Stoops to the XFL

Not an embarrassment.

This XFL incarnation is not the one of 2000.

WWE is now a media empire worth ~6.5bn

Back then it was worth less than half a billion.

McMahon is personally putting 500mn into the launch.

Rumors currently are that ABC is looking at offering them a 3pm Saturday timeslot, along with a Saturday evening slot on ESPN, supplemented by slots on ESPN2/ESPN+. WWE is in talks with Fox as well, with games airing on Fox itself and Fox Sports.

XFL is going to make the recently launched AAF irrelevant.

Dallas is viewed as the marquee market by McMahon & co. Given the large rabid football fan-base (us), they see it as an area that will eat up more football of pro-quality. Stoops may be making a smart decision.
I'd bet on the XFL signing some big name, "controversial" players of sorts.

I expect Dez Bryant to be on the Dallas XFL team. Likely will see some other big names around the XFL. Josh Gordon could be in this category, as may be guys like Tebow or Kaepernick.

:lmao2:this is going to fail just like the xfl. No one wants to go see dudes that can’t even make the practice squad play.
See this is actually the biggest thing XFL has going for it.

Their minimum salary is going to be double that of the CFL, and well above that of practice squad players. They will also be offering all players health insurance during their time in the league + a minimum of one year after it - a perk not even offered in the NFL.

Top "marquee" names can get the yr1 cap of 250k + an allocation from the league itself for "brand ambassadorship", so a guy like Dez could get 250k + a 1mn league allocation. Additionally, important for a guy like Dez, players will receive generous %'s of jersey sales on-top of that itself.

Also expect big WWE names to be leveraged, would not be surprised in the slightest to see someone as high-profile as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (who they've reached out to) serving as the owner (or GM in name-only) running a franchise.

IF, and it is a big if, they stick to their stated goals, this will be the best football on the market outside of the NFL.

Is not just the large, rabid Cowboys fanbase in Dallas - it's the almost as large (possibly larger?) number of transplants that are fans of other NFL teams that won't have competing loyalties preventing them from rooting for the local team.

Agreed 100%, but there is a reason they have huge markets getting teams and are playing in large arenas / stadiums. Also keep in mind, they are not having a rule like the NFL that requires 3 years of being out of HS. So an 18 year old top prospect could take the option of going straight to the XFL, make great money, do it for 3 years, and have a potentially alternative route into the NFL than college football.

Imagine being a say four star recruit, coming from not much money, facing the ability to all-in make ~400k a year, playing with a guy like Dez Bryant on your team, instead of playing college football for free. I think a lot of guys will choose to take that route. Then after 3 years in the XFL, declare for the NFL draft.... the XFL business model works well on 3 sides - 1) NFL vets that want to extend their careers, 2) NFL young-ins not able to get past the practice squad, 3) top prospects that would prefer an immediate income to college football

The only thing cornier than the XFL is the WWE.

Exactly. Money talks and everything else walks, especially if it means being able to jump over to the NFL a few years down the road from the XFL.

If the XFL starts making it big, hence starts paying their players pretty good and allows very good players to jump over to the NFL a few years down the road, I'm pretty sure many high school graduates will take that road $$$$.
100%

If you're from a poor family, a 4 star recruit QB, you could maybe get a chance to get in position to get drafted in the NFL after 3 years of college football... or you can join the XFL immediately, make a great income, play 3 seasons, then declare for the draft.

Secondly, they'll be offering more than double the minimum salary of the CFL / AAF, that has already been stated as a policy. This puts the minimum salary in the XFL above being on an NFL practice squad (though the NFL will inevitably just raise the salary there).

I personally love it and hope it succeeds on every front.

Imagine seeing Dez Bryant at WR with (just throwing a name out there without knowing personal finances) a guy like 18 year old Trevor Lawrence at QB.... 3 years go by, Lawrence is drafted in the NFL, and instead of going by college tape, they have 3 years of full-time pro-level football to grade the guy off of.

He took a floundering OU program that hadn’t even won the conference championship in 13 years and that had a losing record each of the previous 3 years, and in his second season won the national championship. Overall he had a 190-48 record as a head coach and won 2 national championships. Not many that have done better than that.
The question is, would that translate to the Pros?

Hopefully they don't have a tool-bag commissioner.

Would never work unless Jerry kept his mouth shut and let Stoops run the team as he wants to, not Jerrah, and we all know that won’t happen.
I want them both to keep their mouth shut and hopefully build a real team

That’s my opinion as well. The only professional football league other than the NFL that has a chance to survive and thrive is one developed for 18-24 year olds who can’t get into college or decide against college and want or need to go make money right after high school. I think in short time, a league like that could be a big draw for some of the best high school talent and would soon be on par with college football in terms of talent level on the field. The NCAA would fight you all the way and you would have to work out a deal with the NFL on how your players would enter the draft but to me this is a multi-billion dollar idea that someone with the money and connections could make work. Built up the right way, the NFL might one day buy it and finally have a true developmental league like baseball. I have always said there’s one reason above all that college football is so huge and college baseball barely registers with anyone. That is because everyone knows that the best 18-22 year old football players in the world are playing on Saturdays for their college but the best 18-22 year old baseball players are playing on A-AAA teams throughout the country. Not many people get excited about watching 2nd and 3rd rate talent and that’s why these leagues will fail. They will be made up of guys that got cut from NFL teams and couldn’t get another shot. Who cares about watching them?

Without a doubt that's a question. It doesn't always with top college coaches. In the case of the XFL though, I image a lot of why he is being hired is aside from that. I imagine they are looking for his name recognition to add a little credibility to the league.

Probably right, I mean many wouldn't mind having him a part of an NFL. It will be interesting to see how the league will do.
