You could tell What Men Want is just another female reboot, but this time it was the 2000 Mel Gibson movie, What Women Want, which was just okay. I'm guessing this was a movie geared completely toward a female audience.

I can't believe that anyone felt that the original film warranted a reboot?

oh no. The Earth is doomed. Wait. It is not caused by alien invasions, mother nature, human neglect. oh no. Who or what could be the cause THIS time?

Geostorm has a nice premise backed by fair directing and acting. Gerald Butler does a fine job but does not get much support. Please answer this question if anyone has seen the movie:

Did Jim Sturgess, Butler's brother in the movie, look like he was on drugs? Serious question.

Ed Harris was okay. Wished Zazie Beetz had a bigger role.

Nerd moment. I have read and seen the sci-fi idea of weather controlling networks before. Satellites are usually the mechanism used to make the system work. This may be the first time I have seen a weather net that had ALL the satellites PHYSICALLY connected to each other. Not just connected in parallel to each satellite, which strains my brain enough, but also connected perpendicular and diagonally too just like... well... A NET! All created within the Butler character's adulthood. wow.

Lastly, be sure to check out Andy Garcia giving martial advice towards the end of the movie. It is like he telephoned in that particular line of dialogue.

For a guy that I felt actually had talent, Gerard Butler chooses the absolute worst roles.

No doubt. I really believe his choices have killed his career. After 300, I thought he’d be the next action superstar.

I took one for the team years ago when the wife wanted to go and see the big screen Phantom of the Opera and Butler really impressed me in that too.

I then heard he was talking about the lead role in an Escape from New York remake (one of my all time favorites), but that never happened either.

Then I tried to check him out in Olympus Has Fallen but literally couldn't get through the first five intelligence-insulting minutes of that one, much less watching the sequel!

I thought he was a star in the making, but turns out, nope!

I liked him in "Machine Gun Preacher" but then the name put me in the frame of mind not to expect too much and I liked "Law Abiding Citizen".

Tom Hardy is good solid all-around actor. And underrated in my opinion. Venom was his second big venture into the genre (that I can recall). Hardy played Bane in The Dark Knight.
The series Peaky Blinders is good. Hardy is in it.

Alita: Battle Angel delivers a straight forward uncomplicated story with excellent combo of action and CGI. Christoph Waltz and Mahershala Ali both deliver solid but admittedly constrained performances. Jennifer Connelly was a bit aloof to me but it did not turn me off. I think all three (even Waltz) take a true step back behind the main character. That may play some part in how some of the audience see the movie but there is no mistaking who is the centerpiece of the story.

My only turnoff is the 122 minute runtime. I will be surprised if Alita is a one-shot that does not generate a sequel because its story cannot end the way it does in my opinion. The heroine does a ton of stuff and I believe it is only a stepping stone to lots more.

Time for a new movie avatar...

I almost said she has tiny fingers in that picture, but then I remembered her eyes are oversize. lol

BTW, I know you've been looking forward to this movie for a long time. Sorry it wasn't a 9 or 10 for you.

Yeah. It had room for improvement but I enjoyed the heck of it. Alita kicks serious butt.

PS: In my opinion one of the best lines was delivered by a supporting character who was only on screen for a few minutes. Remember this line if you catch the movie (paraphrasing): "I knew he wasn't a dog lover." I cracked up. :D

Alita - There's a lot to like here. There's also a quite a bit that's not so good. The action and Alita herself are strong. The CGI is good, but sticks out way too much for me. The love interest is pretty bad. The story is simple, and leaves a lot to be explored in the future...which, unfortunately, I don't think will happen looking at the box office v. budget.

Happy Death Day 2U - Not as good as the first, but still pretty enjoyable. Jessica Rothe just owns these movies. I didn't know her before, but I am a fan now. This one expands the universe instead of just rehashing the first. These are definitely more quirky comedy than horror, and now include significant sci-fi elements.

Isn't it Romantic - basically exactly what you'd expect from the trailer. Makes fun of romantic comedies while being one itself. Predictable but amusing.
