Rebel without a cause 3/10 Loved Dean in Giant, hated this movie, he's constantly whinging.
Can someone who adores this movie please tell me what I'm obviously missing?
I don't love it but Dean, Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo were a strong draw at that time. I first saw that movie on a Friday night with a bunch of fellow teenagers, the target audience and we didn't get it. But James Dean was magic, a real shooting star. He was the next Brando.

I thought it was great movie especially for it's time. Before that most troubled kids in movies came from broken homes where parents were abusive, or came from the wrong side of the tracks or were raised by morally questionable parents. They generally weren't portrayed coming from seemingly normal families. Post war society was changing, rise of the middle class, kid's wanting to fit in and kids lashing out for attention. I think it was harder for parents to understand it at the time, because they generally came from a different era, out of the Great Depression, then WW2, where it was just a struggle for families to survive and endure. It's a pretty normal story now, but it wasn't then. Rebel really laid out the template for future teen angst movies.

I don't condone either story. Two wrongs don't make a right in my opinion.
Just came back from Godzilla.
First thing: I knew it was going to be bad. I tell my W. partner repeatedly that one of the hardest things to do is make a great giant monster movie.
It's so difficult. A decent writer wants to make a compelling story with characters and growth and conflict and then they have to deal with this impossible giant creature roaming about the screenplay.
So I went in with the thought that this is what it is and try try try to enjoy it through the stupid moments.
This movie actually had some potential, but it also had 1001 really bad issues.
One? Laziness. Why guys? Why go with the corniest lines any one could come up with? Why run with the tropes that have been used a zillion times before for the small moments that could have made a huge difference with just a little bit of effort?
The young girl reminded me of Natalie Portman from Leon. Use her better! She looked like she could actually act!

Every single tension moment was thwarted by a convenient last second save you saw coming. Come on... Let some peeps die. Nobody was that important.

I had a moment where I laughed out loud and it was awkward. I'll try not to spoil the scene:
There's a moment when Dr. Serazawa (sic) has to do something and the movie got quiet and I could hear all this sniffling and choking on breaths in the theater.
It wasn't even anything that was built! It was not emotional and the character was not very likeable, or have a strong place in the films, but some peeps just are like that.
So I laughed out loud.
Whoops.

I liked Fatzilla- he was more buff and intimidating this film. I liked "Monster Zero" and I loved that they used that term from Godzila Vs Gigan from '72/'77.
Nice touch. Lots of nods to the old Godzilla stuff.
I liked the other monsters. I have no idea where that gigantic woolly mammoth came from, but it was my fave.

All in all, it was fan service and you really had to shut down the common sense part of your brain to enjoy it, but DAMN!
Maybe it was the writers... maybe it was the director...
Probably was the producers, but man- what cornball lines and moments! Slap in the face moments.
Like whoa, you really went there?

Edit: I liked the actors better this film than the last.
I still have zero idea why they nixed Cranston early and kept that weepy Toby Maguire lookalike in the last film.
Ageism. I would have offed Toby like a hot potato and had the family and Cranston pick up the pieces as everything is crashing down around them.

I haven't seen it, nor do I plan to....but could it be that the corny lines were meant to make sure nobody thought they were taking this movie seriously when they made it?...A kind of disclaimer, so they could say, "We meant for it to be corny."?

Silverado: I give it a solid 6 for a post golden age of westerns. It is one of my favorites. I really can't wait to watch the kid when it hits Netflix.

I wish it was a purposeful thing, but no. It wasn't. It was pandering in the laziest way.

Between these films and the Pacific Rim movies, I can't help but to think that they feel that if they have "big monsters" they have to have "small words and ideas".

I refuse to watch the second Pacific Rim movie. The first one was like a big budget Power Rangers. The final battle, he's getting his butt handed to him, and just before the monster destroys him, he decide to use the giant friggin' sword.

Good decision. The second one makes the first look highbrow by comparison.

I have not seen the movie but the young woman I believe you are mentioning is Millie Bobby Brown. Like you, I have gotten the exact same Portman/Leon: The Professional vibe from her and posted just that several times on the forum.

You may not have had an opportunity to watch Stranger Things on Netflix if you do not recognize her. She plays the telekinetic Eleven on the show. In my opinion, one of the best qualities of a very good actor is radiating strong screen presence either speaking or while silent. This young lady is strong with the force in both qualilties.

I have not seen the show. Very interesting to know.
She totally gives off that vibe. Just her presence.

*note to self: that Corso fellow has got the proverbial fingertips on the output main vein, in his overall diagnosis,,, therefore, I should attempt to appear in the exhibition, a more better forum persona.

Finally watched the movie "Rush" from 2013. It was directed by Ron Howard and had Chris Hemsworth, Daniel Bruhl, Olivia Wilde and Natalie Dormer had a small part(but it was a good part.....;)) The movie is based on the rivalry between two F1 drivers in the '70's, James Hunt and Niki Lauda. Both actors really looked similar to Hunt and Lauda too. Both were driven on the track, but Hunt was more of a partier, laid back off the track and Lauda was very methodical and serious. The story was pretty straightforward and the race scenes were pretty good, I would have liked more race scenes though. Good movie for race fans, especially from that era, but still watchable for others. 7.5/10

MIB - International: Yeah, this was pretty bad. Terrible editing. Terribly boring plot. Random scenes that serve no purpose (guess that's terrible editing too). A poor "main" character in M (Tessa Thompson). And it's just not very funny.

I was never a fan of the series before, but I still expected a little better than this.

The only thing even remotely decent was Hemsworth's performance.

That was the impression I got from the trailer...though I liked the first two.
