Having a second rnd pick as a healthy scratch for a couple of games that you basically vouched for is not a good look. As far as giving up on him? Nah...that would have required me to once have been high on him in the first place. IMO he was overdrafted

Falling in love with a player based on the prepped polished persona they put on during combine interviews is like falling in love with a chick on your first date. They should have done a proper background check to find out what he's really like during the dog days of a long football season.

The day I heard that he signed a contract with Marinelli I started having flashbacks to Randy Gregory and all the promises he was making after getting drafted. These guys are just saying whatever in order to get in the good graces of a team and get drafted.
I wish somebody would exoose the bs marenelli seems to do regarding dline guys. But the powers that be in dallas are tight lipped which i can respect but still.

Scapegoating 101 here.

Go back and read all of Marinelli's praise on Hill right after the draft selection.

Marinelli can't admit he was dead wrong on Eval and he has not coached him up. Must be someone else's fault.

Are they?

A lot of dirt has leaked about Hill and Taco. Maybe they are for the coaches but not the players.

You don't say something like that about a rookie unless you've completely thrown in the towel on him.

yeah...way to boost a rookies confidence. Don't think "tough love" is the answer here. If you go back and watch the tape...he's hustling to the football. He just needs to get stronger...better technique...which would come from better coaching.

Missing on Taco and Hill is probably the difference in being a serious contender this year. We will feel the true impact next season when we lose a lot of free agents.
Quinn and Bennett are considerable upgrades. If they leave next year and we release Crawford, there will be ample money to sign others.

Being realistic, wasn't expecting a superstar out the gate drafted in the 50s. But you do tend to expect some type of stat line, especially when that player is at a position of need as Hill was. If he was drafted 2 or 3 rnds later this isn't an issue. Course if you hadn't missed so bad on Taco and Gregory, you might get a pass. Now it's a trend

I guarantee you the leaders of the team chewed him out after embarrassing himself in front of Isiah Thomas. I wish I was a fly on the wall when he got caught snoring. I bet Garrett turned ruby red.

I bet Garrett was sleeping too....I can't imagine Isiah Thomas saying anything that would be earth shattering.

They knew. We all knew.

They just tried to justify it. They blamed a new coaching staff for his decrease in playing time.

I love scouting but realize I don't get to see everything nor do I know everything. This was one evaluation that I tried and tried to go back to see what I was missing on him. They just flat out blew this one. They wanted to seem clever and act as if they stole a 1st round talent in the late 2nd. I talked to coaches who said he was a headcase. I talked to scouts from two teams who said they had Day 3 grades on him. One of my former players did predraft workouts with him in Orlando and said he is the laziest, softest kid he's ever seen. If I have access to this info, you know the Cowboys do.

cowboys paid him $886,945 this season & over a million in 2020.

Can you imagine being paid that much money and not being happy to ride the pine?

In all seriousness, last night on display were grown men alpha dogs like Bennett, Quinn (grabbing Hernandez by the grill), and Lawrence. Hill just looks like a fat kid who falls asleep in after school detention

Wonderful!

Let’s hope Rod retires right after the season. We don’t need him mucking up another draft.

Jesus...

How the hell you allow this to happen just 2 years after Taco is beyond me.

Pardon my temporary optimism, but that might be exactly what he needs. Coaching clearly hasn't made significant headway with him. Maybe Bennett, Quinn, and Tank talking mess to him in practice in meetings will light a fire under him.

If I could ask anyone about Hill right now, I would ask Zack Martin and the Cowboys S & C coach. Martin seems like a blatantly honest person who won't sugarcoat or try to protect Hill's feelings. If I was in player personnel for the Cowboys, I would want to pick Martin's brain. Not to get him to "snitch" on a teammate but just to give me the insight to if Hill consistently competes on practice reps. The S & C coach knows right now if Hill is a grinder or not. There's a saying in football coaching: "You can't hide in the weight room"
