What happens to Garrett if this happens?

I’m neither hoping this happens nor predicting it will either...But what happens to Jason Garrett if the team gets off to another slow start in the 2019 season? Say, 2-4 or 3-5?

What happens to the mindset of the players, knowing their HC does not have another year on his contract, and the team struggles early out of the gate? Would this team quit on him knowing Jerry won’t re-up his once favorite adopted son with a mediocre or below season?

We all know this team will be playing a divisional champ schedule, which theoretically means there are less cupcakes on the schedule, although that’s never a guarantee either way. (Some years, it ends up not being as difficult- you just never know year to year) The pressure to win AND win early I think will be one of the bigger storylines as the 2019 season starts. And that’s a good thing. Garrett’s had too many chances IMO anyway.

If this team falters early again like they did last year, I think Jerry might make a change during the season. Maybe he goes with Richard as interim to see if the troops rally around him. Again, I’m not necessarily predicting this will happen, just pondering the “what if”.

One message I believe Jerry has sent that I like- I think he knows the clock is ticking for him and his ability to see another championship. The Amari Cooper trade and the Paul Alexander firing last year sent the message that Jerry wants to win NOW. I don’t think he has the right HC to win with, but maybe he’s finally fed up with the “wait til next year” slogans he’s thrown out for 23 years. Maybe...

What do you guys think?

There’s no way he fires Garrett mid season he will get the entire season even if we’re out of playoff contention by week 12

Hot sports opinion out of the gate...I like it! Although I don’t agree. If this team has another 3-5 start, I don’t think it’s out of the question Jerry may pull the guillotine lever.

With enough complaining, and near suicide watch from fans, hopefully Jerry panics and just fires Jason mid season.

I do believe that will happen, and if that's what it takes, I hope we start getting our *** kicked to start the season, because no matter how good we start off, with this coach and QB we are not going anywhere far in the playoffs. We will just be playing to lower our draft pick and make guys like Elliot older

So I pray we start off bad, get a high draft pick, and Jerry gets rid of Garrett and Dak. Perfect

Garrett pulled them out this past season, so I see no reason why he wouldn't be given the same chance. I think he gets the whole season barring a really bad first half, like 1-7 or 0-8.

None of it matters. Next year is already a throw away year and everyone knows it. The entire coaching staff save maybe Richard is now in lame duck status. No one should be the least bit surprised when next season gets very ugly.

I would love to think that but he’s given Garrett so many opportunities that it just seems that he’ll get the whole season no matter what

If it were me....if Garrett falls 2 games under .500 at any point I’m dismissing him

That’s a fair point, but where I disagree is I think Jerry is running out of patience. A slow start probably means your team isn’t going to get that coveted #1 or #2 seed which has been gold the last 5 years (except in Dallas of course, ugh) If this team is just a Wild card or #4 seed division winner....Hmmmm....not sure that’s going to be good enough.

I could certainly be wrong. But I think the message JJ is finally sending is- win at least an NFC championship or adios. And that’s probably going to require a #1 or 2 seed.

We'd have Wade/Garrett all over again. But I don't think Jerry fires Garrett.
I think Kellen Moore will take over quietly and Garrett's role will be diminished.
He'd be a lame duck essentially...

really Jerry doesn't do his coaches any favors by announcing not extending Garrett,
just don't do it and let it play out.

IDK Garrett tends to respond to pressure. Assuming everyone is healthy next year, the roster is ready to win and make a deep push. Will they?

If they have a poor season then sure coaches including Garrett would deserve to get fired. However claiming next year is a throw away season and everyone knows it? BS that is one person opinion not everyone. Cowboys did what many here predicted they would not do last season in winning the NFC East as well as winning a post season game when again many of the same critics said it would be 1 and done. No doubt more should be expected and I think Jones does expect more and this team and this staff will have to go out and earn it. However do not see this team or this staff giving up, they are one of the youngest teams in the league and fully expect them to be a post season contender.

Moore is being groomed for the next head puppet, so it wouldn't surprise me if Moore got the nod early if we come out flat. Maybe Garret knows he's gone regardless, so what does he care? Not like another team will hire him as HC after this.

Jerry the uber-optimist will just take that as a sign the team is about to go on a run and win the division again.

We don't know yet if Garrett will get an extension.

I don't see any players thinking that Garrett will be gone after the season considering how much support he has received from Jerry in the past and how entrenched he has been as the HC.

Garrett has pushed to acquire Right Kind of Guys and push out the Wrong Kind of Guys.

They've drafted a lot of college team captains and Garrett is the biggest reason they didn't consider re-signing Greg Hardy. This roster is highly unlikely to quit in the coach.

You should go root for the Browns. They lose a lot and get high draft picks for it. It would be right up your ally.

Unless a slow start (more likely, it would have to be disastrous) could be directly attributed to Garrett alone, there’s no chance he gets replaced during the season.

A slow start would more likely be rationalized by Jerry as the result of Kellen Moore’s inexperience/growing pains as OC.

We’ve a long ways to go (draft, FA, trades, mini-camps, injuries in the preseason and who knows what else) before we have any definitive idea about what the 2019 Cowboys will look like heading into the season.

I never said “next year is a throw away season”. Your opinion is fine just don’t attribute an opinion to me that I never said.

They let Kris Richard be interim HC and Kellen Moore is calling the plays as OC if he isn't already.

By that time we have options at HC i.e Sean Payton, Lincoln Riley and who knows if McDaniels could sell out and be bought out snaking the Patriots.

At this point this team plays for a top 5 pick and acts competitive through games but tanks at the end for the junk record. Richard intensity or not.

They'res a very good QB class coming next draft. Tua from Alabama, Herbert from Oregon and if Trevor Lawrence from Clemson comes out too, those are 3 QB's that would/could go 1st overall in just about any draft.
