The Case Against Extending Elliott

And that’s the most settling factor. Zeke isn’t just going to let his final 2 years of his contract play out.

I’m not sure we anticipated this. I think it’s certainly caught the fan base off guard. We have been so focused on paying Dak, Cooper and others we thought we had at least next year and maybe longer.

And even if we decided not to extend when time came we’d have his talent helping us win and possibly reaching our goals.

But this has all come to an abrupt halt if Elliott is demanding to be paid now or sit. It changes everything in how we manage the cap signing Prescott and Cooper pending our decision with Elliott. Not to mention the effects on the season if he sits out.

And the fact we’ve heard nothing might mean it’s caught everyone else off guard too. Shoot, just a week or so ago we weren’t sure if he’d be suspended or not. But this changes everything. Wow just wow
I think this is more of a negotiation kick in the *** move by his agent. It’s just part of the process. All these yahoos getting their panties in a wad over this are just yahoos getting their panties in a wad. The Cowboys are going to get contracts done with both Dak and Zeke. But it is entertaining to watch the usual suspects get all worked up over it.

So, you think our front office was prepared for Elliott wanting to be paid now or sitting out?

I had Whataburger today. :D
What did you think? Going downhill yet? I heard they’re serving the burgers in boxes now?

I banned What A Burger about 2-3 years ago. Long story short, it hurt me but it was all about the A-1 Think ‘N Hearty. I lifted my ban when they brought it back about 6 months to a year ago and now the ban is back in place since they did away with it.

Screw What A Burger, I go to In N Out for my late night drunken burger binges but I do miss the breakfast items.

Just because I'm saying trade him doesn't mean I'm talking about trade him now. I want him to play under his rookie contract this coming season. The problem is he is threatening to hold out of training camp. To that I say let him hold out as long as he wants to. He's only hurting himself if he holds out into the season. Then we do what you suggest, trade him at the end of the season. I bet we can get a couple of 1st round picks for him.
You can’t have it both ways. Either trade him now or later. He seems to want to hold out from everything we’ve heard. He hasn’t come out and say anything different. Stephen has said he wants to extend Zeke. So it’s prudent to do it now in his prime years. Letting him hold out as long as he wants as you say that he only hurts himself is ridiculous. It hurts the entire team. Not only on the field but off. Maybe you weren’t around when #22 held out and Haley literally busted out the locker room wall and screamed “sign him now!”. Team chemistry is more important than anything. Madden fans don’t get that.

I don’t thing anything. The FO has stated that they want to extend Zeke immediately after the season was over. It’s been stated in black and white.

The fan/media focus should be on who would replace Zeke more than on other issues in this debate.

They probably don't have that player on the roster right now.

Pollard:
I'm a big fan of the pick as an offensive weapon with a versatile skill-set; however, I don't know if he projects to being a lead NFL RB.

Weber:
He was pick #218 in the draft. He appears to have some talent but it's not a lock that he'll even make the 53 man roster this season.

Zeke is under contract for 2 more seasons.
Actually holding out of regular season games is NOT likely to happen.
Le'Veon Bell lost 14.5M and didn't gain anything by skipping 2018.
A) Nobody is saying replace Zeke this year. The focus on who will replace him is simple... A mid round rb next year in a loaded class.

B) Bell gained a year of respite from the rigors of the position. Very few industries allow, and very few workers can demand that they take an entire year off because they refuse to work without a raise and then come back and get to sign a deal of their choosing.

C) I don't know why this never comes up in Zeke discussions... But Zeke wasn't that good last year. Yes the counting stats look great. Nope no issue with the YPC. But when any analysis tries to divorce the rb from the offensive line Zeke's value plummets. He doesn't break long runs. He doesn't force many missed tackles.

Run Zeke into the Ground.... I mean MVP conversation.... Tag him. Trade him. Learn from this mistake.

My local Whataburger is still as good as ever. Burger still came wrapped in the yellow and white paper, no box. The O-rings still cooked perfect.

Also, go back and watch the Rams game again. Most backs would have had negative yardage on those 20 carries. They were simply destroying our OL.
You are soooo close to realizing why we shouldn't pay Zeke.

Don't give up. Don't ever give up.

What is both ways? If he holds out then he gets traded... at the end of the season. So you would want to hold on to a player that hurts the whole team? Your words not mine. Not me, I say trade him.

Huh, interesting, I’m gonna have to do a little more investigating. I’m not sure if it’s a regional thing they’re rolling out or maybe they just happened to run out of paper at the store this person went to. I figured the yellow paper was pretty iconic, that would be a horrible decision to do away with it but with the buy out and all...who knows.

But but...he had the most yards in the entire league!

One of those Superbowls was with Tony Dorsett. Surely one of the best running backs in his time. Three more were with Emmitt Smith. The best running back of all time.

The first Superbowl win was with Dan Reeves, Walt Garrison, Duane Thomas and Calvin Hill. Surely a running back by committee.

Your assertion about the Superbowls was absurd,

Salary Cap.

I keep laughing at this boat load we would get in a trade for a RB (a position devalued by much of the league) who is one strike from a missed season and wants to be paid as the top RB in the league. I'd like to meet this fictional team that is going to give up the world because I have some land to sell them.

For the same reasons people want to trade him, other teams won't want to make that deal. I'm not saying he has no value, just not what you would expect for a fourth-year back who is a two-time rushing champ. He's worth way more to Dallas, even for 1 or 2 seasons, than he is for any other team at this point.
There is value in simply not paying Zeke.

Not paying Zeke and getting only his rookie contract out of him brings to mind the old poker adage.... "folding is only a small mistake."

In our case drafting Zeke was a mistake. Premium draft resources. Premium dollars. Short time of production from devalued position.

Why compound the mistake and go for broke with a massive bluff raise?

Said more simply.... Not paying Zeke and getting ANYTHING for him is a massive victory.

Paying Zeke big money is a victory also... A pyrrhic one

Glad you are not the GM.

Zeke will be paid. He's only 24[next week].

Estimated new contract: [based on TGurley's 4 yr/57.5 million 21 million bonus contract]

4 years 65 million. 25 million signing bonus. Note: I don't think he will take 60. It's to close to Gurley's deal.

avg salary 16.25 per year.
