Of course, but obviously decisions have to be made during games. Coaches can’t write a script and rehearse as if it’s a play with all the lines and movements known in advance. Teams call timeouts all the time when the play clock is winding down, whether it is a FG situation or just getting a play off on 1st, 2nd or 3rd down. And clearly players don’t always get set. If they did there would never be penalties for that. I’m sorry, but fans can’t bury their head to the fact that even though teams practice and set game plans, there are still adjustments and decisions and reactions that take place during games.
Your right , but for that instance JG was not paying attention to what was going on in the field, and there was no good reason to be looking at the playsheet at that
point.
he was doing that, and another coach ran up and told him to call TO, if he had been looking at what he should have been looking at, he might have not called that time out, or he could have done it earlier than he did, so there would be no first kick.

Worrying about not getting set in time is why they were worried about the clock running out and getting the penalty. Admittedly they should have gotten out and lined up more quickly after the ball was spiked.
Hence the bad coaching all the way around and it cost them a playoff berth.

Can we get some video evidence of other coaches icing their own kicker or is Garrett alone on that? You could go all the way back to the leather helmet days, college, high school, pee wees? Just 1 other example. lol

It really doesn’t matter. If he makes the kick it’s all mute. Missing the kick provides for the over analyzing and second guessing. Such is sports..

My memory as it was unfolding was Romo didn’t appear to have a sense of urgency in that situation. Now whether that was him or uncertainties from sidelines we don’t know.

It was an unfortunate situation which most importantly I think Garrett learned from as it’s never happened again.
It should have never happened the first time. That was a once in a life time gaff even Garrett is not dumb enough to repeat.

Winning coaches who have confidence in themselves. Definitely not Garrett.
i certainly can’t think of any who publicly admit their mistakes usually making excuses instead.

Landry never admitted to a bad call. Always said it was poor player execution. I don’t recall Jimmy or Bill admitting mistakes. Barry admitted he made a mistake carrying a gun on the plane? Lol

The “icing his kicker” criticism is maybe the stupidest criticism of Garrett’s coaching that ever been circulated. And that’s saying something with this fan base.

It's the fact that the "icing" was caused by numerous coaching blunders in that last minute

That’s true. He blew that final offensive series with a timeout in his pocket.

But when your ST wants a timeout on the game winning kick and asks for it and you’ve got one left, you use the timeout. The fact that he made the practice kick and missed the game winner is irrelevant.

Again, the stupidest thing he ever did was in the Green Bay game in 2013. The Cowboys had a great running game going and a first half lead of 26-3. Then Garrett abandons the run in the second half and allowed the Packers to come back and win the game--with Matt Flynn playing QB. The Cowboys only ran the ball 7 times in the second half which has to be one of the biggest blunders of any coach. He should have been fired that day, but Jerry still had hopes of him winning the next two games and winning the division, which of course didn't happen.

Making or missing the kick is irrelevant but bad coaching cost us the win and a playoff birth. No matter how you slice it

Was that the game where he threw Callahan under the bus for playcalling afterward? Where we lost the two MLBs in the second quarter and they went back to trying to score with the passing game? I get the embarrassing GB losses confused.
