Good for Zeke. He should get his money while he can.
It's foolish to not get the 5 or whatever it is million this year. He can skip this season miss out on 5 million but must show up next year if he wants to become a FA. It's foolish.
But yes he should try to get a bigger contract. I don't think what he's doing right now is foolish. But sitting out this season would be dumb.

The source added that at this time, it is not likely that Elliott's holdout continues into the regular season, based on the belief that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wants to get a new deal done with the running back before Week 1.
Jerry has said that, but I wonder if that is just the company line or does he really believe it.

Does Jerry know how serious Zeke is about this? Is Jerry misreading the situation?

As I said, the defenses was allowing the running yards to pile up because they was running time out. That tends to make the YPA look good. That was a bad year for the entire offense, or I should say lack of offense.

The offensive line still showed that they made the running game go. And that they made running backs, not the other way around.

If only!

I personally don't think you could find another GM that would do it.

Not with having to then pay him a boatload of money, and then having to worry about his next off-field adventure.

I can't see a GM willing to risk his career on that.

I think some team would give a first for Zeke.

I guarantee our OL wants Zeke back more than anyone else. He makes them look as good as they make him look.

They didn't "miss him" when they never had him, when they were making running backs like Murray and Randle/McFadden.

The investment has been made up front. By extension, running back should be the position where you can go light and still have success. You shouldn't have to heavily invest in a star running back if you have a top offensive line. That was exactly the point made when people were saying drafting Elliott at #4 overall was a luxury and not a necessity.

In the context I was replying he was.

Well that would be an awful plan by whoever thought of it. No one running back is going to replace Elliott and it would be foolish to try. And I don't think anyone would.

If we like who we have so much, then why not just pay the man and get this distraction out of the way?

You're going to pay him anyway.

I don't blame him, he needs to do what he thinks is best for his camp. Having said that, I hope the Cowboys don't cave, it will set a terrible presidence.
