The greatness of "ignore"

Not according to some, I've had some people get in my face here but I am not going to ignore them. In fact, one that did react strongly from the get go, had I put him on Ignore, it would have been a mistake as I've come to learn more about him and I like him and see where he's coming from more now.

We can all disagree but remain agreeable people. People come here for different reasons and some that come with a negative vibe are not selling, they want to buy some positive but they need some help. Every true fan would like to be positive about the season, they're not trying to rain on the parade.

Look the drunk cat picture is a classic. Hard to get really mad at a guy that introduces that knee slapping visual.

I don't think I have anyone on ignore. I think an obnoxious skin fan made me really think hard about it. When the debate turns nasty, I just think back to those funny point counterpoint gags on SNL between Jane Curtin and Dan Akroyd.

Not a big believer in the concept in general.

But I have an exclusive club numbering just two members. Sometimes when I am liquored up and want to fight, I take them off.

Reminds me of the Black Mirror episode. Wish I could do it in real life sometimes to very stupid people.

I have never used it, either on the old DC.com or here. I assume it's been used against me, as I've been threatened with that like it's the Dreaded Black Veil of Death so I figure if they put me on Ignore, I don't have to ignore them.

I came to the old site and this one with the same expectations, a little bit of everything and everybody and some hurt feelings, misunderstandings and tempers flaring, all part of the experience.

And if I put someone on Ignore, what am I going to miss? If I didn't put a poster who's life's mission was to get in my face on Ignore on the old site, there's no one here I would want to do that to and I don't have to read everything and certainly don't have to respond.

I look at Ignore as surrender. Can't deal with that person or they frustrate beyond self-control so just make them not exist. LMAO, if only I had a real life Ignore button.

It's pointless to debate with inflexible minds that can't understand nuance or adapt to any sort of situational change. It's got to be either this or that with them, with nothing in between. They can't evolve or change their opinion no matter what, regardless of what happens.

For me on this site, it's those that base all opinions and arguments solely on numbers or personal agenda. Take Dak, who's the big subject here always. It's either "Dak is awesome" or "Dak sucks." Both opinions are ridiculous. I understand leaning one way or the other. I understand optimism or pessimism creeping in. I understand hoping for the best or being cynical by nature. I'm bearish on Dak, but fully willing and hoping to think otherwise one day. Others are more bullish, but still with a critical eye on what happens next. That's interesting to debate.

Sure, I'm less likely to "ignore" somebody if they're spouting nonsense that leans the direction of my general opinion but goes beyond that to absurdity. But that doesn't mean I take their opinion very seriously. They're far too dug in to change. It's easy to ignore them without officially ignorning them, if that makes sense.

But those dug in that simply don't have the intellectual capacity to debate and wouldn't change their opinions no matter what happens next.....those people don't deserve an appointment with your brain.

One of the very best features of this great site is the ability to put posters on "ignore" and get rid of the white noise.

It's not something you need often, but it really parses down the site to what's interesting, relevant and conversational, while getting rid of the simpletons and riff-raff from your feed. It sharpens your experience here and eliminates the time waste of going back and forth with the clueless and meandering know-nothings.

I highly recommend it. I've got about 12 on ignore, some of them from forever ago that I'm not even sure are still here. I use it sparingly.

I don't recommend using it just because of a spirited debate that gets testy or even personal, then cools off later and gets back to meaningful football discussion. It's just the internet, and who cares about that stuff. We all get a little overly passionate at times about the Cowboys.

I'm referring to those useless fence-posts who never add anything to any conversation, and don't have the football acumen to be worth your time or thought process. You know the kind.

If you haven't already, tailor the site the way you want it before the season starts. Makes for a much better season all the way around.

Even better is the god given ability (GASP) to ignore people without having to (GASP) ‘put them on ignore’ or the god given ability (GASP) to consider that someone else may be right or have a point about something (of course except @Idgit )

Just think about this before you put me on ignore .........

Too funny. I have 25. A few that I should not have blocked but found them to be too annoying to deal with. A few that were just jerks. Lastly, a few that would be so nasty I would dream about the good old days when I just would stomp some people. Kids, wife, and a new career derailed the stomping days.

..Coach, that reminds of a time back at the DC.com site. Where I was away for a few weeks and I came back and some said you left. I admit I was blatantly not happy about it. I always enjoyed yer input to cowboy swing of things. I think, I even wrote you a small sermon..lol.. Something along the lines of just let it go, its no biggie. Your a true cowboy champion. ;)..

....I cant remember exactly what happened, that caused the ordeal.
I do, that's when I came here and I remember your thread as well. Nurse Ratched, the new sheriff in town, was openly threatening some poster friends of mine and I went over the top and lost it and left. I did come back and apologize but mainly to the posters there and the mods. Praxy, ya know the funny part of it was if there was a poster there she should have gotten onto about staying on topic, it was moi and she never even threatened me. If they didn't have the Member's Zone and Off-Topic Zones here well attended, these gendarmes would have put me on double secret time out by now.

The difference here is that they set up an area for play time for us, I would have named it the Kiddie Pool, and I got in the habit of using the forum for that and it became it's own animal. We were kind of a lawless bunch so they sent in the new sheriff and we made her feel like the sheriff in "High Plains Drifter". The best description of us came from a poster there when he said we were all like a bunch of 5 year olds playing grabass, nailed it, he did.

Site dried up since we left. Good riddance.
