Jerry's coaching conundrum has the Cowboys cornered

You must not pay attention to Jerry Jones.

The thing he hates more than anything is a coach with power. Parcells helped him build a football stadium. Otherwise, it's been a collection of Chan Gailey, Dave Campo, Wade Phillips, and Jason Garrett. A bunch of invertebrate yes men.

Age and time might make him do differently, but he'll do so begrudgingly.
Everything you said is not true.

No, they're intertwined, all three of them. Most franchises wouldn't be so entrenched in Dak. Jerry NEEDS Dak to be the guy so badly for his own sake, as does Garrett.

They refused to let Romo even compete for the job in 2017, which was colossally stupid. No other franchise would have done that.

They're the current triplets. Taking all the arrows of blame together every day.

Oh, I think I see... you mean in the context of the immediate future.

Okay. Yes. We agree.

Longer term, this is meaningful to the owner's and the head coach's legacy, but by the end of his career, probably not so much to Dak's in comparison to what will have been his relationship with Stephen as the presumptive lead of the front office for the next decade (at least), and whoever ends up being the head coach after this season.

We finished in the top 8 teams in the NFL this year. We have won the NFC East 3 out of the last 5 years.

We also have the 2nd youngest team in the NFL right now.

Lets stop beginning every story with how much of a mess our organization is just to give our threads more relevance.

We are not really in that bad of shape.

You can look at it that way, but I'd like to move beyond the Divisional round before I die. And there is a difference between winning with the talent on the field vs. winning with great coaching and scheming. The latter is what we haven't had, and it has cost us many, many games over the last decade.

Spot on Coach!!

This franchise is no longer built with championships as the ultimate goal . Jerry sells that hope every year but obviously if it was the top priority he would changed his ways years ago.
Absolute total bull****.

Unfortunately, we've had positive outlooks before, and had our hopes dashed, for 23 years.

After so long I don't really have a positive outlook for this team, it's more just hoping against hope that somehow, anyhow, any way that we can get back to being at least somewhat like the team I followed from 1968 to 1995...

I understand. And this team may end up again falling short of the ultimate goal. But speaking only for myself, I don't expect to play in the Super Bowl and never did. I expect a competitive team that has a good chance to make the playoffs because that's the requirement to be able to win a Super Bowl.

In America today...if you win by one point on the last play, you’re AWESOME, THE BEST, A LEGEND, ICONIC HOFer, etc. If you lose by one point on the last play, YOU SUCK, YOU DON’T DESERVE TO LIVE, YOU’RE THE WORST, etc.

overreact.com

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration because it doesn't take into account a player's full history of success or failure.. One moment in the sun make's you Brad Johnson or Kerry Collins, but continued success makes you Troy Aikman. Had Troy only won one Super Bowl and had similar career numbers he would not be considered the HOF level guy he is today.

Honestly, because nobody seems to be going anywhere anytime soon, I think our first goal right now has to be getting the offense to start the game like it's the 4th quarter. If they could be consistent throughout the game, this team would go much farther, with much less stress, and maybe the backups could get a few reps in the last quarter. Could Moore be the guy to get things rolling earlier?

The defense showed that it's not quite ready yet either, but I'm less worried about them. Almost all the pieces are there, just need a few tweaks, I think.

I don't think Jerry necessarily believe in Garrett anymore. I think he despises winning big again and not getting the credit....again.

He'd rather lose his way than win his critics' way.

On this one, we're on other planets at opposite sides of the sun.

I see nothing like that today.

I do get why you'd say that, but the basis for saying that went away a long time ago. Jerry first swallowed a big dose of his pride when he allowed Parcells into the inner kingdom for the time that he did.

Then, any residual quest for pride remaining in Jerry was quenched when he put on the gold jacket. Regardless how any of us on the outside see it, in his mind (which is the only place that matters to this vein of discussion), Jerry has no detractors anymore that he has to actually regard as legitimate.

With Red, it's not about Jerry getting credit as-if he needs anyone's acclaim at this point, but it might very much be about Garrett being like a son to him... and the pride that comes from seeing someone who you regard that way succeeding.

Of course, it is a business. And Stephen will remind Jerry of that after next season if Garrett hasn't made it to the NFC championship game. The adopted son will be asked to step aside for someone else.

Fair point. When Romo was in his prime, the offense put up points early. I imaging that with this current defense we could put away a lot of games.
I'm really getting to love this defense.

I'd counter the argument with this:

Who was actually available this year?

Based on the hires made, I'd say not much.

Agreed. Is anyone in Denver excited about Vic Fangio? Adam Gase flops in Miami and get the Jets job. Can't wait for the Josh Rosen-Kliff Kingsbury drama in the desert..

If all we're talking about are guys like John Fox and Jeff Fisher we may as well keep Garrett. They're not worth an overhaul.

This is no longer the franchise many of us grew up with. The sooner we accept the reality we can begin evaluating what it’s become. Jerry is a master promoter and sells hope.

I prefer to believe we simply have addicted fans who want to believe and simply allow themselves to do so. There are thousands who have walked away but many more have joined. And sponsors and companies stay true because the product sells.

And fans become engulfed in the players as well. Jerry knows this and why he remains faithful to a fault in them because they put butts in the seats and sell jerseys.

But fans like any customer ultimately have control over the success in how they patronage the product or entity. The Cowboys were once on the brink of bankruptcy and why Jerry implemented many of his historic revenue generating contributions so he wouldn’t be held as directly responsible or accountable for the results on the field.

I have to disagree. If this were true, Jerry would no longer be GM.

Parcells was here because Jerry wanted a stadium built and the team was awful.

That was the ONLY reason he considered him at the time.

Ultimately I don’t see this current roster as championship caliber regardless who is our HC.

Elite 8 is about where I’d put us. I have yet to hear an argument which places us in Final 4 this year.

We weren’t even picked to win our division. If I’m stuck with our FO and HC I’d like our chances better with a more prolific passing QB.

Thank you. I swear it seems like there is so much good just drowned out by desires of everything under the sun instead of taking stock with what you have at least.

WE lol he had money before the Cowboys, he made even more with them,

MY point was if Fans are so phucking unhappy stop attending games, buying gear, and signing up for forums to ***** and complain , then when that all hits his pocket book, He will sell the team or make changes..Fans complain make jokes but fill stadiums and buy merchandise...

when Jerry bought the team this is what happened Fans weren't filling seats, buying merch, and there were some TV blackouts and ticket gave away at local grocery stores.. that doesnt happen anymore... blame jerry for buying team with 2 SB wins with the greatest coach on earth over 29yrs and turned around and won 3 in 5yrs but over 29 its not enough because he doesnt get the right coach? I mean Landry won 2 in 29yrs, Jerrys won 3 JIMMY right he hired him Jimmy would have left regardless, dont nothing without Jerry did he? Dolphins win a sb with Jimmy..

you want change stop filling stadiums and making the Cowboys the #1 sports franchise in the US top 3 in the world..

Hes here as fans we just have to suck it up but the Owner and GM and sometimes the coach we cant control, just root for players but the internet just has this non stop complaining yet they still are fans.

Don't overestimate the worst fan base in all of professional sports.
