Based on the posts that I have seen from Chiefs fans, they love the guy, but don't think he can ever play at a high level again. I wonder if the Chiefs approached him about a Sean Lee type restructure before cutting him. He seems to be very highly thought of as a person and leader. I would guess wherever he signs, it will be on a low risk one year deal. I think Dallas should look into the possibility of signing him, but I get the feeling that there is little chance he will become a good starter again for any length of time.

Broaddus is saying no go on Berry

Well, they gave the impression they were interested in this whole free agency thing. Mission accomplished.

(No, I don’t actually think Berry would make any significant impact on the team)

The Achilles injury is what I would be concerned with.

And if you try surgery and the Achilles takes damage from that.

Waiting for an Achilles to explode is bad news. But that's what makes him a Jerry pick. Jerry will take those risks that other GMs don't want to touch.

My take is if he can pass the physical and will accept a cheap contract, I have no problem taking a shot. But I wouldn’t like the idea of committing too much to a guy that has missed almost all of the last 2 seasons.

I honestly wonder if it was Berry that was a Longhorn and it was Earl who was a Volunteer, that the responses would be the same.

Neither are young, and neither have been particularly healthy the past 3 or so years. But they both have a better skill set than our current Safeties.

If you really wanted ET, then I don't see how you could logically be so against EB.

JMHO

Here's the big difference for me.

Earl Thomas missed two games in 2017 due to a hamstring injury. A nuisance, but not a serious injury (unless your Miles Austin).

He then missed 12 games in 2018 after breaking his leg. A more serious injury, but one people fully recover from.

That's a total of 14 games over two years.

Conversely, Eric Berry has only played in 3 games over the past two years. Due to a ruptured Achilles in 2017 and an issue with a heel deformity on the other foot that kept him out nearly all of 2018.

A much bigger and scarier issue.

Like Lee, protect the team against injury, make game incentives and play time incentives. The contract doesn't have to be that cheap if it's protected against not playing.
