Dallas won the first day of the draft, here is why

The things this fanbase says to justify their Cowboys worldview.

The Cooper trade worked out well for us. Yes, it ended up being great trade and totally turned around the season.

Now, did we win the first day of the draft? No.

And that's okay. We don't have to win draft day, or jersey sales, or ratings, or whatever you guys need to tell yourselves to make you feel good about this organization.

We need to win playoff games. We need to advance to the Super Bowl. That's the only winning we should be concerned about.

Was happy when the trade for him happened, happier now - as yes, he did turn the second half of our season around. And yes, the receiver room looks SO much better now than last year.
My only gripe - well, that's actually two-fold is this.....
Its the FO fault in the first place because of their stupid - "Receiver by comity" after last years draft.
And, Man, its sucks being without anything to do but watch other teams draft last night. Wont lie, still don't feel warm and fuzzy about today either !
But having Cooper definitely makes us a better team.

You seriously think Amari is better than Odell freaking Beckham? Go back and look at his career stats for a refresher. He’s on an alltime pace, despite the injuries.

Sorry that is not correct. Amari Cooper is a great player but he would not have been the best of the players drafted last night. He is better than the 27th pick for sure.
Guys I like better
Nick Bosa
Quinnen Williams
Devin White
Josh Allen
Ed Oliver
Devin Bush
Jonah Williams

The trade turned out much better than I or anyone else expected. Even Jerry & Stephen didn't expect Cooper to come in ignite the team to a division title. They were looking at this as a move for the 2019 year. If I do have a regret, I would have loved to have swapped 2nd round picks or at least get a third in addition to getting Cooper and trading away our first pick.

With all due respect, I cannot see how we can compare Amari Cooper- a proven player that has been to three Pro Bowls- to a group of players who haven't even participated in a pro practice as of yet.

I hate to say this because the draft is a very special time for these players, but we almost certainly watched a handful of future busts get taken last night. Only time will tell who they are, but in Cooper, the Cowboys are certain of avoiding that trap.

One other thing is also certain- I am so happy Dallas has Cooper over any WR they would have had to take at 27 last night.

You are all right we got a top 5 pick in the draft that instead of costing us 24-26m over the next 4 years (and probably be 21-22 years old), we got a guy who will cost us 80-90m over the next 4 years, (and i doubt we get a 2nd contract from him because he will be 25 when the season starts). You all say we got a good deal i say we over payed for that top 5 guy and found another way that Dak is costing our team because we made the trade for him
you can never overpay for a guy that is an elite player and makes the team better. He made us better quickly last year. Its worth the cost easily. Whatever he wants, PAY HIM.

YES I happen to think Amari is better. What has Obj done lately? How long is he gonna cling to that Monday night 1 hand catch? HE VANISHES.

From the neck up, Cooper is better. Dallas has a go-to, all-pro quality receiver that, while he may not be as talented as OBJ, comes without the diva syndrome and all it's associated baggage.

Agreed 100 percent. Amari Cooper runs the sweetest routes I have ever seen. Not saying he's the best receiver ever, but I am saying Coop keeps defensive backs so off balance it's almost unfair. I love watching him play and I am still thrilled the Cowboys got him.

And about that Beckham catch- the NFL treats that thing like it was the game winning score in the Super Bowl. Beckham made that play in the second quarter of a game the Giants lost on a November night that dropped them to 3-8.

How do you compare a player that's been playing for a few years to unproven rookies?

If they'd had a re-draft of Cooper before that trade, I would bet he wouldn't have been taken as high as he was but after he showed up in Dallas, his stock went on the rise. We don't know how many teams Gruden shopped Cooper to with no takers for a 1st. The Cowboys were extremely high on the need side after seeing the results of that "we don't need no stinkin' #1WR" idiotic decision.

The reason I liked the trade was because they needed a #1WR and he was better than any they could have taken in this draft. But I wouldn't say he was the best player out of all those picked last night, only time will tell and one of those WR's may prove to be better in the long run but I am not a long run kinda guy, I kinda wanna win now.

This is pretty much my thoughts on the matter

AMARI COOPER. If he was in this years top 32 picks, he would have been the best pick by far...not even close. When analyzing the top 32 picks from day one, Cooper many would argue, was the best pick of the night if you factor in the trade we did to land him. Top 5 player easily. We actually got better last night after all the dominoes fell and when you look at who is available day 2. Its a win win for us.Thoughts?
The Cooper trade made us a better team last year and heading into this year but for one night they improved their roster while we sat idle.

Whose to say we had to have a 1st round type WR though?

We might have been better served using our 1st round pick like on a DL then taking a top receiver in 2nd round for example.

Minus the Cooper trade WR would have been the biggest need for Dallas last night. And the best receiver left on the board at 27 was N'Keal Harry, who went to the Patriots at 32.

The Cowboys won this draft last fall when they looked at the upcoming crop of receivers and decided Cooper was "worth the first".

Because this is a passing league, and the Cowboys can't trot out an Allen Hurns, Deonte Thompson, or Terrance Williams as their number one receiver and expect teams to fear their offense. The first seven games of 2018 taught us this.

couldn't agree more. Many haters on here don't agree...that's ok...we know what the true facts are.

Totally agree Rayman70, Cooper was worth the trade, what's the difference in trading a 1st for a 1st round talent vs picking a 1st round talent in the 1st round? Not much difference. I know there was a few people who had a conniption fit at first, but a lot of them have come around after seeing how good the guy is for our team.
Now if we can just get us a good 2nd round pick tonight...….:star:

This is a super-deep draft. We should get a good 2nd and a good 3rd round pick tonight. I'm finally excited for the draft.....

Yeah he cost more money, but not every draftee comes in NFL-ready. That's one reason they're cheaper when they first come in.
Cooper came in game-ready from the start and he's been proving it ever since he got here. We needed a quality WR and we got one, and it didn't take 2 or 3 years to groom him. Not only that, he seems to be a good team oriented guy.
I think it was a very good acquisition.
