They better extend the number you can carry on your roster.

Also, this will change every statistic.

I heard speculation by Florio that this was negotiation to get to 17 with neutral site games to grow the game in Europe, Mexico, and Tokyo.

They would more than likely agree to decrease the number of preseason games. If they went from 4 to 2, I would be all for that. Much rather see regular season games then preseason.
I enjoy the preseason games. Not only is it a chance for bubble players to make an impact but you get to see guys develop and how they are coming along. Some guys don't get playing time in the regular season and this is a way to show what they have learned.

I understand those that only want 2 preseason games though.

I enjoy it, but not beyond a few games or a half or two. I don't enjoy the 2nd half when its just guys that wont make the roster. Seeing a rookie here and there is great. And most guys that are preseason studs, rarely show up in the regular season anyway. Its all misleading because most guys are playing against scrubs.

This is leaning towards the "compromise" of a 17 game regular season with 2 bye weeks per team (so still get 2 extra regular season weeks from a TV perspective).

The 17th game for each team will be a neutral venue game overseas (or possibly in a US city without a franchise) thus eliminating one team having to give up a home game to play overseas.

This would only help special teams. It's not like additional players are going to start in place of Dak, Zeke, Tyron, Martin, LVE etc, in those extra two games.

There isn't this pool of NFL-ready players waiting to start in the NFL if not for the roster limits.

If anything, they need to cut the seasons back to 14 games. That would extend a lot of careers.

18 regular season games, 2 preseason games.

The players clearly are doing to have some big demands so the owners are already setting the bar high for what they want.
While I don't think pre-season games are as entertaining, they're essential for the staff to evaluate new or young players and building a final roster. 4 is barely enough.
On top of that, 2 regular games are just going to beat the players more.

Two more regular games are going to put more wear on the players. My comment was in regard to extending the roster for reserve purposes.

If I'm a player under the current salary and I'm expected to play two more games I better be getting an increase in pay. No player in their right mind would agree to anything less.
Very risky otherwise and being healthy is their bread & butter.

That being said, I'm such fan of football that I would love to see more games, but there needs to be roster, salary changes and an extra bye week. IMO

I know, which is why I said it would only help special teams. There aren't players out there that can alleviate the wear on starting caliber players.

My fear is that the league will offer the NFLPA a 12.5% salary increase across the board, and they will take it.

This could mean 22 games on Zeke's legs if they made the Super Bowl. That's almost two full seasons in Jim Brown's day.

It would help the entire team if there were more reserve players to rotate in or play if a player gets injured. Not just special teams.

Extending the season or watering down the roster talent by expanding the size will both result in a weaker product.

The football season is too short. Two extra games with an extra bye week would be awesome.

Go and give each team three bye weeks for all I care. I want football to last longer!
agree, and I dont want to hear how dangerous it is. There will always be gladiators that want to play. Hockey players take a beating as well. The extra 2 games is coming... its inevitable. If you feel it is too long for you, skip 2 games.

I imagine they would reduce preseason to 2 games, and if so it will still be the same number of games, so I doubt the owners will concede that point.

There will likely have to be some concession by the owners when negotiating a new CBA though.

The USFL played 18 games and I don't remember everyone getting hurt all the time.

However, this could easily be nothing more than a bargaining point. Players keep wanting more more more, so to get it the NFL says play more games then.

If they want 18 games they need to cut the PS by 2 games, add another Bye Week and about 15 players to the game day roster

2 byes, roster size 65. It’s better than preseason which isn’t even worth watching. 2 games is enough. Ridiculous that the 2 teams in the HOF game actually play 5?

They told the players the same thing last time and they were still calling their reps wanting it to end. It won't be any different than last time. MAYBE 2 games and they'll cave.

The NFL is shoveling the money down, and the players received a pretty small portion. This time, they will be prepared. They have been warmed by the Players Association, to be ready for a period without pay after next season. The word is out, to show up or shut up...

Playing in a regular season game is completely different than a preseason game. The starters barely play. Reducing the 4 preseason games is a mistake. There's not exactly all sorts of time to build a roster as it is.

NFL minimum is over half a mil, and players making double digit millions is common, and you're still complaining about pay?

Sure preseason games are different, but they are not off days. It's not as if taking away a preseason game is the equivalent of taking away vacation time and adding work days. Besides, some starters do play quite a bit during preseason, and even those that don't still have to be there and could play every down if the team chose.
