Rookie contracts, by definition, underpay players, relative to the market. The NFLPA wanted it because it's run by veterans and allows them to get a bigger piece of the pie. The Owners want it because it gives them cost control over players.

The only say rookies have is holding out - and Zeke is right to do it, as is Melvin Gordon, to a lesser extent. We're going to start seeing this with quarterbacks sooner than later.

Rookie contracts are a great idea because you have no idea what you are getting until they play against NFL talent. Look at one of the last rookie contracts signed before the most resent CBA. Look at Sam Bradford and JaMarcus Russell’s contracts. The best thing the NFL and Players Association ever did.

What's it going to be then, eh?

This is kind of what happens when you say a player is the straw that stirs the drink.

Hes the best in the NFL.

That Rookie contract is toast.

Jerry will pay him or he doesn't play.

Let someone else win the rushing title this year.

You obviously don’t understand why a rookie pay scale was but into place. Rookie contracts are a great idea and allowed more money to go to players that have proved themselves because you have no idea what you are getting until they play against NFL talent. Again Zeke will get his!

See Emmitt in 1993.

They paid him.

After we went 0-2

Again comparing the early 90s to today's NFL is kind of silly.

Further, Dak is an all world QB that should be paid $32MM+. That alone should allow us to compromise on the TB.

If this franchise gets held hostage by a TB, who frankly has been as much a pain in the butt off the field as a stud on it, that's embarrassing.

Its the lesson that was learned many years ago.

You pay elite RB's what they are worth.

Jerry remembers.

He'll pay Zeke.

Or we can struggle to another 0-2 start.

Either way, Zeke will be paid. It just a matter of how much pain Jerry wants to experience.

Two things, you do know he can’t hold out after Aug 9th or he loses is vested year towards FA. And secondly see LaVeon Bell.

But I see you are going to beat a dead horse so I’m done trying to help educate you on the economics of the NFL.

Unrestricted FA began in March 1993. Maybe Smith was some how grandfather in but it began in 1993

I'm not sure we could call what Emmitt did a holdout. I don't think he was under contract after 1992. I could be wrong, but I think the dispute was what his new contract was going to be going forward. He wanted big money and Jerry didn't want to pay it. But I don't think he had any years left on his contract.

I think the facts are plain to see.

Zeke is the best RB.

His money ranks him #10 in the NFL.

He's won 2 rushing titles in 3 seasons.

I think going 0-2 and not showing up would be considered a hold out.

it also worked.

Jerry paid him.

In 1993, after the Reggie White case, unrestricted free agents with 5 years of service were allowed to change teams. Emmitt had only 4 years of service following his rookie contract.

That 5 year limit was reduced to 4 eventually, but I don't recall the year.
