Said it before.....these next 3-4 signings will tell us a lot about Stephen Jones.

The Cowboys have plenty of young, key players who are due for new contracts. As to two of them, negotiations have yet to commence.

Clarence E. Hill, Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegramreports that the talks haven’t begun regarding new deals for quarterback Dak Prescott and receiver Amari Cooper. Both are entering the final year of their respective deals.

First, DLaw, then Coop.

I am pro-Dak and would not be upset if we signed him long term, but if this is a prove-it year for Garret, the new coach might want to go in a different direction.

Jones...ehhhh. I like him, but I am not even sure he will be our best CB at the end of next year.

I actually would not mind getting Zeke done early so that his second contract ends a year or two before he hits that 30-year-old wall.

Cooper is the only deal I'd do because it would be good for the team to get his cap hit down. I'd wait on Dak to see what progress he makes, and would wait on Elliott because of the shelf life for running backs. No reason IMO to pay him more until we see if he looks like he'll be able to play at the same high level he has so far.

This is what I would do as well. Get the Lawrence deal done already and then lock up Cooper. And that’s enough for this year. No more.

Then reassess things next year, depending on performance and the head coach’s preference.

Yes on all and Ive been on the signing Zeke early bandwagon. Why wait and then when he hits the end of the contract you waited on his wheels are falling off?

Good to wait on both. If Dak makes playoffs wins few games then it seems like he’s a lock to get 27-29 million a year.

Cooper will get similar to what we would have given Watkins. Around 17-18 per seems accurate.

All in all. If we continue to win these guys will get paid accordingly from the joneses

This is the thing about Dak. Whether you like him or not.....at this point you should know if he’s your franchise qb or not. It makes no sense to wait and sign him if you think he’s your franchise qb. You aren’t going to get him on some bargain. The sooner the cheaper the deal.

His going to get starting QB money regardless if we do it this year or next. There's not going to be considerable savings doing it early. He can wait.
