Agreed. Is anyone in Denver excited about Vic Fangio? Adam Gase flops in Miami and get the Jets job. Can't wait for the Josh Rosen-Kliff Kingsbury drama in the desert..

If all we're talking about are guys like John Fox and Jeff Fisher we may as well keep Garrett. They're not worth an overhaul.

It never ceases to amaze me who teams hire for head coaches.

Kingsbury goes 35-40 and is fired, and he's given the reins to an NFL team? Wade Phillips is fired from 3 teams and is promptly hired by another. Norv Turner is fired from 2 teams and promptly hired by the Chargers. Hue Jackson goes a freaking 3-36 and is being considered for the Bengals??? What do owners see in those guys? Why do they think they will be successful with their team when they've been mediocre, AT BEST, with multiple teams?

Guess the league is so conservative they can't look past their own noses....

You can look at it that way, but I'd like to move beyond the Divisional round before I die. And there is a difference between winning with the talent on the field vs. winning with great coaching and scheming. The latter is what we haven't had, and it has cost us many, many games over the last decade.
Of course we would. Everyone would, that goes without saying. I think just about every team wants to get to the ship and win.

There's a whole lot of data that says it is.
As much as I bash our dysfunctional organization which it deserves the fact remains they actually are still above the average franchises which is really more of a testament to them than us because they are actually trying harder than we are but still failing . Lol

I’ve often argued if the NFL mandated all owners serve as their GM following Jerry’s model the Cowboys might could dominate the league.

This isn't every team. This is the Cowboys. It used to be expected.

Dallas has been to 8 Super Bowls. It used to be a thing, like the Patriots.

Now, we're the Cardinals or Bengals. Just hoping to get to the playoffs now and again.

We celebrated winning the East. We never used to celebrate winning the silly East.

It means we beat three teams. Whoop-de-do.

Garrett has reached his peak....he's as good as he will ever be .....ever since Jimmy left Jerry has been trying to convince people he knows how to build a winning team, and for over two decades he has failed, and the Garrett hire was his all-in move that has also failed.

Most refuse to admit it but this team is as good as it will ever be as long as Jerry is still around......Garrett is just the latest piece of his long string of failures during his "GM" tenure.

Bottom line....it is what it is.

I have to disagree. If this were true, Jerry would no longer be GM.

All due respect, I have to disagree.

We have good reason to believe Jerry's opinions on player acquisition (draft and free agency) have been muted by his son in recent years. He may be the "GM" in title, but no GM lets others opinions trump his own.

Many fans are to be forgiven for the presumption that traditional top-down decision-making structures are universal.

They've never been part of an executive structure where a superior only claims 51% of the vote, and thus, if the rational part of his brain can be won-over by just 2% by the others in the room, their opinion carries the day.

It is clear in the DAL FO that Stephen, in particular, is altogether capable of winning over his dad. Abundantly.

This is not the same old Jerry Jones, at least in that way.

The coaching pool for the NFL diminishes all the time.

For the most part except for a handful of coaches who have the ability to build its a talent driven league.

The teams with the elite QB you build around. The rest are trying to overcome not having an elite QB or trying to find one.

Parcells was here because Jerry wanted a stadium built and the team was awful.

That was the ONLY reason he considered him at the time.

Two things can be true at the same time.

There's nothing in that that I necessarily disagree with.

And what I said still holds. His motives for swallowing his pride don't eliminate the fact that he did, in fact, swallow his pride.

Yep.. you can see how pleased Jerry was.

We are still one of the few teams who don’t hang Divisional banners but we should now.

Ultimately I don’t see this current roster as championship caliber regardless who is our HC.

Elite 8 is about where I’d put us. I have yet to hear an argument which places us in Final 4 this year.

We weren’t even picked to win our division. If I’m stuck with our FO and HC I’d like our chances better with a more prolific passing QB.

I will take our roster over the Saints and Rams. Rams have McVay and the Saints have Brees who is old and seemed to wear down as the year went on. We beat the Saints and lost to the Rams due to coaching, scouting, them knowing what we were doing based on alignment.

Dak over the second have of the season averaged over 100 passer rating. Defense is young and fast. Team is on the rise and this roster can compete with anyone.

Like most all of you, I've seen enough of this stale one-act play. Garrett did some important things here, but that was long ago, and it's definitely time for a new coach and approach.

But who? And how?

All of Jerry's GM sins are haunting him right now, and the Cowboys are a cloudy mess. What are the Cowboys wanting to be exactly? And who would really want to come here of any repute?

