While that's true technically, I reapectfully think you are missing the dynamics involved

What dynamics? There is no pressing reason the Cowboys have to get his deal done before Wednesday at 3:00 central. They can't reuse that tag again this season. If they thought like you they would know that Lawrence would have the total upper hand, as it is, the Cowboys have until July to work out a long term deal. If they don't then Lawrence can either play on that tag again or do what Bell did and sit out but that will come at a price. First he'll never recoup the money he would lose for sitting out. Second, he will be branding himself as a me first and only type player and most GM's avoid them because they become problems in the locker room. Third, this season won't count as an accrued season. Fourth, what he made last season on the tag and if he plays this season on the tag will have made him enough money to take care of himself and family for the rest of his life. Now most especially the Cowboys would prefer a long term deal and I think they will end up making one, but there zero reasons they have to get it done before Wednesday.

Our health was pretty good outside of frederick last year. Who is to say it stays that way?

Injuries can happen any time and with the cap no team can be really good at depth at every position. Teams first worry about how much they can spend on starters and then go about doing what they can for depth.

What's it going to be then, eh?

I will say for the record that if we had not gotten Cooper and Looney would not have played as well as he did (not saying he was an all pro by any means) that the record would be closer to what I predicted since we had no #1 WR at the time. .
Without the Cooper trade, this was yet another 7-9 or 8-8 team at best.

The whole idea is for an organization (and the fans for that matter) to understand what it is that they witnessed.

Dallas won a ton of close games all year and should have approached this offseason like they were a five hundred team.

Instead we are doing what we have always done.

Overvalue modest success.

Clutching our own to our bosoms, thinking we can't do better and just wait until next year and cross our fingers for some better luck.

How's that going? Cause they've had a head start on signing their own guys and haven't signed anyone but bums.

Thats because all but D_Law are still under contract and he was franchised. Before they do anything major they want these 5 guys signed!

I may be wrong but the price of the tag gets added to the cap once applied. That means getting a deal done before free agency officially begins and contracts can be signed would lower his cap number and give us back some cap space. That's a pretty good reason to get a deal done.

yea lets only keep the crew that never gets us out of the second round of the playoffs. Let's not try to get better.

We all wanted Jerry out, but if Stephen doesn't hire a GM, it might get worse. Yeah, we have a 'sweet cap', but we still don't even manage to sign our own guys.

Absolutely, they should and I bet 75% of the league is in that mode also.

With our soon to be slot (Hurns) coming off a nasty ankle injury and the heart and soul of our D-Line needing shoulder surgery. To boot, it's highly questionable if he is going to get to camp being tagged again and not liking it.

Oh right, and our other starting DE is suspended indefinitely.

No dominant DT since the talented one we had is also suspended/retired so he can continue indulging.

Our 1st rounder from a couple of drafts ago was in the dog house last year, didn't get on the field much and is having his talent questioned.

Woods seems to be a very young and solid safety but he has had durability issues. Heath is good depth and a good ST's player but he's a turnstile while tackling and a notch below average starting quality at safety.

I can see our offense improving next season just on health and cohesion alone, but how could it of been any worse? Will our red zone issues improve and is Kellen Moore going to be able to call plays that help us win games?

Our defense kept us around last year and the whole D-line is shaken up right now.

We got a low 2nd round pick which I can see us getting a player. Maybe a good TE in the 3rd where this seems to be a very deep class.

I know we have to re-sign our guys, we all know that. But we need a player or 2 on the D-Line and more talent at safety where this is a loaded position in FA. The draft is also loaded on the D-line. Stephen said we would not be conservative and I still believe it. I just believe they won't go guns a blazing in FA the 1st day or 2 unless they strike on a safety or pass rusher that will become available.

Otherwise, I have to really feel that this team is setting up for next year when we have a full draft and what's supposed to be a very good cap situation with a young good core of players signed. A very good situation for a new HC and staff to be in.

With out a DT dallas will need Dak, Zeke, and Coop. I think I've seen this movie somewhere before:confused:

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I've read the book once a year for the past 23 years...

I was just watching NFL Network, they are reporting that the Cowboys have 5 guys they plan on re-signing.

1 .Dak Prescott
2. Zeke Elliott
3 Amari Cooper
4. D_Law
5. Byron Jones

They do not plan on being active in FA and if Earl Thomas does not come down from the $14 per year he wants, he wont ever be a Cowboy.
This is not news. The Cowboys announced this strategy for the preseason a long long time ago. The NFLN once again wasting out time telling us things that we already know.

You could:

Same GM, same HC, OC with no previous experience whatsoever...
The OC has no previous experience whatsoever? LOL He may not have ever filled the role he is filling now but c'mon man, his experiences as a QB and QB coach was at least of some value? You can't even give the man credit for that? You don't have to like the guy but you don't have to exaggerate to make your point.

Who’s overvaluing last year?

Tell me what previous OC experience Moore has at any level of football?

Not only that how many games has he actually started at QB in the NFL?

He may in time turn out to be a great OC, hell even a great HC in the fullness of time, but next year with NO experience?

Ability can only compensate to a certain degree for a lack of experience, especially at the very highest level.

Don't be disappointed if the results are less than stellar next year.

He was QB coach for like 11 months before he was named OC. That's a pretty rare and meteoric rise for a guy playing QB two years ago.

It was a very strange and risky hire, especially with a young QB. You just have to hope the Cowboys made the right choice. I have my doubts based on their overall recent history.
