Smith got that after 5 solid years in KC. If Dallas gave Dak a comparable offer after 2 more seasons of productive play, I could live with it.

IMO Dak gets much less guaranteed money than Alex Smith, but incentives that would let him earn more if he performs. I think that is the right fit for everyone.

I think 20-23 mil would be the best range to get Dak. Any cheaper would be great of course. But his market value is probably around there.

Unfortunately there are a bunch of overpaid QB’s in the league. It’s unfortunate but it’s the way it is.
What do his QB rating of 96 mean?

I'm okay with that but big money usually has big guarantees.

You do realize that Dak will just take the place of Romo's salary right?

In fact, that is a great idea! Whatever Romo's percentage of the cap the last three years should just go to Dak. There, problem solved!!

We were still paying Tony this year. Next year is the first year he's off the books.

I spoke metaphorically, my good friend.
You guys seem opposite, with him being of more benevolent spirit.

Both you guy are Aces in my book. And I see both of your viewpoints.
And we see yours.

Thirty-something Alex Smith is a reasonable comparison to current Dak (young Alex Smith was not as good). I'd say that's a fair price. The problem is no one has won a championship with Alex Smith. Good regular season marks, not much in the playoffs. Sounds familiar.

Paying a good QB like he's a great one - just because he's the best one you have - isn't likely to get you over the top. Now if you think he's going to turn into a great one, that's different. But you're rolling the dice, not betting on a sure thing.
Bingo! Well said! Alex was a good QB but was limited because of his weak arm. I actually think Smith is better than Dak. But wouldn't want him either.

But I couldn't disagree more with the idea that you let Prescott walk because you can find starting caliber QBs standing in front of Home Depot looking for work.

Had I said the Cowboys should just let Dak walk you would've had a point.

I'm saying make him a reasonable offer. If he expects to become the highest paid QB in the league, then yeah, let him walk.

Well when your owner and GM says he wouldn't even think about trading you for 2 1st overall draft picks, it's understandable that you'd start to see dollar signs! $$$

Catch is the one saying that. And there is absolutely nothing anywhere indicating Dak wants to be the highest paid QB in the league.

HUGELY immature statement by Dak. The only thing I (and everybody even) could not criticize Dak on is his maturity and how he conducts himself infant of the media.

This is as immature and needless and stupid as it gets. Why would you go there Dak?

You stink at QB and now you stink in interviews.

Brady just circled that Cowboys game on his calendar. I predicted a win for us, but with his bog mouth, this is going to be a blowout that fits the Dallas Cowboys

that is what I thought too.

Dak is an average QB. Offer upto 20Mil a year so we can keep building around him. Anything more and there is no need to extend him this year. If he wants 25+ it's better for us to keep him on the rookie deal then franchise him the next year for 30M and then decide if a bigger contract is worth it. If he was a top tier QB few would complain but he isn't and if he wants top tier $ then string his butt out a few more years and also look at what his trade value might be to a desperate team.
I think 20 mil is about where it gets done

The problem with paying Dak is he had 10 games with 1 or less TD passes. 3 of those games he had 0 TD passes. To me those numbers are not franchise QB numbers.

His stats were nice last year after cooper got here. I'm sorry but I have to see passes like the one to Gallup vs the Seahawks for a TD more. He needs to work himself to that Russell Wilson level of playing that ball over the defender into the receivers hands more consistently. We aren't asking him to be perfect , but what the organization zhould ask of him before he gets paid is can you give it to the receiver if they burn their man? Can YOU make plays on a whim. I mean not offensive coordinator called plays, what about if a receiver sees a breakdown , and can go deep over the middle or anywhere? The question is first will you see them? Two is will you hit him with a ball that can get the most out of the route they are running. We need Dak to take that next level. We need our QB to push the envelope not just do what the coaches ask. That's my opinion. There is money for QBs who drive the games, for QBs who can highly affect games to help win in a few moments because of their surroundings but they play to win, then QBs who can only manage games by simple plays and play not to lose. After that you have losers. Dak is a second tier guy

NFL football 101 Dak.......fans hate hearing NFL players talk about money/contracts. Let your agent handle it. Stay out of it......

Exactly. Dak is usually pretty careful to not say anything that can be twisted by the media, and the best way to avoid that with his contract situation would be to simply say he is focused on football and letting his agent handle that.

Cowboys is a fairly young team and keeping the core together at the right price will be the key to a SB run. If Dak DLaw Zeke Jones and Smith all want to be paid the highest then there goes your salary cap. Thats where you better hit on your draft picks so that those big egos dont hold you hostage. Tom Brady didnt just take lesser money because his wife is rich Im sure those six rings and the label GOAT has something to do with it also.

I'd let him hit the open market.

There is no way he would leave Dallas and I don't think there would be a big market for Dak Prescott.

No need to compete against ourselves on this one. Pay him top dollar according to the market and if some team is dumb enough to give him a huge contract then let him walk.

Let's list the QB needy teams. Dolphins, Jaguars, Giants. Cinci is a possibility. The Commanders can't pay Smith and Dak.

So that's who we're competing with. Three stinking teams. Two of which I believe will take a QB in the draft. That leaves the Dolphins. So I think you're right. We're competing against ourselves.
