You folks who hate Garrett think to fire him is the answer but you are wrong. Firing Garrett will get you nowhere if you fail to replace him with the right guy. At the moment, that "right guy" does not exist. I think the ramifications of firing Garrett would be detrimental to this team if done mid-season. The core of this team is tight with Garrett so even if you don't feel that connection, they do. So you have to consider how that would affect them.

Asking for Jerry to just hire a Belichick is kind of unrealistic. He's unique.

That said, a big problem the Cowboys have has nothing to do with Xs and Os. It's that Garrett's teams just kind of go with the flow and rarely overcome circumstances. If they do well for a while they get complacent start to buy into their own press clippings and lay an egg (or three). If they lose a player on offense or defense that entire unit just craps out. Some outside circumstance makes the team mad and they curb stomp the other guy out of nowhere. This has been consistently inconsistent for as long as anybody can remember.

Garrett gets credit for his team playing hard, but he actually seems to have little influence on if the team is up or down any given week - it's seemingly just the group psychology of the locker room drifting from week to week. The way I see it the Cowboys aren't coached on the most basic level - consistency comes from motivation and discipline, basic sports psych stuff. We rightly complain about the antiquated schemes on both sides of the ball, but really the bigger problem is that the team is always just going to do whatever - good or bad - from week to week.

It's less that Garrett is outright terrible and more that he just doesn't matter.

Even when Patriots lose, 95% of the players look sharp and masters of their position. They execute almost perfectly play after play. Every player seems to know the technique to use for each situation and mistakes are rare.

What are they doing that could help Dallas improve? It is not all Brady though having a vet in the pocket certainly helps.

Garret going on 10 years, is he really not preparing for every team and not adjusting during the game or what?

I think Jerry is the biggest obstacle. It's not that he doesn't want to win another SB. While that may be #1 on his list, winning one with The Clapper as HC is #1A so he can show the world that he was right about Garrett.

If that were not the case, how much the franchise has invested in JG would be completely irrelevant. Jason, based on his comments, approaches the games bassackwards. He is "we do what we do". That obviously isn't working where it matters. He doesn't seem to care about the strengths and weaknesses of the opponent and how to develop a plan to attack their weakness and minimize their strength. The Patriots are just the opposite. Take last year's playoffs for example. The completely changed "who they were". Now, it didn't work...unless you consider winning another Lombardi trophy and handing out gawdy rings to your players a success.

In my opinion, unless The Clapper takes them to the conference championship game, Jerry needs to cut his loses. Maybe the answer is on the staff (seriously doubt that), maybe it's Lincoln Riley, maybe it's Urban Meyers, maybe it's someone else. Just hire a proven winner and give them 100% control of their staff and the scheme.

How do you find another Belichick? I don't know it's possible.

In many ways I think most people take Belichick for granted because we are living in his era. Sorta like being a college basketball fan during the John Wooden era.

As good as we realize he is today, we are going to look back 20 years from now and acknowledge how utterly amazing he (and Brady) have been.

Hire Jimmy as GM. Give him a contract that pays 1 dollar per year with a 1 billion bonus for winning the Super Bowl.

Jerry can actually keep the GM title and continue to speak to the media as much as he wants but Jimmy would have ALL power over football operations.

Jimmy would find the right HC or might still have the energy to do it himself but he is 76 (Belichick is 67).

The Cowboys would be in the Super Bowl for the 2020 season with the only question being if they could beat the Patriots...

Team would need to be sold to an owner that would hire a good GM, then bring in a HC that would be allowed to bring in his own complete staff. That would be a start but not a guarantee.

Better coaching leads to better discipline leads to do your job it's pretty simple actually but you actually have to be a motivator coach instead of a clapping statue on the sidelines, with that being said Belichick isn't always talking to his players but if you watch him he takes notes and he's over there talking to the defense which is his specialty and when the offense sputters he's over there talking to the offensive coordinator not standing there like a statue

Problem is old jerrah will not hire a JJ or Tuna. Those type of coaches keeps him off camera and he does not like that. No other owner does what he does and those types of coaches he does not like.

I didn't see Belechick playing it safe with Darnold at any point during the game. I saw constant blitzing, and Darnold crumbling under the pressure. I think his exact words were "I am seeing ghosts".

When Dallas played the Jets, there were no exotic blitzes or many blitzes at all, except for the occasional Jaylon Smith running into an OG. Darnold pretty much had all the time to set and throw. Even with the game out of hand, the Pats kept up the pressure on Darnold. The Cowboys afe style of defense gives confidence to poor teams and put the Cowboys players on their heels.
