I'm excited about this years defense. DLaw is signed and ready to lead the Hot Boyz. We have a added a true under tackle according to Marinelli. I really feel Quinn is going to have a big year. The secondary under coach Richard should at least maintain where they were last season. We had a very young secondary. We have a very young team period. The group I'm most excited about are the Linebackers. Smith and LVE I think will both reach the pro bowl this season. Sean Lee will still play at a high level and wont take as many snaps. Hopefully he will benefit healthwise and last the whole season. Those guys made a huge difference the whole season. Sean Lee is actually excited about playing with/behind those two.

They're calling Lee the SLB; however, he likely plays what many coaches would call WLB.

In the photo, Vander Esch is the WLB in Marinelli's terms, but many coaches would call Vander Esch the SLB in this alignment with #48 Thomas as the WLB.

When the Cowboys play 3 LBs sets (base), it is likely to look similar to the photo with Lee in place of #48 Thomas.

With all 3 on the field at the same time, would that trio make them the best LB corp in the league?

Couldn’t we have figured this this last year?
Based on Lee's play last year he either wasn't healthy or is effectively done being worthy of playing too many snaps. I don't know how it would have been smart to have him on the field (possibly in a new position) more.

Lee can't run anymore, but his diagnosing and shedding will allow him to be effective as the SAM. I think they're very deliberately going to put LVE in position to run and use his athleticism, not get lost in the wash on the playside. .

If Lee is close to his previous abilities, they will likely play a bit more 3 LBs sets (i.e. Stay in base against 3 WR sets when the offense is equally likely to run or pass).

Anytime Lee played prior to 2018, he was the coverage LB that played in 1 LB sets as well as 2 LB sets and 3 LB sets.

In 2018 Damien Wilson was the starting SLB. He averaged playing 28% of the defensive snaps which is basically how often they played 3 LB sets.

In the playoffs, Wilson played 18% against the Seahawks and 13% against the Rams.

It won't be more.

Last season, in games where he was healthy and started, he averaged playing about 66% of the snaps.

They used the SLB on about 28% of the snaps in 2018.

Lee playing about 28% of the snaps is the ideal situation.

He'll play enough to stay in true game shape, but the limited snaps will limit his chances for injury.

Staying in game shape will be good if Vander Esch or Jaylon miss any snaps and Lee is needed to replace one of them (short term).

Everyone is healthy (they won't be) and Hill is what they think he is, our Front Seven could be dominant:

LBs - LVE, Jaylon, Sean Lee

LDE - DLaw, Crawford, Armstrong
3T - Collins, Hill, Crawford
1T - Woods, Covington
RDE - Quinn, Taco, Gregory
