An Argument In Zeke's Favor For A New Contract

Barkley had a better season than Zeke, what was the Giants record?

Giants no longer have the QB or defense. Adding to my point that the value of RBs dropped significantly due to what wins you games in this league. You go as far as the QBs arm takes you.

And despite McCaffrey's season, once Cam couldn't throw anymore, how many games did they win?

And Barkley like Zeke are generational backs, that is why I was mad at the Browns for not drafting him.

And Zeke had every darn defender's attention every single snap. It neutralized the offense and stressed the D because the DC's were right: there was no other weapon to fear, except for Dak's legs.
Then came Amari... Now defenders had to pay attention to another weapon worth respecting. Thus making the rest of the offense easier.
Even with the stale bread play calling. Which was also a hindrance to no end.

This is not surgery.

I just told that to my golden retriever and he shook his head up and down.

Zeke has all the leverage just like Emmitt did when he held out.
Cowboys should just sign him now so we aren't paying all the dead money when he gets past his prime in 3 or 4 years.

Zeke actually has very little leverage b/c he plays a position that is fairly easy to replace. Emmitt was the engine inside a defending super bowl champ when he held out...........and there was no salary cap in 1993. Very different situation.

LOL so we have Gurley, Barkley, and Zeke that are generational. Kinda growing on trees....

Those 3 are elite my friend. As long as Gurley does not start getting injured, I would say so because they are here to stay for awhile. And I still say we the better back on our team and don't want to hear Barkley out played zeke.

THere is a reason contracts are written the way they are written. Zeke has essentially a 5 year contract with TWO... yes TWO freaking years remaining. No way in hell should we sign him right now. Well hell, JVE and Smith kicked ***, why dont we just redo their deals right now also. Gallup did ok, lets do a deal for him also.

Rumor is Gurley has a knee issue... and it might be a knee issue that isnt going away. Rams will be not happy with that nice new deal they gave Todd.... EARLY. Guy under contract are under contract, you do not do a deal until they need one.

Question? How could a team not sign it's best player? It was said that Emmitt was a generational RB. It's a new generation with an old generation mentality. Tote the rock and other teams are starting to follow. Sure, let's be like them and learn from us :)
screw it.... why didnt we give Zeke a new deal after his rookie year? He far outplayed his contract, so tear up that underpaid deal and give him what he deserves???? Go ahead, and do that with all players and see how far over the cap you are.

Agree, and if that is a lingering deal then that will be his downfall and the rams will be on the hook. I am all down for waiting to do zeke's deal but it will be done.

It looks like Cowboys fans are divided on whether to sign Zeke now, later, or let him walk after the 2nd franchise tag.

But what about Zeke's perspective?

Zeke and the O-Line have been the heart and soul of the offense for 3 years. Probably among the top reasons for the Cowboys winning games. Along comes Amari Cooper who has played all of 11 games and is probably going to get signed for the going rate of WRs. I'm guessing between $16 -$18 million per year AAV. Zeke probably touches the ball at least 2 - 2 1/2 times more per game than Cooper. Probably makes things easier for Cooper by Zeke demanding more of the D's attention.

I know Cooper is in the last year of his contract. But, Zeke is eligible to have his contract renewed.

If you were Zeke:
How would you feel if an 11 game participant received a lucrative deal and you had to wait until next year, or the year after? Or play under a FT or 2 to get your guaranteed money? All the while accepting the injury risk. Hoping you don't sustain an injury that will effect your future earning potential.
Only thing is that Zeke will have made 35m thru next year as the 4th overall pick

Hard to cry poor or underpaid

Zeke will get his money one way or another if his agent is worth a crap. Yeah you can put in Rod Smith or Alfred Morris and even though the numbers look pretty decent statistically, we won't be the same team.

It has nothing do do with his position. It has everything to do with how our team is built and Zeke. Pollard and Weber will not produce Zeke's productivity and Dak can't carry the team at this point. And guess what? Dak is going to get paid too. We aren't going to pay these guys because we have all the leverage. We are going to pay them because we need them more than they need us.

Wow, you are really good at telling us what the Cowboys can't do this season without even letting them get to training camp. The thing is, despite having witnessed them fall short year after year, eventually they are bound to get it right. I prefer to let the season work itself out rather than writing them off in May, thank you. :)

C'mon, Nightman. You know it has nothing to do with "crying poor" It's about the guaranteed money and injury risk effecting that future guaranteed money.

Zeke is and will be our offense period as our passing game is for the dogs!
Everyone remember how it went when he got suspended?

Because until the addition of cooper, we were totally one dimensional. No rb can overcome such an impediment. Easy answer.

Nailed it and the same thing I wrote some time ago, unless my write-up was in some type of foreign language that I didn't know I could do.

No, this isn't how it works. I continue hearing that Zeke is what makes this offense move - if this was the case, we wouldn't have needed to bring in additional help to jumpstart our offense. (Zeke and Cooper were still part of our first shutout since 2003)

Being a run first team is a bit different than a single player being THE reason our offense moves. That clearly wasn't the case, Zeke is a very talented back, a great back - but he simply isn't a generational guy that carries a team on his back.

You don’t think our OL has anything to do with that? The firing of Alexander mid season may have been the biggest call of the year.

Yes teams continued to try and stack the box but Dak and Coop were able to make them pay.
Without Zeke they just double team Coop, ball game over.

Teams already started taking Cooper out of games last year while he was with us. Check out his stats with us his last 5 games including 2 playoff games

4 for 32 Indy
4 for 20 TB
5 for 31 Giants
7 for 106 Seattle (By the way Zeke ran for 136 in this game)
6 for 65 Rams

Cooper got off to an incredibly hot start with us but then teams started to adjust, it will be more of the same this season
