I'm feeling that way more and more. I'm sick of trying to defend and justify his behaviors (real and accused). He hasn't gone one off season without some sort of controversy. Right now, he is acting like a spoiled brat. Now, if he had a clean record, I might be more sympathetic to his cause. He's a great player, he's our best offensive player, and he's taken quite a load for the team.

But he keeps getting into trouble. Jerry took on the Commissioner of the NFL because of him....at great personal cost (financially...and to his reputation). If Zeke truly wants Jerry to pay him as much as Gurley, then I suggest he come back this season, play his butt off, and have NO ISSUES at all off the field. Then, maybe Jerry will feel a little more comfortable compensating him like the best RB in the NFL.
this is where i am. you can't deny the young mans talent. he puts it out there every chance he gets. but his off the field antics have already earned him more than enough suspensions for his 1st contract. part of me wants to pay the man and hope he's grown up. but before i'd shell out record amounts of $, i'd need some guarantee he's done just that.

it would need to be incentive based to hurt his salary if he screws up moreso than just losing the $ for the games he'd be out.

Over the years I’ve discovered that fans are extremely critical of everything our front office does. Either critical or cynical. The fans on this site are especially tough on the Jones family due to the long drought of success.

So when I’m reading such positive things about the front office’s stand regarding team contracts, I’m actually more than a little surprised.

To the players: when the fans start siding with the owner over your contract demands, you are in big trouble. That is rare air, maybe moreso in Dallas. When you start to lose the fans, you are in trouble. Time to talk to your agents and find a compromise. Get a fair contract signed, young guys.

We are critical of the front office when the team loses. We are critical of players when they act in a way that hurts the team. No mystery here. Dak lost the fan base when he turned down top 5 QB money b/c he's not a top 5 or even top 10 QB. Zeke is under contract for 2 more years, and decided he wasn't playing under the terms of that contract anymore. His right, but not a very sympathetic position. Those are really the only guys we debate on here.

I'm not turning on him. I think he's getting bad advice, I feel the agent is trying to increase his own stock.

I agree, I love watching him play. He is a knucklehead otherwise - never thought any different. This does not change that - just continuing his knuckleheaded ways!

Don’t you think Dak deserves some of the fan’s fury for wanting $40 million a year? At least Zeke is one of the very best at his position so he is justified for wanting to be paid like one of the best. Dak is rated at below average to average and he is wanting to be paid like the top QB in the league. Why no mention of Dak’s greed? Yes, when a player wants twice his value, it is pure greed with no consideration for the team.
Yes. Dak is greedy too. He wants more than he is worth. But, at least he is out there playing out his original deal and not getting butthurt by things the owner says and leaving the country.

If Zeke wasn't a Dbag off the field people would be siding with him
Doubt it. Fans only care about the team. Not the players. Once a player's skill declines it's get rid of them. Zeke's easy to dislike. But there was the same lets get rid of him with Lawrence too. It will be the same with Dak and Cooper if they don't take team friendly deals.

I think the amount QB's are making is making a big difference in fan reactions to contracts. When they are getting 30 mill and fans know what the cap is, it really effects what the team can do. Honestly, DLaws contract, IMO, is just as damaging as a 30-35 mill Dak contract would be. Tank really should have been gone if Taco had been the goods.

Jerry has about 18 days to get Zeke his new contract.

Or we start losing football games.

I can't stay quiet on this thread any longer. I had to call out this post and others like it.
This is simply not correct. If we lost because of one player, *** does that say about the team? Hey are you Zeke's agent??????????

Also what does it say about our coach? Oh......wait.......

I actually think what the OP sees as positive, is actually segments of the fanbase that didn’t like certain moves to begin with and don’t want the mistakes exacerbated. I’m not saying that’s me, but I have a lot of friends that think 1) drafting a running back with a high 1st round pick, 2) handing the reigns over to Dak, and 3) trading a 1st round pick for a WR... Were all mistakes by the FO. So of course those people don’t want to hand out big contracts to those same guys.
I don’t actually see any of it as positive or negative....surprising. My point was mainly directed at Zeke, Dak, Cooper. When Dallas fans side with Jerry over the players when it comes to contracts, that’s a bad sign for the players. They need to sign or say/do something that keeps the fan base on their side.

Dak is at camp. He is practicing and getting ready to play with the rest of the team.

There is no confirmation that He asked for $40 million, and nobody knows the real numbers being negotiated, that includes guarantees. Nobody knows what Dak will ultimately be willing to sign for.

The reason some fans are turning on Zeke is because of the holdout. If Zeke was at camp practicing and preparing with everyone else, people wouldn’t care nearly as much about the contract negotiation.

I personally don’t get upset about players holding out, but for some fans it’s a real sticking point. That’s the primary issue with Zeke right now and that’s why fans are siding with the front office more. Because of the holdout.

I don’t think nearly as many fans would
Be siding with Jerry over Zeke if it weren’t for that.

I also think getting fans to turn on players for asking for more money is exactly what the owners want.

When Emmitt held out, the Cowboys started 0-2.

Out of curiosity, what do you think that says about Jimmy Johnson and the team that they couldn't win without Emmitt? Oh wait... I forgot a bunch of question marks ???????????????????????????????????????????

And I wonder what the reaction would have been if the internet was around then? I know I was on Jerry's side until the losing started. After that my entire anger went to Jerry. It was like "I don't care what he wants. Sign him."

Well if you are to believe the press the QB wants $35-40MM per when Tom Friggin Brady just signed a 2 year extension at $21MM per. Also, you have Mr. Cabo holding out with 2 years left on his deal. When players/agents show such stupidity it is hard not to root for the FO.

Well,I don't know, what do you think about Emmitts team in 1993.

Not having Zeke is huge!

And I don't care what anyone says, this team is nowhere close to that team. The big difference was the Cowboys were coming off a SB season and this team hasn't won anything thus far.
