So the issue here is he's 20million against the cap until he gets his longterm deal. The huge benefit of the longterm is even if its 23+ million a year, you can reduce the first few years of cap hit to 15 or lower if you want. Keeping it as a franchise is bad news unless you plan on trading him.

The reason that's a big problem is because if you get a deal done before the july deadline thats great, except up until then youll have 5+m$ in cap space basically wasted because hes sitting at the 20+ mark while franchised. So during the beginning of free agency you have much less money than you should have had you got a deal done.

Whats doubly bad is Jadaveon is probably going to get a record deal, you NEED to do Demarcus's first, or hes going to reinforce his desire to be paid outrageously once we see other guys doing it. That's why I'm so happy we got Brandon at 13.5 now. If he saw the 22, 23, 24, 25(?!) million dollar contract DE's are gonna get this offseason, he would absolutely have gone somewhere else for big moula. Maybe not 20, but no way 13.5.

What he wants guaranteed is likely the issue
If you could pay him 60 over the next 3 yrs that’s about the market. The problem is I’m sure he wants more like 4-5 years and probably 60 or so guaranteed so that runs it up

Hes pretty young though, and in 4 years 20 million a year might be a good deal. Just like 4 years ago 15m was huge for a DE.

So we are eager to pay long term contracts to players like Dak before we need to pay them out, while simultaneously NOT paying players that it makes sense to sign longterm like D Law, while ALSO not being key players in FA— BUT also NOT being “conservative” in building our roster?!?!

Seems to me he wants to get paid like the top DE in the game...
I have no idea what he’s asked for or what we’ve offered
I suspect it’s not about the size of the contract but how much is guaranteed
If you look at the top guy it’s 23 and that’s Mack
20 seems like the right amount to me
But he may want a bunch of it up front and they may want most of it played for

I keep reading this is simply to buy us time?

What the heck have we been doing all off-season?

I think he should get close to Danielle hunter money. Similar stats. 40-50 million guaranteed

Fair enough...

BUT, he's gotta drop the BS; he's a Boise guy for cripes sake!

Can't be acting like a world class shmuck when we've got a ton of other guys coming up on contracts.. His shtick might catch on, then suddenly, we'd have contract disputes with every guy on the roster...

Both he and Bease need to understand it's a privelige and an honor playing for the Dallas Cowboys... There's no need to act like TO over a contract negotiation..

If he's gonna be a leader, then have some damn class!

Dallas, Houston nor Seattle wanted to pull the trigger first on the DEs that were FAs. No one wanted to set the new going rate. Lol...hopefully a long term deal gets worked out before July.

Awful decision. Should have taken the comp pick
Why, comp picks start in the third, and there’s no way we trade him for anything less than a third.

Also, if he just sits out part of the season then leaves the following year, we’d still get that 3rd rd comp...

If Lawrence foregoes having his shoulder surgery, he'd be hurting himself as well as the team. His value would only depreciate as a result. It would put the Cowboys, as well as himself, in an unfortunate position.
