The regret will start the minute he puts ink to paper. Book it. It will be the biggest mistake in Jerry's career. Sadly...fans will have to suffer through yet another Jerry Jones bufoonery @ QB.

You would think after all these years....Jerry would get it. You get what you pay for @ the QB position. The Quincy Carter debacle....Drew Henson. A hope and a prayer..w/ Bledsoe..Ryan Leaf....Hutchinson. An undrafted QB in Romo...throwing 4th round hailmary's @ Dak.

Yet in Jerry's world...he thinks by throwing money @ a guy...it's going to make him legit. Doesn't work that way.

All this contract is going to do is hamstring this franchise for years to come. You won't be able to trade him. You won't be able to cut him. Your going to have to let good players walk because you can't afford to keep everybody.

It's just insanity....of the Al Davis type. :(

Jerry used the word investment to describe Dak as well. I think Jerry truly believes he can "create" an elite QB as like he believes he could mold a SB winning head coach (which is why we still have Garrett).

I do not deny the fact that Dak could still develop into a really, really good QB. But to date, he's not given anyone who is paying attention any real evidence to suggest that's definitely going to happen.

The smart, prudent move is to let him play out the 2019 season and see what kind of year he has. Jerry believes this is a SB contending team now. OK, so let's see how Dak navigates the season with what Jerry believes is a legit contender. If Dak does well, you sign him long term. If it costs you $3-4MM more per year, so be it. It's worth it. If he struggles, you've saved yourself from the anchor contract and you can either tag him to keep him around a couple of more years while you figure out what to do with the QB spot.

Or reality set in with these teams. Foles hasn't played a full season in years. He had a really hot streak in 2018 where he took the Eagles to the SB. He was decent last year but if you look at his playoff games, he was not very good. He's also over 30. His resume screams inconsistency.

The reality is the league thinks less of Nick Foles than fans seemingly think of him.

Well in reality you can throw out the 2015 season for the Rams given Jeff Fisher factor. Unfair to include those type of conditions for any QB.

Aside from that he has 61 TDs with 23 Int during the regular season and 11 TDs with 5 Int during the post season including a monumental performance against Tom Brady.

Throw in having to play in various offenses under various head/offensive coaches, that isn't too shabby.

30 years old.

You can't just throw out seasons. Great QBs would have played better under Fisher than he did. Foles has shown throughout his career he's wildly inconsistent. Even in the SB season, he had some real clunkers for games.

No one said he's a bad QB. But the reality is most teams don't view him as an elite QB. Ergo, he wasn't getting offers for elite contracts. The league and the market tell me way more about how good or bad a player is (or other issues with a player) than what fans think.

He was never going to approach the Drew Brees and like stratosphere of NFL contracts.

Frankly, his contract should be where the Cowboys start on Dak.

I do not consider him an elite QB.

How did other QB's get on in that Jeff Fisher offense and how did Todd Gurley get on in 2016?

My point is, if a solid, generally very good QB like Foles who just turned 30 years old is only getting 22 million (contract signed within past few months so recent) then why should Prescott earn around the $30 million dollar bracket?

A fool and his money are soon parted! There is absolutely no reason to get this deal done!
Except if you are sold on doing it. Waiting to do it at a later date will only cost you more money. Jerry has already stated he is sold on Dak Prescott. Delaying the counter offer only benefits Dak. That's a good agent Dak has. You seem to unintentionally agree with Dak's agent. :muttley:

Oh don't mistake my point, I am not arguing that Dak should be around the $30MM bracket. As I said, his contract should be way closer to what Foles got than what elite QBs are getting.

My only point is that I think fans think Foles is better than he really he is. The market told you he's not. Admittedly, I thought he would get closer to say $25-26MM per year. I think that's a good deal for the Jags.

What was it that Shannon Sharpe said once on undisputed? It's cool when you're making a little money and people don't expect much from you. It's totally different when you're the highest paid guy in the locker room and now you're expected to actually lead the team and put them on your back.

Denver was week 2 of '17...
He also had a good game against Washington in the stretch where he was bad. Obviously there’s one or two games within each stretch where he played good/bad, no one plays a full 16 great.

Using that game is pointless

Dak two TERRIBLE stretches of games in both 2017 and 2018. So much so, he was being rated as one of the worst starters in the league.

Yup, DLaw and his regards had like 1 sack his last 8 games.

That's not how the NFL views him or any site that watches more film than you will in your entire lifetime.

Dak is outside of the top 15 and right around where Carr and Mariota are.

So the downfall of the Cowboys begins. This wont hurt this coming season but give it a couple of years and watch how we lose good players all so we can pay a middle of the road QB like he is a top QB in the league.

And that middle of the road qb shows up in the 4th quarters and in the playoffs, unlike Zeke or the defense.

Hope he don’t have the same agent as D-Law. He will have Dak not throwing a football until demands are met.

DAK PRESCOTTQB, DALLAS COWBOYS

NFL Network's Jane Slater reports the Cowboys have offered Dak Prescott a contract and are waiting for a counteroffer.
Slater also reports that the two sides aren't "close" to a deal, but the Cowboys are "very comfortable with Dak (Prescott) being our future." Jerry Jones personally said he's "sold" on Prescott, so it appears that it's just a matter of getting the details straightened out. Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Clarence Hill said the Cowboys are comfortable paying Prescott a salary that approaches $30 million per year.

When romo resigned for big money it was a mistake from this fan base. When Dak resigns it will be a mistake. Until we have the first pick in the draft and draft number one rated qb out of college. Hell it’ll be a mistake then with cowboys nation lol idc who qb is win a damn ship already.

Don’t just hop in without reading the whole convo lol the original posts already indicated this. The second half of 2017 to the first half of 2018 was his 16ish game sophomore slump or whatever you wanna call it.

His rookie year and first half of 17’ along with the second half of 18’ are his good stretches.

He had 1 or 2 good games in his bad stretch and 1 or 2 bad games in his good, but for the most part this is the breakdown.

Because Romo kept getting injured. Wasn't because of his play.

What? Why waste a pick? We have bigger needs.
