Heath did take a bad angle. As a matter of fact he took an awful angle. Instead of making a play on the ball he should have conceded the catch and took the angle to make the tackle on the receiver. It's obvious he isn't going to make that play and should have been obvious to him.
He would need to take more steps if he tried to angle further downfield.
I don't think he would get there at any angle or if he just focused on the tackle instead of any attempt at the ball.
On the original broadcast view I did think that he went for the ball and missed the tackle because of it, but after multiple reviews of the coach film angles, I'm not convinced he could he get there regardless.
The slot WR not being covered by Lewis or the LBs is what delayed Heath. If the slot WR was covered Heath was going to transition to run at about the 25 but when it was clear that nobody was covering the slot WR he stayed in his back-peddle until almost the 30 before transitioning to run downfield.
