sick of internet knowit alls that think they know more then an NFL staff YES:facepalm::muttley::thumbup:
Do you know why a fan forum exist?
So we can all hold hands and praise the teams staff all day? That sounds like a fun place to be.

Sick of people that can't formulate an intelligent debate hiding behind the "coaches decisions".

Were you ball riding Marinelli the last few years when fans questioned his playcalling also? I bet you were.

100%. Btw I think marinelli is one of the worst DC's in football. And this myth that he's a d line guru frustrates me to no end.

He was a guru when he had Warren Sapp, Simeon Rice and Booger McFarland playing for him.

Pretty easy to be a guru when you’re coaching talent like that.
Our 1st round pick can't even crack the starting lineup with jags ahead of him.

I would say he looks a bit better than last year but he is not going to be an all-pro guard. Saying he is the weak link because the rest of the line is made up of Collins, Frederick, Martin and Smith is not really saying much. Its too bad Connor McGovern was hurt the entire preseason. I wonder if he would have wound up replacing Connor Williams at some point this year. I advise caution evaluating players based on preseason games and training camp.

I 100% think mcgovern would have won that job.

After 3 pre-season games....the guy that everyone said was one of the most improved players during the off-season...put on more weight...better technique...more experience....bla bla bla

Still continues to suck the life out of this offense. More penalties...more blown assignments...more entitlement.

Frankly..as long as this guy is starting....we as an offense.. are gonna be inconsistant. He just kills drives w/ his penalties...and they always seem to happen during a big play.

Teams have figured out he's the weaklink in the line...and have targeted him. JJ Watt was killing him the 1st couple of series...when the Cowboys finally had to pull the plug...and move Filo to left G to combat the breakdowns.

Maybe the light will come on for this guy...but I'm not buying he's put on a bunch of weight...or got stronger.

Right now...we just can't afford to teach a guy on the run. Either he can handle the job...or not.

And as of now..He can't. :(

You have not been paying attention as usual.

100% Ppl forget the great wall of dallas started with 5 guys. The highest drafted guy I believe was in the 3rd round. But you are asking our team to do something they know they aren't capable of and that's coach up guys.

At this level no OL will get ragdolled in the sense you are wanting it to mean.
These are 300 pound strong as hell men. All of them.

Aren't we tired of making excuses for this Tackle trying to play guard? Is it not clear to everyone that this man is playing out of position. What makes a guard a guard and what makes a Tackle a Tackle clearly shows this man is a tackle. He could be an excellent tackle. Maybe our best. He has the quickness, decent power to control and push around DE's.
The shame is that Connor Williams is a feel good story that every fan wants to love and do well. This man most likely doesnt even want to play guard. He will be a good soldier and not say anything though. He will eat himself into a fatter person than he wants to be based on the pain he carries from his childhood bullying.

Mark my words. Someday this man will be playing Tackle like he played in college and is better suited to play. Until then we will watch him compensate with holds and the occasional ragdoll
I don't "want" it to mean anything, it's just that typically throwing someone around like a "ragdoll" means they manhandled them. I was just pointing out this was more of a technique issue than manhandling.

I understand your point about him being a tackle, and that's what I've believed all along as well. But I don't think that necessarily means he can't be a guard. He has bulked up, and added strength, which is a plus, but he has a lot learn about technique and situations if he is going to be anything more than average.

The O-Line has played very well for a number of years, so where is the coaching failure?

Growing pains of a second year guy learning a new position. He’s not garbage but he’s not all pro either. Obviously he has the athleticism to play tackle but we need him at guard for some reason. I agree he’s the “Weaker link” but it’s not as dramatic as it’s being made out to be, he’s better than serviceable. What’s that famous zone saying? Can’t have all pros at every position...

yep
same play last year, he probably would have been ragdolled.
i see progression.
lets hope the improvement continues.
given it is the beginning of year 2, chances are good for improvement.

I dont have any problem with Connor Williams. He is exactly what he was projected to be. And immensely talented and athletic offensive lineman that needs to get bigger and more technically sound. From what I've seen he's improved immensely from last year.

Fans of the Cowboys are spoiled when it comes to offensive line play, and rightfully so, and really don't have a baramoeter for good vs. bad other than cherry picking plays that serve their narrative.

Regarding Williams, he's not Martin. Don't get carried away thinking that all of these OL come in ready to play at this level. Back in the day, a rookie OL would be happy to get the backup role and that was the one position that most coaches were twitchy about starting a young player. That's what the preseason games were all about back then, getting a look at the rookie lineman and then charting their movement up the roster until they became a starter.

Williams came in undersized, under strength and under technique to be a quality NFL OG and needed some training and seasoning and will most likely get the latter this season and we'll be able to better measure his progress.

Having an OL like the Cowboys with 3 legit pbers on it does cause us to be a little too hard on the other positions. And speaking of those, and I was, Collins, yes, one of the Collins playing for a contract, has been the story of camp on the OL. Wouldn't you know it? That guy that many see as expendable and need I remind anyone of the OL after Free and Leary left? They were easily replaceable too.

I do believe Williams has a good OLC to bring him along but don't expect a pb this season for him.

So we need to pull the plug on CW because JJ Watt was beating him? :lmao:

unfortunately people are still tripping,.. and gonna be determined to trip on Connor based off last year.
they forget that he is still learning the OG position vs guys that have established themselves there at the collegiate level and an advantage into the NFL level.
and they won't take his entire body of work vs one lone penalty.

besides JJ Watt, give me another Texans player that you saw getting the better of Connor ?
And I saw no sign or indication that the Cowboys flip Williams over to the right side in favor of Sua Filo.
Is this trolling or someone that doesn't understand and confused about what they are seeing ?

Noones untouchable, Hes working to get better and if he was true liability he wouldn't be starting..

in the end if this fails he can easily play RT and not a wasted pick and LC maybe gone as he might cost too much, so the other Conner at LG and Cwill at RT.. we have prepared its why Xaviers here..we wont be out in a Chaz Green situation again..

I hope not. Look, I want the guy to succeed. We don't need guys in Dak's lap every other 3rd down. I just wanted to point out how forgiving fans are to Williams compared to previous players taken as high as he was. Trysten Hill was having the bust word thrown around even before preseason started. Not sure why Williams is a hand-picked can't-do-wrong, but all of our rookies and 2nd year players should be treated this way. I'm sure these guys put enough pressure on themselves without fans dogging them too.

Tough on a rookie or even soph OL with the success of Big Smitty, Yosemite and Martin. And I can recall the angst over taking Yosemite back then and easy to forget the last rookie OL to make All Pro was 60 years before Martin did it.