Some say he wants Sean Payton, and that makes enough sense with their history. But I just don't see how that would work.

Beyond just the contractual aspect of this, what has Payton ever done without Drew Brees? He got fired as the Giants' offensive coordinator. And just how is he going to institute his offense here with Dak Prescott? That offensive style just doesn't suit Dak's strengths and weaknesses.

Much of the same can be said for Josh McDaniels, or Lincoln Riley, or any other young passing guru coach out there. That's the flavor of the day, but just where is the fit for a coach like that in Dallas right now?

The eyes say this is a run-oriented, defensive football team, which is the opposite of what the Sean McVay crazed league is heading toward. That's perfectly fine, but it doesn't warrant the type of coach that everybody is clamoring for.

Rather than trying to incorporate things this offense isn't suited to do with Dak, wouldn't it be smarter to go after a more defensive-minded head coach in the traditional Parcells or Jimmy model?

That's what Jerry has hoped Garrett would become. Garrett takes that type of approach, but it's not amounting to anything beyond moderate regular season success. It works much of the time, but when a game gets sideways and the Cowboys have change up, most of the time they just can't.

A change of scheme is a good idea if you can do it. Maybe this team can make that change, and maybe it can't.

I think Jerry is afraid to take that leap of faith on a big-money new coach, and I think he's afraid to hear the truth from that new coach when he gets here. Money owed means power, and Jerry doesn't like handing that over to anyone. So he does nothing. Again.

Jerry, Garrett, and Dak are forever intertwined. They will win or go down together.

If Jerry capitulates and brings in a new guy, it won't be his idea. He hates that. It means WE were right, and even in grand victory, it will be a bitter pill. His way didn't work. Ours did.

That's like Jimmy Johnson all over again, and it would gnaw him to his core.

I would not get caught up too much in who is coach, what offensive system should they run, etc. This all comes down to points scored per game. At very least it looks like team will need to avg about 25-27 points game to be taken serious. If they can avg 30 pts game with that defense, RB then I think were talking SB contender for next few years. Right now they avg 21 pts game so something fairly dramatic has to happen on offense to get fans excited again.

All y'all JG haters are going to get your wish. He hasn't been extended and the writing is on the wall. Regardless if we're playing a top their schedule next season, JG is expected to go farther in the playoffs....period.

That's the expectation. Anything less and he's fired.

That’s mere speculation based on the assumption Jerry’s isn’t capable of making better decisions and being influenced which we know simply isn’t true.

I could give several examples of Jerry still very much involved. The Cooper trade is a great example but there many others in recent years.

I'll reiterate it since you may have missed it.

But Dak Prescott's numbers are better than Drew Brees' were - across the board - before Brees hooked up with Sean Payton. Why is it that Brees numbers can and did, dramatically improve, but a guy like Prescott, with better numbers, couldn't?

Stash, I don't care about the numbers. I see Brees throw passes from his 5'11" frame a hell of a lot more accurately, consistently, than Prescott does, consistently. Brees issue early on was not accuracy, it was reading D's and making snap decisions.

I've never cared much for stats proving or disproving anything when I can watch the player play the position. Stats wise Emmitt Smith is the GOAT and he's not in my top 5.

Every QB is going to have misses but the ones I see Prescott missing are Passing 101 ones in the NFL. He can make every throw but not consistently and will never be a Tier 1 QB. Until I am proven wrong, that's my opinion.

Let's see where these soph QB's, Mayfield, Darnold, Allen and Rosen are this season and check their progress; however, they didn't come into a top OL and run game as Prescott did. Then let's watch Tua, Lawrence and Herbert when they come in.

The question is whether to stay with a Tier 2, at best, QB and have to build around him and hope they can stay healthy because we've seen him with missing pieces or go for the gold with a better suited QB for the NFL game. Prescott needs the players around him to elevate him; Tier 1's elevate the players around them and you only have to be concerned with keeping 1 player healthy.

Garrett and LInehan won the division with Dak at QB 2 of his first 3 seasons, so I would certainly expect any new coach to do even better since everyone thinks our coaches stink. New coaching and more experience for DaK should mean better results, right?
More experience does not always equal better.

I am sure we can go back and forth on how fans feel about where the Cowboys should or should not be. But saying that we should take stock of what we have done and how to build on it is not celebrating it. The only way this team gets better is looking to itself and getting better. Whether its QB play or schemes or management, everyone has to do it. Fans should as well because some are quick to abandon or quick to dismiss. Some would appreciate throwing out just about everything just to start over. That does not win the ship. And regardless of what was before that this team didnt do, teams that have short memories tend to do better.
