I once volunteered to be a judge at a chili cookoff.Never again. Some of those cooks had not quite reached the skilled level yet. Rolaids was my best friend soon after.
I judged the BBQ cookoff at Germanfest in Muenster, TX for 3 years and they billed me as a Celebrity Judge which became a running gag around the stations and at home. My morning man did a bit about it and called me the Owl Judge because everyone responded the same way when asked about the Celebrity Judge. Who? Who?? Who???

The last year I did it, they served us BBQ chicken from this team of drunks that was damned near raw. The lady next to me bit into a leg and saw the blood and started yelling, ran out of the tent and stuck her finger down her throat and puked and I was dying, I laughed so hard they almost asked me to leave. And it even got funnier when I found out she was an attorney and filed a lawsuit against them and they settled with her. Didn't invite her back to judge or me either.

Morning Pops and fellow Chili Heads and I know Runny is one because his family always asks him to cook chili for get togethers...…………...and never omelettes.

Not much on the slate for college football today but Jan's got the Iowa-Iowa State rivalry happening and I wish that were at Iowa to see the greatest tradition in the game, the cellphone waving to the kids in the Children's Hospital next door. Tears me up every time I see that, got some fine folks in that state. Makes me almost like people when I see that.

Summer refuses to leave, hitting 97 today and tomorrow and for all of those that think football is a religion in Texas, they are wrong. If it was, fall would arrive with football.

Morning, Pops and pen pals. Welcome to the Weekend. I'm hoping I get our game tomorrow on tv. I got last week's game on Fox but the other network's game were not shown by this cable provider. I washed my clothes in the kitchen sink yesterday since I was down to my last shirt and last pair of shorts.

Morning Pops,
Just found out my second kid will be a boy(blood testing).
First one was a boy, and is about to turn two.

First shocker of the day came in the Pops thread. I see a white cat talking about a pregnancy and thought @daboyzruleperiod was making the announcement

Evening Pops and everyone. Hope everyone had a great Friday.

This week took forever to pass. The coming couple weeks will too I'm sure, and at the same time will go too fast. Did I mention my daughter and her guy (Dustin) (no kids in tow) are coming to meet the family? I pick them up at the airport on the 28th. I'm trying to plan a simple meet and greet with just our immediate family, but that's easily 20 people. They'll be here a couple days and fly out early on the 1st. Funny thing is I then fly out to their place on the 10th. Been so busy trying to figure out food, still working 50 hrs/wk, have a funeral tomorrow and an appointment for remaining car repairs, canning to be done blah blah blah. Life goes on, even with the extras. Of course, it all comes to a screeching halt on Sunday at kick off.

Here's hoping for another great game!! Can't wait for Sunday.

Have a good night everyone.
Good morning Pops and Zoner Friends from the Colorado Front Range where the leaves are ever so slowly changing colors.

@GrammaJan, your comments about the meet and greet made me chuckle out loud. I was in Dustin's shoes a couple of weeks ago at the Romanian wedding. As the token American, I was a bit of a novelty. Although everyone was quite cordial, I couldn't help but notice small groups of my wife's family occasionally nod in my direction and whisper, "Americanski". Afterwards, there was normally a toast (with some kind of Moldavian moonshine). So, all was good.

The moral of the story: keep Dustin liqueur'd up.

;)

I would have responded sooner but I was at a funeral. I think Dustin will be fine and be able to hold his own, but just in case I'll keep some liquor aside for him. Heck, after being around that much family I may need it myself.

There's another tropical storm around the Bahamas right now. It's called Humperdink or something like that. They're watching it to see if it amounts to anything. No comment.
"Brave" would be volunteering to be the taster for my omelettes. I just discovered that having cookware that's non-stick only on the inside isn't good enough for me.
It does me to read things like that. I feel like Laurel and Hardy in the kitchen. The stove is Hardy talking about the fine mess I'm making while I stand there confused and whimpering. On the bright side, there are no witnesses to my messes or victims of my cooking.
