You can give a guy overconfidence that he is going to get the big bucs. He then automatically expects more. If you keep it close to the vest then you create more doubt. Doubt creates uncertainty which can create lower expectations. Then there are the guys like you said who just want it no matter what.
You feel that with Zeke though? That may work with Byron but Zeke?

JERRY didn't create this Monster on his own. THE CBA ..free agency and such did. Everyone on all sides deserve the credit...BLAME if you will. Until that gets fixed in the next CBA...this has the potential to happen more and more.

Until there is actually guaranteed contracts like other sports, this will never stop. These players have very little protection and peace of mind. They know they can be cut at any time and they are only owed the portion that was guaranteed, which was not even close to the full value of the contract. Which is why in the NFL, the full value of the contract is meaningless. It's just the yearly salaries, cap hit and guaranteed money.

...now he doesn't know whether to slay it or feed it!
Jerry going around and telling every open mic that we were going to sign Dak, Coop and Zeke. What did he expect? If he doesn't sign these guys it's gonna be a long tension filled season. Zeke gets signed and Dak doesn't, I don't think Dak will be happy and vice versa. He needs to find a way to sign them all before the season. IMO

Jones has said that the Cowboys will sign all 3 but he's also said publicly said several times Prescott is 1st, followed by Cooper because their contracts are up after this season and then Elliott because he still has 2 years left under contract. In their private talks with Elliott's agent I'm sure the Cowboys bring up Elliott's off season troubles and his suspensions and the length of the next one.

i love how you guys want to blame jerry because he said he wants to give contracts to the top 3 players on the roster with expiring contracts in the next 1-2 years....do you honestly think that was a secret or surprise to anyone? come on, this is ridiculous.

zeke's agent , rocky , got jerry between a rock and a hard place .

jerry wont appreciate this .

You have that wrong. The Cowboys have Elliott. If he sits out he looses an accrued year making him a restricted free agent when his contract is up. This will make it much harder to get the contract he's looking for not to mention any team that may be interested will also take Elliott's off season troubles and suspension into account. Not know when the next suspension will happen for either 10 games or an entire season.

:) Now, despite the above, would you consider adding Eric Berry at safety, and defensive tackle DT Robert Nkemdiche? No fair - slobbering, chuckling, and then stating...no.;)

Jerry may not appreciate it but @Ranching is right in that he and his dopey son have been telling the world their intentions when they didn't have to say anything, and now they'll look like fools if they don't follow through. They can't resist an open mic and just say "we'll do what's in the best interest of the Dallas Cowboys."

"Never tell anyone outside the family what you're thinking." - The Godfather

Neither Jones EVER said Elliott was their number 1 player to resign. They have said they will but they've also have said several times publicly that Prescott is their #1 priority then Cooper because both of their contracts are up after this season and Elliott's is after 2 more seasons.

Elliott has two years left...right? Does he really want to push for two years on the sidelines?

I think Cooper doesn't care to be locked up ASAP because of that.

He sees that market possibly blowing up over 20mil AAV this offseason or next. Wait a bit till guys exceed OBJ's deal and then ask for a bit more over. Especially if he has another good year here.

It's a big game.

Cooper is taking a risk.

If he gets hurt and has to miss games/season, then he is seriously risking his future $$$.

He's playing on a tag. But nothing else.

2019 - 3.8 million
2020 - 9 million option [can be waived by Dallas if Zeke is injured before the league year starts in 2020.]

Thats it. No more bonus $$$.

Thanks for a discussion, guy...

Zeke has a lot going for him. He just doesn't need to get too greedy. He can help 'the cause' a little.

What is "Does he really want to push for two years on the sidelines?"? I have no idea what you're trying to say with that.

Maybe Elliott knows as long as Garrett is HC there will be no rings so his holdout is
an attempt to accelerate termination of "the process".

The only mistake so far was not getting Cooper done ASAP.

The WR market is about to get stupid and Elite WR's really aren't helping teams win Championships anyways.

Dak will be the one that hurts if he gets stupid money but I feel better about it now when listening to Stephen because he mentions giving him a contract that allows them to have good players around him.

Coop didn't want to sign until MT and Julio do/did.

Im sure we made an offer but without setting the market that offer isn't going to be desirable enough for Coop to sign. Now that its set, I expect Coop to be signed soon, although who knows how Zeke's hold out effects Coops deal.

You can bet every owner and GM in the league is sitting back and laughing at those fools. Neither can just keep their mouths shut and just love being attention ****** while the subjects of their talk are quiet while with their agents talk with the two magpies behind closed doors.

These agents, while one is not very experienced, all know what Booger did when they were entering into negotiations with Romo's agent. He gave them the nails and climbing into the coffin and not only did his statement jack the price, it forced him into a draft alteration with regards to OL, a good thing.

The latest is Booger spouting off that this deal with Elliott could take months, does he know why? The old fool shot his mouth off about Elliott's attributes and the agent's meter started running and he can dig in deeper because of those remarks. Want to say nice things about his little buddies, wait until after they sign like he said Romo will play better now that he's paid better. Might just be the dumbest thing he's said in a long, long line of dumb things.

The irony of this is that I was beginning to think he was coming around, learning and growing into that GM job and getting better at it but I think I might have given him too much credit.
