I have no doubt Jerry does not want to fire Garrett but I still think the outcome of this season will determine Garrett fate. I expect any owner to fully back and support his HC but at the end of the day Garrett getting his contract extended comes down to how this team produces and the results

I'll say it again, if Garrett were to get an extension, I don't think I could continue to follow this team. That could be the final straw for me. I'd lose all hope.

I want to believe that if Garrett gets his new deal, it's because we made the NFCCG.

If that's the case, then I can't totally disagree with Jones. It would be tough to just let a coach that did that walk. I might still let him walk anyway but I can't argue if he's back in that scenario.

Now if he misses the playoffs or we bomb out early again? He should not be back.

Is this a revelation to anyone? This is clearly the reason why Jerry Jones has been patient to a fault when it comes to keeping Jason Garrett this long. He truly does want this thing to work out. And I think that all of us would as well.

Think about it, would you rather see Garrett and these Cowboys win a Super Bowl and see the man extended or have them lose just so Garrett would be fired?

Having said that, there's "looking for reasons", and there's "making up excuses". And I certainly hope that Jerry Jones is capable of making that distinction.

Given that he intentionally allowed Garrett to go intimidating a contract year without an extension, I think he does.

Earn it or don't.

I agree. Look if Jerry wanted to give Garrett an extension it would have been done. It is not like a coaches contract plays any factor in the salary cap.

You’re not a scapegoat if you’ve been handicapping the team through your PPP (P**s Poor Performance). The hate is warranted. In Rod’s case, it’s not so much poor performance as poor personnel input and decisions.
As much as your statement is true i still blame JJ and is son for most of the decisions. We might change some coaches but won't matter much.

Jerry Jones is “looking for reasons” to keep Jason Garrett
Posted by Charean Williams on October 21, 2019, 3:06 PM EDT

The Cowboys front office repeatedly expressed public support for Jason Garrett last week in the midst of a three-game losing streak. Both Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones said Garrett’s job was not on the line in Sunday’s game against the Eagles.

They weren’t lying.

The Cowboys owner, in fact, said he wants to keep Garrett beyond this season after Garrett’s contract expires.

“I am looking for reasons. I’m looking for reasons to keep him,” Jones said. “It’s merited here. It’s hard to get an effective coach and get it locked in with all you have to do retool and redo

Jerry would have drafted Manziel but it didn't happen.

In the off-season Stephen Jones said Garrett's record is "Not Good Enough".

SJones hates spending money and not getting a return on investment.

If the Cowboys don't make it to the NFC Championship Game, SJones is going to stand on his head to avoid giving Garrett a new contract.

Unless there's a fan revolt in Dallas like in D.C. with the Skins there won't be a change in HC. Money is good for the Jones family and in the end, this is a business and is about the bottom line.
Fan revolt? When did this fan revolt happen? Was this fan revolt really the cause of Jay Gruden's firing? Or is it just a coincidence that Gruden was fired after Washington endured an 0-5 to start this season and the franchise had lost 11 of the past 12 games?

I found this opinion interesting:

"Forget 0-4 – the Commanders have done that before all too often. It's the 0-for-fans that really matters. The support base is broken and they really mean it this time. Until president Bruce Allen is replaced, Burgundy Nation isn't coming back. That's right – it's all about firing Allen, just like it was firing predecessor Vinny Cerrato in 2009 to quiet the last major fan revolt... There's only one path back to owning the market again – fire Allen, get a competent general manager who hires a new coaching staff and start winning." - Rick Snider, 106.7 The Fan, September 30, 2019 [link]

For the moment, I will assume the fan revolt is real and has been taken seriously by Daniel Synder. Gruden got canned. Allen is still Washington's president and the defacto general manager today. Seemingly, the fan revolt's efforts are producing results in reverse..?

Shannon Sharp made the perfect analogy. That's like being married trying to find a reason to stay married. Why stay? And this coming from an owner of a NFL team? How embarrassing does that make Dallas look:facepalm:. But what Jerry meant to say was he won't be able to find find another puppet coach that'll let him be "the real coach" behind the scene. Who'll let him do the pressers before the coach does. Who'll let him motivate the team before games and so on. If this doesn't wake up the 2nd half of the sleeping fanbase to what's really going on. Nothing will...…..

It takes a long time to train a new puppet.
Having an Ivy League education may be the mental hurdle. Garrett (Princeton) and Bill O'Brien (Brown) both come from Ivy League schools. Both of their NFL teams have enjoyed similar degrees of regular season and postseason success/non-success.

I'm thinking of a comedian I once heard discuss people who insist on dating their ex's or former boyfriends/girlfriends. "Look, when the milk is sour, do you put it back in the refrigerator and hope it's good the next time you open it?"
