Signed by Cowboys La’el Collins Signs New 5 Year Contract

La’el Collins is the one player I did want the cowboys to let walk for two reasons: 1. You already have possible replacements for him that were highly drafted. (Connor Williams to tackle. McGovern to guard).

2. He isn’t that good to begin with.

3. The money could have been spent on guys you don’t have replacements lined up for, such as, Byron or Anthony Brown.

It was not.

Collins is an average to slightly above average RT who is being paid like an elite RT.

He is making roughly what Lane Johnson is making. In no world are the two comparable.
Dude, we both know he’s going to be a guard. Name 7 better guards...

I was hoping this bum was going to be gone this year by moving Williams. Welp I guess this let us know Williams is a bust and they looking to replace him.

He got a lot better after Columbo took over.

One, he's not moving to OG.

Two, I can name 10 guards better than him without blinking................ Yanda, Martin, Nelson, Norwell, Osemele, Whitehair, Marpet, Jackson, Mason, Turner, BItonio, DeCastro.......... shoot, that's 12 OGs that are definitely better. And that doesn't include Brandon Brooks, who if healthy (coming off an achilles injury) is also better.

How?

If he's saving $5.7MM against the cap this year (he was like a $10MM cap hit this year), then there isn't really any front loading of the contract in Year 1.

Well I read the first 2 years are fully guaranteed. So wouldn't that be $20MM if his AAV is $10MM?

edit:

Come next year, he's likely 7th or 8th highest..

Likely not.

Only one RT in the top 10 right now is up for a new contract............... Jack Conklin. Everyone else in the Top 10 is signed through 2022. The only other one in the Top 15 is Bulaga and he's over 30, so he probably isn't getting any massive extension in the future either.

Lane Johnson signed two years ago and he's still the 2nd highest paid RT.

Hey, You gave Us an extra one free, thanks .

I agree btw.

So then the reports of him saving $5.7MM against the cap this year were wrong? Because he was a $10MM cap hit prior to the contract.

Wow...a little surprised by this...didnt think he would be a priority this early if at all.

I am glad Dallas is getting the contracts nailed down with the roster., I would love to see A Brown, B Jones, Cooper, M Collins and Prescott ink out extensions as well.
Everyone not named Zeke that is.
Go Dallas!!!
Sad to say I agree...he should be awarded last for his knuckle head character off the field
