The Eagle Has Landed

Sutherlund is a cheese like he is in most of his movies.
Duvall is stoic and does a good job.
Caine as a German is the definition of bad casting
but he does a decent job with it.
The Hagman character deserves what he got.

Bumblebee

Went and saw this last night. Pretty typical of the Transformer movies. Had some good action, stunning CGI, and definitely some Hollywood cheesiness. Was refreshing to see some of the Transformers as their original forms. i.e. Bumblebee is a VW bug. Heck, even Soundwave had an appearance. I thought the character development was good. Overall I really enjoyed it.

8/10

12 Strong I had read some poor reviews of this movie and decided to watch it anyway and am glad I did, I really enjoyed it. It is the story of the first American military into Afghanistan after 9/11 with orders to seek out and kill a tribal war lord with the help of a friendly war lord. 7.5/10

Daredevil 3 Just finishing this up and it is one of the best of all the comic book genre ones that I have seen. I am assuming there will be no 4 on Nefllix since Disney will be taking over the Marvel material for their own service. I read where they're really going to try to PG theirs up and wonder what that will do to the darkness and edginess of one like Daredevil. I am looking forward to The Punisher 2 debuting Friday as that is the best one I have seen. I thought Thomas Jane was a great Punisher in the theatrical release but Jon Bernthal owns that role.

Bad news on the Daredevil front, sorry to be the bearer. But it was cancelled, likely due to Disney starting their own streaming service soon. I've read that there isn't a two-year exclusive rights deal in place for Netflix so there unlikely to be able to do anything for that time. Three of the Defenders series shows have already been cancelled - Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. I don't know if they'll simply wait it out and then start again, or totally reboot.

Yep, saw that and if they try to re-ignite Daredevil without those 3 central characters, not gonna fly for me. Charlie Cox is Daredevil.

This is the last round for The Punisher on Netflix as well.

Going to be interesting to see the impact of Disney on Netflix, especially since they just announced the rate increase. I think we're going to see more like Bird Box coming.

What's the rate increase? I hadn't heard about that?

Just announced they're going up $2 on the top 2 streaming and $1 on the base model. I think it was a very cagey move. They've just released the most successful movie in their history and are getting out front of Disney to better affect the churn rate. One of the reports many will wait for is the effect of Disney on the other streamers and the premium services on cable and sat. There's just so much to go around for a lot of people so they'll have to choose and once GOT concludes, HBO might end up being the biggest loser because of that huge spike they get when the final season debuts. I am the only person I know that keeps HBO year round, everyone else just signs back up for GOT.

I read that Netflix was looking into the development of something along the lines of GOT or Lord of the Rings. More companies in the game is better for the viewers but there will be casualties.

First Man

Great movie. Highly suggest it. A bit slow but a more intimate look at a fantastic piece of human history.
I couldn't imagine what it would feel like to be the first person to step on the moon. That is not just some little slice of history, that is gigantic history of mankind.

Crazy they said some 500 million people watched that event. China just landed on the dark side of the moon just recently and not a peep about it in mainstream media.

The launch scenes were very realistic--made you really feel what it might be like.

We finally saw A Star is Born this past weekend and really enjoyed the movie. You can't help but be impressed with Bradley Cooper - co-wrote, produced, directed, and starred in the movie. To top it off, he is not a bad singer either. I have always enjoyed Lady Gaga's music, but seeing her in a dramatic role sans all the glitz was really eye-opening. And, who doesn't like Sam Elliott??

Overall, a fairly predictable plot with great acting and musical score.... 8/10.
