The plan isn't working. If we were winning NFC championships, i'd have a different opinion. We continue to invest in the wrong positions and go cheap where it matters most.. You would think after getting gashed by the Rams for almost 300 yards, some attention would have been paid to the DL this off season. Adding a rookie who wasn't even a good college player is hardly addressing the problem.
The plan was a rebuild on an aged team. We're a young, debt free, and competitive team that managed the transition from Romo to a new QB, and the associated transition of the WR squad.
I'm not addressing the Hill pick itself. We'll see on him.
But we spent our highest pick on DT since 91, and that was the highest pick we had available after trading our first for Cooper. That's attention to the DL. So is signing Quinn. And Lawrence. This offseason was all about the DL.
If you want to talk about NFC championships, I'll point to our coaching in the playoffs. Or just coaching period. Linehan didn't make the most of what we had, or sufficiently develop Dak. Marinelli got pantsed in our last two playoff losses. And Garrett played his part in the loss to GB.
Building the roster is probably what we're best at right now. That it hasn't overcome the hole it started in, or our weakness at Xs and Os doesn't persuade me to dump the build through the draft strategy. I'm more worried we're going back to the "can't let our guys go cuz we're so close" strategy that doomed the 00s.
