I thought about making this post just an animated gif of Kellen Moore dancing on Linehan’s grave. Unfortunately I don’t have the photoshop skills.

Linehan’s philosophy was to execute and make the opponent stop you. That became way too predictable. What we saw yesterday was Kellen Moore playing chess with a lot of talented pieces. Fans miss the subtle things like presnap movement and the play calling mix, but this was like we have been watching beer league softball for a couple of years and suddenly Bruce Lee walked out on the diamond and killed everyone with Ninja Stars.

Another big factor is that Dallas doesn’t play its starters in preseason so the execution by both lines really wasn’t there. And even then, we dominated a Giants team that isn’t good but is still much improved over last year. Half the threads after the game have been nitpicking something that will improve as the season goes on, remember how awful this team looked in its opener last year in Carolina. The problem fixed itself with reps last year, a lot of these little things will this year too.

Kris Richard played contain the entire game and then went to Prevent early, but we still saw glimpses of a new weapon on defense – the LB blitzes. Jaylon and LVE are Pro Bowl level players and when all of the DL are healthy, those LB blitzes are going to be a big factor.

Randall Cobb is a better player than Cole Beasley, he is also a much better fit for Kellen Moore’s scheme. The issue has always been health, cross your fingers he stays healthy.

Dak has more weapons now but he has also improved. Fixing the OL solved most of the issues he had last year but look for him to go to a new level this year. And BTW, when is the last time you saw a QB run, look for contact and stiff arm a defender?

LVE and Jaylon Smith will both go to the Pro Bowl. LVE is clearly more comfortable in his assignments this year, its crazy that a quiet game from the guy is 10 tackles, a half sack, a PD and two QB hits.

Rookie 3rd down back Tony Pollard had a good blitz pickup yesterday. That doesn’t sound like a big deal, but it is.

Oh yeah - I was losing my mind (in a good way) when I saw Olawale line up wide. Good presnap motions as well.

Not running the football on every first down was also nice. Way to go Kellen.

Loved the wheel route to Olawale. He had the linebacker beat, but Dak couldn't get enough on it. (I think it was because of pressure, but I'd have to go back and look.)

I saw the Pollard blitz pick up and it was nice. Also saw Cobb doing some nice blocking. My biggest surprise was the amount of snaps Olawale took. That was something I didn't expect and I wonder if those snaps go down as Zeke gets on the field more. If Olawale's role doesn't change, then I'd expect him to get the ball a few times down the road. I also thought Jourdan Lewis had a real nice game that hasn't been mentioned much.

Biggest difference I see is how the progressions were called. Linehan would always have WR1 in the first two progressions. Moore spreads the love and gives all his receivers a chance. He also dialed up a ton more deep shots instead of digs or other crossing routes ad nauseum.

I also love how he would utilize WCO concepts like those quick slants on run downs. We got a ton of mileage out of that and with our guys RAC ability that is money.

As he was climbing the pocket a defender got into his legs.

Thanks. My memory of some of the plays is blending together. I plan to go back and rewatch the game, looking for particular things, in the next day or so because usually there's so much I don't notice the first time around.

Exactly, with Linehan you could guess the play would be a comeback route to WR1 or a run by Zeke - and you would be right 9 times out of ten.

With Kellen Moore yesterday, at the moment you were forming your guess LOOK THE FULLBACK IS RUNNING A DEEP OUT. 2019 is the year of the deadly Ninja Throwing Stars.

Good points
I was a little down on Jaylon's play yesterday. He seemed to overrun some plays and he got caught in traffic or had trouble shedding some blocks yesterday. That said, I think he'll get back into sync like last year very soon. I was also very impressed at the way our offense picked up the blitz. NY kept challenging Dak and Oline. However Dak got plenty of time to go through his progressions. Fun to watch!!

Our FB is a real weapon if we utilize his strengths. He has blazing speed for a FB.

- Linehan had a barrel of faults that stalled and held this offense back – despite weapons like dak, cooper, gallup, Beasley and jarwin; he was limited creative wise, and he really felt more comfortable doing the 90’s offense, relied more on personnel lining up and beating their own guys, instead of expanding his mind to devise ways to better scheme and help them get more open, as well as stubbornly not listening to helpful constructive suggestions and staying comfortable ( and repeatedly) with the staple plays he felt more comfortable with.

- If he did find a change up, he’d tried it, toss it and go right back to that staple of comfortable plays. He never seem to expand his play designs, or made in-game counter schemes.

- Instead of better designing bunch formations, or rub routes, or double -moves and streak upfield to counter the Beasley -bracket coverage (LB underneath and a DB over top or by side of LB) to surprised DBs, Linny decided he’d rather just line up and flank Beasley outside to see what happens, .. that much more of a waste.

- He’d tried Austin on jet sweep and quick bubble screen (ala Carolina) and if it worked – he’d stop it, and you wouldn’t see it again.
And its well noted about his tendencies - sometime even Babe Laufenberg would pre-snap call out Linny’s plays

You know it was bad when you hear his own players griping and questioning his calls – even during the game. (running same ole repeated plays)
