sbark---- good reasoning with accurate data.....look at Brady though..takes pay cuts so he has better players around him and keeps winning every year....teams will over pay for under performance only so long....hope Dak learns this financial wisdom to "slow burn" his way to being rich in Dallas instead of trying to take too big a bite in the beginning and get dumped.....Dak needs good players all around him to win consistentlyCan put some blame on the college feeder system....their run toward system offense schemes
It's the easy road for wins at the college level, good h.school qb should avoid like a plague
There are very few ready for the nfl
For every Goff that can be talked thru reads until close to the snap, there are 100 Paxton lynches that just won't get it. Then the 1/1000 pat mahomes or mayfield
Scarcity of a product drives up the price...Econ 101
Has dak improved even during the season...yes
He stopped the wild 360 turn to the left, he cut way back on the jump ball spread leg throws with nothing on them, he gave us a few deep middle balls with excellent results ( jarwin, a.cooper)
Will he keep improving...chances are yes
Will it can it be enough to warrant limiting the 24 other players , depth etc around him
....depends on scheme, coaching as we've seen with Mcvay and pederson just the lady 2 years
I think they could institute a cap on individual players in general without targeting QBs. Say 12% of the cap. That's still a lot--22mil/year. Then, if a team has a QB on a rookie deal, and have they best pass rusher in the game, they can blow their money there instead, if they wish.I would love for them to cap the QB position, its hurting the whole league
I'm with you on it, Cowboys need to keep major incentives on dak to improve and performsbark---- good reasoning with accurate data.....look at Brady though..takes pay cuts so he has better players around him and keeps winning every year....teams will over pay for under performance only so long....hope Dak learns this financial wisdom to "slow burn" his way to being rich in Dallas instead of trying to take too big a bite in the beginning and get dumped.....Dak needs good players all around him to win consistently
Yep, he did but it wasn't like a "take it or leave it" comment, more of a comment on just how much they had to spend on the QB position. He didn't mean he didn't have a choice because he did, what he meant was the team didn't have a choice. But I was surprised to read those comments but then again, I don't know when they asked him. The night they inducted Willie McGinest, he was hammered and slurring his words to the point that the two guys on each side of him on the dais were exchanging glances.
The problem is not the players, the problem is the salary cap system as a whole. The system needs to be more flexible.
That's what he said recently, I am talking some time back when he took that team friendly contract. And I did not mean that was a negative statement by him toward Brady, it was a just a fact about what they needed him to do. But, it was a statement that shocked me because of the relationship between the two. But when I think about it and the position he was coming from, it wasn't a slam at all or suggesting an ultimatum to Brady. He said that the contract wasn't an issue, but it it was they would deal with it. That's diametrically opposite of what you originally stated.
Sounds like a good idea reallyI think they could institute a cap on individual players in general without targeting QBs. Say 12% of the cap. That's still a lot--22mil/year. Does everyone have a burner account here?
Yep and since QB's comprise the least number of players next to P, PK and LS and they're the biggest ego babies always needing attention, the NFLPA might be willing to work on that to better allow the other positions to make more money like the diva WR's.I could see a cap on QBs working out.
We saw a cap placed on rookie salaries because ultimately, both labor and management wanted it. The teams didn't want to pay Sam Bradford $50 million guaranteed before he took a single NFL snap. The players didn't like rookies strolling in and making more than even some of the most highly-paid veterans. So we got a rookie wage scale starting in 2012.
I could see a similar type of deal here - management doesn't want QB salaries crippling their cap, and the rest of the player get a bigger pot of money if the cap limit stays the same but QB salaries are limited. The 2020 CBA negotiations are going to be fun.
Would you rather the owners and TV nets get more of it? It is outrageous in all sports but as long as people are willing to pay and watch, those that actually do something should get the lion's share of the take.Let's be honest....all these NFL players make too much for playing a sport. Its not just the QBs.
