I'm hearing even Rico Gathers is looking better so far. A hard decision might have to be made on Witten if the young TEs keep showing much more improvement.

Witten should be attuned to a guy like Jarwin, who appears to respect him enough to listen and learn his secrets. Let's hope Witten, in return, respects Jarwin enough to allow him to get the reps he needs to maximize his effectiveness. The same thing holds true for Schultz. There are things Witten can do to help him that should equal or better what he might be able to do himself. The time is both right and ripe for Jason to realize as much.

I agree, but what will Garrett do? This situation should be interesting.
I think Garrett will do whatever Jerry tells him to do. If Jerry feels more sentimental and wants Witten to play the majority of snaps then Witten will play the majority of snaps. I don't think for a moment that Garrett has anything to do with it.

Jarwin was coming on last year and he has been working with Dak in the off season. This is really good news!

I'd say you're right. Jerry is, and has long been, a devoted fan to somewhat over-the-hill vets like Witten. Jerry should know enough to encourage Witten to temper his desire to "Bogart" the number of reps that he's enjoyed in the past and permit the youngsters like Jarwin and Schultz to develop. Otherwise, offensive production might easily be adversely affected in the long run. No doubt . . . if Jerry wills it to happen, it will certainly happen! ;)

I've said from the start that this is about Witten moving into a coaching role.
He expressed interest in coaching before and after the MNF gig.
They asked him back during the season last year.

I hated it when we were 3rd and 5 yards and he always stopped at 2 or 3 yards, caught the ball but couldn't get the 1st.

...and yet, just mentioning that in a sarcastic manner is supposedly wishing the team to fail. Some people on this site are so blinded by devotion they can't discern the difference between a legitimate concern being made, and an attack on the team.

Everyone runs circles around Witten until the game starts.

Quit living in the past. That's simply not true anymore. Witten was the Sloth that continually got tackled 2 to 3 yards short of the first down on 3rd and 5 before "retiring".

People are reading way too much into this.

Witten didn’t come back to take 50-60 snaps a game on offense. He said around 20. So he starts and plays a few series then Jarwin and Schultz take the majority of the snaps.

Good problem to have. It’s a bad problem if they force feed Witten to play 85+% of the snaps

That's the best news I've heard in a long time. Hopefully he's our next great TE.
Agree, I’m a huge Witten fan, but that’s great news. Hopefully it’s more about Jarwin’s improvement and not so much about JW’s decline. Win-win.
