Yes. He supposedly wanted to finish his career with one team and total years were more important to him than per year salary. He got the record total salary with the most years and a full no trade clause. He's a Phillie for life, apparently.

For the Phillies, not only do they get this big bat into their now scary lineup but at 25 million AAV, they still have the financial flexibility to go after Trout should he become a FA. He wants to play in Philadelphia.

and getting Trout would be awesome. Need some starting pitching now.

Arenado for COL just got 8/260m or 32.5m
Harper taking 7.2m less is very surprising
It's mindboggling Nt. You hear and read so many different things you just don't know what to believe pertaining to the entire Harper fiasco. And than to hear it wasn't about the $.... please?!

Certainly sets the stage for a dog-fight in the NL East.

Still question if the Phillies are the best team in the division. The Nationals have the best starting rotation and the Braves have one heck of a farm system.

If the Phillies end up 3rd in the division... Just imagine the repercussion.

The Mets have the best starting rotation in the division and they improved themselves too. So the Phillies could end up 4th.

Anything short of serious contention for the division title this year would get the manager fired but I'd still have a lot of hope that they will be serious contenders. That lineup is nasty and they have ownership that will spend every last dollar to get another title.

Harper

.279 lifetime average
Coming off very down year
Average 25 hr a year... sorta

You can’t justify this deal. He won’t be worth that money for second half of contract years.
He’s getting like $50 mil per year if you chop off second part of contract years imeffectiveness.

Not.
Worth.
It.

They won’t win a title either.

They don’t learn.
AROD was not worth $250 million.
Then a new contract. He cleared how much? $500 million = fail.

Get this: When Harper gets his last paycheck from the Phillies in 2031, Bobby Bonillia will still be four years away from his last check from the Mets! :lmao2:

Only the Wilpons would pay bonilla 1 million a year for 30 years over six million up front. Steve Phillips special arangement.

Sad report today....the first baseball player I tried to be like when I would be outside playing baseball with my brothers and friends. I would also throw the ball and then make sure my right knee dragged the dirt when i released it. I sat in the car on at midnight in June 1976 listening through static trying to hear what happened and to who he was traded.God Speed Thomas--you gave your fans so many thrills. He was the Jacob Degrom back in the day. Shutouts or giving up one run and no run support. 43 years later, its the exact same team. Donald A Grant to Jeff EEE Wilpon -same sorry difference.
