No blind loyalty to aging or injured players. Just what can you do for me now and in short term future... Bellichick would never keep Sean Lee at $7m, Allen Hurns at $6m, Beasley at anything more than $6m. Like he did with Gilmore, he would pay for a defensive star in his prime (D Law, ET). But save money where you can. I hope that if Lee and Hurns remain on this team, they are significantly restructured.

He also traded away chandler jones who happened to accumulate 41 sacks the last three seasons since the trade.

Oh, and this will be the year that Sean Lee finally stays healthy! We really, really promise this year guys! This year for sure!

A day Allen Hurns is gonna come back better than ever off of that broken ankle and catch even more than those 20 passes in 2018!

And Tyrone Crawford might even get us a career high 6 sacks for that $9 million we're paying him!

So Dallas is like the other 30 teams in the league. The thing that NE has that Dallas or every other team in the NFL does not have is Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Getting rid of Lee, Hurns, and Beasley are not going to make Dallas automatically Superbowl contenders, Comparing Dallas to NE is not a good example because Belichick is going to out coach the clapper 100 times out of 100.

And Brady has played for essentially half his value willingly.

We don’t have the right ownership to let their coach make the decisions and we don’t have the coaching staff and system to plug in players and have them succeed.

We apparently need elite players at every position to win.

Its so true what you say here.
Jerry has proven in the past to be too loyal to a fault at contract time by rewarding past production instead of the players current red flags/non performance trending arrow that screams declining risk for the future that should not be taken.

What I really fear is "Second Contract and Beyond Syndrome"...

This is that condition a player gets once he signs that second contract and he has millions guaranteed and it just seems to take away the hunger that existed in said player before signing him to that contract and he seems to just coast along thereafter never regaining his once dominant performance level.

As a GM, I probably wouldnt be the biggest risk taker on a guy who blew up in his contract year either. I would need more sustained superior consistency for the past duration of his first contract. That's just me though. It's why the GMs make the big bucks to make those types of decisions. And I guess the franchise tag kinda provides the safety net 'prove it' scenario that kinda protects you in a sense. Similar to how Lawrence was tagged last year and showed a 2 consecutive year level of very good production.

Sure hope all these pending Cowboy Second contracts net the same hungry players and their performance levels prior to signing.
And not yield the lazy satisfied with status quo, I've got mine now I'm gonna coast mentality. That's my biggest fear.

Yep and the Pats tend not to overspend in FA either. Not only that, if they sign one and they don't fit the "Bellichik mould".... fired, gonzo very quickly

See Dez Bryant. Big contract and wad of cash weighed him down apparently. Jason Hatcher was another. Had a big breakout contract year and every tackle he came up rubbing his thumb and forefinger together in a "show me the money way". Fortunately we showed him the money in Washington after that

He might pay Beasley $6m per but it would be an a short term deal.

It's a significant risk whether they are brought in as free agents or are your own, although you tend to have more info about your own.
