Dated 3/1/19

...So the natural question is why not remove the bone spur in the offseason?

First, not all bone spurs are symptomatic. In the case of a Haglund’s deformity, the presence of a spur itself does not always equal surgery. Obviously, the medical staff feels it can be managed without surgery.

Secondly, the presence of this type of bone spur rarely leads to Achilles tendon rupture.

Finally, surgery to remove the spur is not always simple. Often, removing the spur means detaching all or part of the Achilles insertion (essentially creating a tear) and then repairing it. The recovery from that can be tricky.

Understandably, fans want a definitive solution to having missed almost all of last season with the heel issue. And given that Berry missed the previous season with a heel tendon rupture, the fears are understandable.

Exit physicals are a very important part of a medical staff's job. That is when offseason plans are made to get players fully healthy for next season. Certainly, surgery was contemplated, a second opinion was obtained, and the thought is that with conservative care the symptoms can go away.

A four-month rest timeline, as Berry had from the preseason into late in the regular season, is interminable in the NFL world. But that is normal for dissipation of symptoms away in the real world.

Knowing what I know about Achilles tendonitis and associated Haglund's deformity, the decision not to have surgery is understandable. Fans should trust the Chiefs medical staff and Berry didn't opt to take this path without full consideration of all options.....

When is this FO going to learn to stay away from off field issues, projects and injured players and just fricken draft a top S. We're not a S away from a SB anyway. If we were they would have taken a chance on ET. . . SOS, different year. . .

Just.

Stop.

Dallas.

He’s a phenomenal talent and person but injuries that he has along with our medical staff he would never see the field
We've been one of the healthier teams the last 3 years. ..

No thank you, the talent we get from KC doesn't seem to be able to answer the bell for whatever reason.

No thanks, cannot stay on the field. I didn't want Earl for the same reason, injury prone.
BCarr never missed a snap and he was hated around here

Picture this..... we are playing PHI in the Playoffs and Eric Berry is healthy and covers Ertz ..... is he worth a look?

Maybe we don't need him for 22 games a year

Please explain to us "fabricators"... "released Berry as soon as their cap allowed."

Because as far as I'm aware, teams have been releasing players and making more cap room for themselves for about a month now...

... and maybe define "fabricate" since there seems to be some confusion as to who is doing that.

Sure thing, since you obviously can't grasp it. The timing had to do with MONEY as well as time. Not just one. They dropped him as soon as they could financially handle it and had his replacement (Matthieu) in place. Or did this not occur to you?

Yeah, I'll trust a total outsider who has no access to medical reports, and even if he did, has no medical training to understand what he'd be reading (at least as far as anyone would know here).

...hehe...

That's some special kind of know-it-all attitude you got going there, my friend. "Special" is kind.

The smart people aren't the ones who know they know what they know, but who know they don't know what they don't know... and respond accordingly.

You keep your dream alive. And rush to pay damaged goods a ton of money to get hurt again because of a documented medical condition.

And then have the nerve to talk about what other people "don't know"...
