I say let the season unfold first. There is no reason to start throwing money at Dak right now.

It's always nice to see an intellectually overmatched buffoon like Shannon Sharpe expose his agenda and hypocrisy. Suddenly, he's barking out numbers showing what a great three years Prescott has had after bashing him at every turn? Yeah, your slip is showing.

I'm with you. Unless he's willing to take a reasonable deal to get paid right now, I'll exercise my right to play out the contract and franchise tag him in 2020.

All this talk of quarterback contracts "going up and up and up" is short-sighted. Apparently, some people don't realize that none of the top 6 highest paid quarterbacks appeared in the playoffs last year? Or that the majority of teams overpaying are perennial losers who you wouldn't want to imitate anyway? Or that the teams that are overpaying would love to get out of these deals if they could?

At some point, a team has to be smart and draw a line and let their quarterback walk if they have to. And as much as I like Dak, there's probably not a single team better set up to be able to do that than this one. Top defense, top running game, top offensive line, quality receiving corps, there isn't an offense set up to help the quarterback more than this one.

"Team Friendly" is very subjective.

A team friendly deal could be one that's easy on the salary cap in year 1 and 2 so the team can sign other players who are nearing the end of their rookie contract.

A team friendly deal could also be "less than market value" and I cannot see any player doing that unless they have already cashed in on multiple post-rookie contracts like Tom Brady who also is married to a wealthy spouse.

Exactly......just me but I get the impression Stephen's thinking how the contract is structured. I don't they'd have no problem paying him what he's worth ( market suggest ) as long it gives the team X amount of flexibility to restructure and sign other future players. Like DLaw, I think fans/media will blow this out of proportion. Other words, I don't think this deal is going to be as hard as some make think. Why......coz BOTH Dak and FO want this to happen but in a way that helps/protects the team.

That’s exactly how I would do it. Everyone talks about fair market value but there is no way to know what that is with Dak unless you let him test the market. The definition of market value is the most likely price a buyer will pay and a seller will accept after typical exposure time to the market and both parties being fully informed. So to find out what his market value truely is, you must put the non exclusive franchise tag on him and tell him to bring you his best offer from another team in writing and you will match or beat it or take the 2 1st round picks. That last part kind of throws a monkey wrench into the equation because having to give up those picks will surely affect other team's view of his market value. Still, there is no way I would pay Dak more than $20 million a year for 6-7 years without first knowing that’s how much I had to pay him to keep him because someone else would if I didn’t.

This is it exactly. If they get one done now, it'll be more team friendly. If I'm Dak, I take it, too. Guaranteed money, that still makes you rich, is far better than potential money down the road. You're one bad snap away from never making anther dime.

Dak should be paid according to where he fits in the overall picture. Is he a top 5 QB? A top 10? Is he the reason the offense wins games?

The values are set. It is easy to get a range. If Dak accepts the lower range it is team friendly. Or the structure could make it team friendly.

The thing that freaks people out is Said deal might set a new team record and be the highest deal in thel league That is simply because the guys ahead of him haven't had their deals redone yet.

I think a contract that is structured to help the team and pay Dak his market value will happen. I'm sure Dak wants to stay with us, and I think that he's aware of what we're building. So, I'm quite confident that his deal will be quite fair, and it'll be beneficial for us too.

Yep. There has to be some measure of give and take.

I wouldn’t give these billionaires any type of discount......they know how to find money when they need to find it.

So if you watched the DeMarcus Lawrence presser today..

we heard all the statements from Tank about wanting to do.a deal thar was fair and that he knew the team needed money for other talent to help him.

No doubt that will be the theme with all our coming signings.

Wonder who might depart from that mantra and demand top position money like Earl Thomas did?

When someone follows Pete Carrol down the runway saying "come and get me" you'll have your answer Red. Personally, I thought that ET gesture and the gesture of him flipping off his team was a statement about the dude. Frankly, I don't think any of our guys are that classless. Do we play Seattle this year? Watch out for the runway shenanigans:muttley:

Dak or Amari will set a new team record without a doubt and $23 mil would be a new team record. Dak's contract will not be the highest in the league IMO

Just like #9s ego, right? Where was the "team friendly" deal there...during both big contract re-signings?

We used to spend like drunken sailors in FA. Not relevant to now. It’s a different environment. The escalating salaries have created a situation where numbers matter more.

Hopefully, Dak doesn’t let his agent’s greed hurt his chance to win. If I could make 25 million AND win, I’d take that over 30 and lose. I’m still filthy rich.

PS...#9 the last 5 years (pre-injury) was a better QB than Dak has shown thus far. Doesn’t mean I dislike Dak, or think he can’t be great and win Super Bowls.

Horseface wants Dallas to overpay, so they can’t afford to pay for a good support system. Then he can continue to get paid for that stupid smirk.

I don't think Zeke will get more than Dak because RB's aren't as highly valued. I do see him holding out for top payed RB in the NFL. More than Gurley and Bell
I am like the rest of us.

I believe in our guys to a fault.

Zeke is worth whatever they can pay him.

Without him..we are not contenders.

It was such a shame he had that Rams game..

he had us where we wanted to be.

The Cowboys are all-in on Dak being the franchise QB going forward. There is no other viable QB waiting in the wings (Rush and White included) and no one in a position of power has even remotely hinted there is a Plan B that doesn’t include Dak.

Stephen Jones has publicly stated more than once that they want Dak extended before the 2019 season, so a deal agreeable to both parties is gonna get done and fairly soon.

Much like the recent D-Law negotiations, which produced much angst here but ended up with both sides being satisfied, Dak’s gonna get paid market-value — with a healthy bonus, per-year salary and guarantee. Some of us will like the numbers, some won’t, but it’s gonna happen.
