvious insight into playcalls, tendencies, and what we might expect, but just his infectious excitement, enthusiasm, and passion for the game. It was clear he was having fun, and it spread to partner Jim Nantes, as well as the viewing audience.

It's clear what CBS brass saw in immediately hiring him for the job. Great job Tony!

I hope to one day see this anticipation of Romo being a coach comes true. No, I do not anticipate kicking the bucket anytime soon (knock on wood). And no, I do not see Romo returning to Dallas in any capacity if coaching does ever take hold of his ambitions. Then again, Romo is almost a decade and a half younger than me so... :muttley:

Naturally. A true baller in both careers. No surprise here at all

Yep. He's so good it kinda reminds me of how seamlessly Strahan transitioned from the field to tv and blew up the ratings with his down to earth personality as well.

" With three time outs, they'll call one right at one minute left."

Boom. Belichick did.

I didn't catch much of any game Romo called except the Cowboy games, but he made what I saw of them interesting. That's something hard to do given I only enjoy watching the Cowboys.

Yah if you missed last nights game he was amazing. On the last three Patriot drives he literally called out all their plays. It was actually shocking. Never seen anything like it. He has called plays out before but last night was like he was wired into Brady’s headset.

I watched the last 2 drives of regulation. I was amazed by his knowledge. He's gonna make a great coach someday.

Romo seems so good because we're getting the play-call after the mandatory network 10 second delay......j/k lol

I like Romo. I think he's a good talker. But are you really a good analyst because you can predict plays before they happen? Doesn't that kinda spoil the surprise? He might be better suited for a coaching gig.
Luckily thats only a fraction of what he does.
But yes, he DOES show that he knows and fully understands what your watching

Romo doesn't just make predictions. When he has time he explains WHY what he sees on the field leads to the prediction. He did this repeatedly on the Patriots final drive. THAT's what sets him apart from all the "Heckuva play there!" guys.

He will be a coach someday, it is obvious from his passion and excitement. We saw the same in Gruden, just a matter of when. Both were/are itching to get back in.

I give Tony about four more years before the kids drive him over the edge and throw his hat back in the ring :muttley:
He's not going to get back into coaching.
He has the DREAM job. He can be the next Madden. He makes a ton of money without the headache and the grind of coaching.
Gruden coached BEFORE he "retired" to the booth.
Gruden likely saw the handwriting on the wall at ESPN, which was tossing crew overboard at a maddening (pardon the pun) rate. And when a $100 million contract came calling, Gruden thought it was the right time to abandon the sinking ESPN ship.
Tony's enjoying himself and enjoying football from the booth. You can tell.
Tony can ride his television gig into retirement and, possibly, the Hall of Fame.
He's not getting back into coaching.
