My Favorite play of the game

That was great! He destroyed that QB. The game kind of surprised me overall. They were hitting hard out there. The game was faster paced without 50 penalties and 1001 commercials. You know 7 flags come out on that play in the NFL. You can't even hit someone hard in the NFL even if it's a clean hit.

Give it to mid season before these teams get it totally together. It even takes a few weeks in the NFL and they have 4 preseason games. Most of the NFL teams aren't up to par for the first few weeks of the season.

Steve Spurrier looks like he might have a massive coronary at any time. Bless his heart.

LOL, always been Spurrier, especially when things aren't going his way. He's Tom Caughlin 2.0 in that regard......lol

I have never understood the charm.

So I am a company. I want my patch on that jersey. Okay.

What is the big deal? Why would it mean a huge exchange of consideration and at some point, cash?

How often are you influenced by stuff like that? How about how a stadium is branded?

I am sorry. Maybe there is something wrong with me, but I just don't find myself being so easily influenced by a logo and/or brand label.

I don't give a rip who the moment is sponsored by.

I chuckled at a Bud Light commercial on Sunday.

That does not mean I am intellectually stunted and will now start to buy that product.

These sponsors actually pay a guy (let's hope it's actually a crew... lol) to count the number of times
their logo was both seen and mentioned during a live event... smh.

This could really become a thing, if ratings are good enough. If here for some football in the NFL's offseason, to make up for having to wait 6 months until the new season.

Steve Spurrier makes this worth watching on his own. The fact that my hometown of San Antonio has a team and there's some former Cowboys and Aggies in the league, it should be fun.

The league really shows how hard it is to find quality OL. For the same reason passing games fall apart in 2nd half of NFL preseason games, the OL play last night was awful in terms of pass protection.

San Antonio has a nice run game going in the 4th. If the run games become consistent game times will be about 2:20.

Last nights game was about 2:35. The Cowboys has a lot of the games this year between 2:50 and 3:00. The shortest was 2:45 vs Atlanta.

It’s really hard to evaluate QBs if the OL gets blown up every play. There was a lot of Chaz Green style play out there last night.

They already have a rule where you cant rush more than 5 for that reason.
Apparently even that isn't gonna do it lol

Anyone watching?

I am doing so out of morbid curiosity.
no but I saw it by accident channel surfing and was like W T F , how can they have this startup league and the soon to come XFL and the NFl and College football and Canadian leagues etc?? the players available will be so diluted it has to hurt the product.. from the glance I saw the biggest issue is the QB and Offensive lines seemed below average even for startup league..

I couldn't find many names I recognized, except I though I heard Demontra Moores name, wasn't he the ex giant and Ex cowboy DT?

im not sure how theres enough quality payers around to fill up all these leagues and put out a product people will come back to watch over and over..

easier to not officiate when multi million dollar contracts are not on the line for players and coaches because when the outcomes mean a lot more you have to officiate more to keep it fair..of course league where all the players have the exact same contracts in time and money can be played little looser.. I guess the 40 sacks combined for both teams didnt stop the game or make it ugly? anyone comparing that with the NFL is crazy.. this is second or third shot or the only shot for a lot of those players who want to keep making money playing football but cant make the nfl or hadn't had their shot yet they can get noticed..

Watched Orlando kill ATL.

It's not bad for football in the NFL offseason.

The AAF pace of play is 100x better than the NFL

They went 10 minutes over their goal of 150 minutes but it still felt fast.

I had to leave for a while and missed half time. How long did that take?

I enjoyed it more than I expected I would. It was a defensive battle but like @Flamma points out, this was the first game and these teams have only had 1 month of practice, so the offense needs a little time to gel. The defense can only rush 5 and cannot blitz from the secondary, I think that's a bit of a double edged sword. It's done to help the QB, but it can also lead to more coverage sacks and we saw that last night.

I love how they handled challenges and booth review, they have the replay official mic'ed up and we can listen to them talking through the review. The explain what they're looking at, what they're looking for through the whole process, complete transparency. Everyone is mic'ed up, it was cool being able to listen to the coaches on the sideline, players. etc. The guy working the mute button to bleep out any curse words had to have quick reflexes...lol

Overall, it was a great first game. The shorter play clock, minimal commercials, minimal flags, just lead to faster play and even being a low scoring game, it didn't feel slow or boring. The Commanders were in control most of the game and moved the ball fairly well, they just missed some opportunities or it would have been a blowout.
