Sean McVay is what we wanted JG to be

None of those three would have made the playoffs, although I suspect they probably would have had better seasons than they actually did if McVay was coaching them.

What's your point here? I've already admitted that talent is still important and that's not all coaching that matters. But coaching is very, very important.

Would Jason Garrett have won a SB with Philly last year? Nope. Would he be in line to win a SB this year with the Rams? Yeah, no.

Frankly, if you flipped coaches two weeks ago, I think the Cowboys with McVay and the Rams staff would have beaten the Rams with Garrett and his staff.
You have no idea, he took a less talented team to the second round, on a 7-1 stretch...lol

And then lost in a game where it was pointed out in multiple places that the Rams staff out game planned and out schemed the Cowboys and took advantage of some of their tendencies.

Our talent was good enough with proper coaching to make the NFCCG game. It didn't. Largely because we have an average coaching staff. That's been proven year after year after year and I suspect it will prove itself out in the next couple of years as well.

And then, maybe at that point, you might actually admit that maybe Garrett has a ceiling, regardless of what his roster looks like. Then again, maybe you will always look for the excuses for Garrett and even if he never makes a NFCCG game, you will convince yourself he was still a SB caliber coach just let down by everyone and everything.

You don't know that they were talented enough, you're guessing, you claimed our qb wasn't good enough and inconsistent. You said the OC sucked.

What does the OC have to do with talent?

And yes, the OC wasn't very good but he's a reflection of the overall coaching staff, which frankly, I think is average to decent overall, at best.

They are as much a hurdle to making a real run as the holes we have on the roster.

So you say the should've beaten the Rams on the road who were considered 1 of the 2 best teams in the NFC, but we didn't upset them because of the coaching......lol

Again, 7-1, beating Seattle in first round with patch work ol, and a qb you claimed wasn't good enough, but that's average coaching...ok

Coaching was a big factor in the loss, absolutely. I question the intelligence of any fan who thinks that the Cowboys coaches did a really nice job against the Rams last week. Note, that doesn't mean I think the players did great. They had their own issues with mistakes, etc. but absolutely, coaching was a problem as well.

Again, it was well reported the various things the Rams coaching staff did to get us off our game two weeks ago. It was well reported that the Rams staff noticed and exploited tendencies our defense showed at times. It was reported that Rams offensive staff used a lot more motion and formations to get our LBs moving pre-snap to get them out of position.

And this all came from unbiased, national reports, not people will axes to grind with Garrett.

LOL. So if McVay doesn't beat the Patriots in the SB in his second year as a head coach, his star might be burning out?

Hahahahaha. What's the star looking like for a coach that has been coaching for 8.5 years and has two playoff wins and never sniffed a champ game?

I never once thought of Garrett as a star. I am the farthest thing from a Garrett fan. I never wanted Garrett here even as an OC. The only good thing or two I can say about Garrett is that the players play hard for him and he knows the old-school game of football. He has won the NFC East two of the past 3 years and his overall winning record is decent. I prefer someone else but it sure looks like we Cowboy fans are all stuck on this Garrett train for several years longer since Jerry Jones likes him.

Again, you expected an UPSET?

Another ploy of the Garrett crowd............ shorten the debate into small windows............ to make Garrett look better than he is.

Great, he went 7-1. No one said he was terrible. But even average to decent coaches have good runs from time to time. Shoot, Chip Kelly went 7-1 down the stretch his first season in Philly. Did that prove he was a really good coach?

So Payton was a bad coach because , we did things to his team that had them score 10 points. Did this coaching staff out game planned/ out coach him?

I expected them to play better than they did (I wasn't sure they would win) and not give up 270 yards on the ground.

And if they had gone out there and lost a tough game where we played well and did most things right, I could have lived with it. But when you find out after the game we got outcoached and once again (like other big games such as the 2016 Packers game), that our tendencies were seen on tape and used against us, yeah, I am going to be more upset that we lost.

Because we shouldn't be in a situation where once again, coaching seems to come up small.

I think the Saints staff had a blah game against us and our staff did a really nice job that game. The defensive staff in particular had a great game plan and made great calls all game to keep Brees out of rhythm. The offensive staff, I think, did an OK job but there were a couple of throws by Dak that game that he missed that would have made the score and the offensive production look much better. For that night, Garrett and our staff out coached Payton and his.

But I also don't deal in one off games to reach far casting conclusions........... that's dumb. Using that logic, Mike Vrabel is a better coach than Garrett because the Titans smacked us in our own house. But I'd be a fool to take Vrabel over Garrett as a HC. I don't think Sean McVay is a better coach just because the Rams beat us two weeks ago. I think McVay is a better coach because he's just done a better job in these two years than Garrett and in two years as a HC has accomplished more than Garrett has in 8.

I look at the entire picture. Garrett and his staff had a better game than Payton and his staff but when you look at the entire resume, it's clear one coach is better than the other.

1 game? How bout Seatlle ? Philly twice? All coaches deemed better.

Talking about head to head matchups. You brought up the Saints game and I was just pointing out that while our staff did a better job that game, I wouldn't claim the Cowboys coaching staff is better than the Saints based on such a small sample.

And yes, I wouldn't think Garrett is better than Carroll either, even though we beat the Seahawks a few weeks ago. There's a danger in putting way too much value in some random games instead of looking at entire resumes.
