Dolphins rotation in the secondary is fairly new. And one can argue there were rotations week 1 due to the shitshow performance out there from their "starters". I mean Walt Aikens(think of Keith Davis/Tony Dixon but more lost on a defense) got 18 snaps.
They have one great corner in Howard and then a bunch of spare parts, outside of Fitz if they just left him alone in the slot.

Last year Fitz was primarily the slot corner as McDonald and Jones manned the safety spots.
When injuries piled up he was asked to play boundary and FS when McDonald was out.

This year he has been asked to do a lot, such as linebacker, SS, slot etc. Hence his high percentage of snaps compared to his teammates.

He technically was a "backup" week 1 cause he wasn't on the starting roster but yes this and last year he was heavily involved.

He was also high on the snaps played last year due to injuries that plagued the team. Quite a few of their starters missed a few games but Fitz was healthy for the year.

I think the Dolphins could have some interest in Taco + a pick. They lost their starter in Ledbetter(DE) on IR and their talent in the front 7 is bad. Taco could be a worthy try for them since he would get significant snaps there and well they would be getting a day 2 pick back to restock the bust cupboard.
But is it likely? Doubtful. We like what we have, and Fitz isn't a fan of the SS role.
Outside of injuries Minkah was going to be on the field last year. His high snaps were not due to that at all.

Just get him here and figure it out from there.
C’mon man that was straight fan speak lol. You don’t trade assets for a guy you’re not gonna use.

He’s a slot corner and that’s what he’s always been projected to be in the NFL. The reason he slid in the draft was because he was kinda in no mans land position wise; with his best projection being at slot corner.

He isn’t a SS, isn’t a FS. He can play inside and outside corner. We have that covered on this roster.

Can’t just jump at every big name guys it’s gotta actually make football sense

So the question is would yall trade a 2nd for him?

Absolutely. It would be a smart move. I'd play him in the slot.

Lets you move on from Brown, who will be expensive, for cheaper and upgrades the position at the same time. Plus you get the comp pick for Brown? No brainer.

I hear ya and I agree. Just stating that the % in ratio to his teammates may of been skewed ever so slightly from injuries or benchings of Jones, McDonald, Howard, Wake, etc... But no for sure the team last year wanted to get him involved.

Only way his snaps would of been lower is had the team stayed healthy and were in the 4-3 package more.

TJ McDonald got a decent contract(MikeT special) and was the starting FS even though his skill set is for the SS role(R. Jones).
They trusted McCain out on the boundary more, where he was bad lol.

Interesting. Not that familiar with him, kind of a Byron Jones CB/S hybrid player? Geez, was the pick #11 in the 1st out of Bama.

I say do it, either that then he ends up on the eagles. Also he still has three years left on a rookie deal, a deal that Miami would still end up paying the majority of.

Not sure I believe Ben Albright about them accepting a 2nd for Fitz.

For now, they have no reason to sell low(er) on a guy they own the rights to for 2-3 more years, especially with his talent.

They got a kings ransom for a good, but not elite left tackle in Tunsil and Stills.
The Dolphins are tanking, but I doubt they see it worthy to ship off their 2nd best secondary member for a late 2nd.

For now, simplify the game for him. Keep him in the slot or throw him at FS. It's a tank year, no harm in seeing if he sinks or swims at free.
No point in having him have to learn the SS, LB, SCB and boundary corner roles. I know Flores wants versatile players, but not every player can do it. Especially over a wide range Flores wants Fitz to do.

Minkah Fitzpatrick was one of the league's best slot cornerbacks last year. Cowboys don't need a slot CB at this time. Fitzpatrick is too expensive (Dolphins want at least a 1st rounder). Trading Taco (2017 1st rounder) and a 2nd round pick is too much.

Dallas will not give up a draft pick for him, especially a 2nd round pick. They already gave Miami a 6th for Quinn. No way they give away a 2nd round too.
He is not a Cooper and is that huge of a difference maker.

This happened last season forever over ET. Didn't happen. Unless Taco or another player is involved, doubt they trade a draft pick unless it is their 5th or 6th.

Minkah:
22 years old
Plays the exact position we are weakest at
Had one of the best rookie seasons last year
One year removed from being an elite prospect
His CAP hits if traded:
Still four years of team control for us
No off field issues

I could get talked into a 1st pretty easily.

I don't know if playing them next week helps our hurts our chances if we're interested.

They got a massive haul for Tunsil and they have granted permission for him to leave.

I'm hoping they'll do a 2.

1 is not realistic for us even though we probably won't find a talent like him where we'll be drafting.
